Qellaqan: Tiberius Gracchus: NakedReporta: seumasokelly: I think that if ESPN had broken the story, we'd have had a 3-hour special in primetime. Since it was SI, it's a non-event.Agreed. I'm just saying we could look at it like that. I think the fact that it was a 35-year-old vet who's essentially a free-agent second center made it easier for ESPN to say, "Meh." Not trying to negate the import of this, but I think we can agree that had it been a guy still under contract that was a starter or a 6th or 7th man, ESPN runs that story first, Tebow be damned. At least, I'd like to think ESPN still has a modicum of journalistic integrity. Could be wrong on that. There's an equally good chance this story doesn't make Pg 1 of the NYT, either, FWIW.35 y/o journeyman > TebowQFT!
seumasokelly: NakedReporta: On the flip side, we could look at it like this - a 12-year NBA journeyman coming out of the closet isn't that big of a deal. And really, doesn't that say something about how far we've progressed as a society? Now, if Tebow came out, I think the collective head of ESPN would asplode.I think that if ESPN had broken the story, we'd have had a 3-hour special in primetime. Since it was SI, it's a non-event.
