It's always a good sign when you're calling for a ban on something that doesn't exist yet.

Not sure if serious. It's usually the best time to act as there's not a whole industry, lobbying effort, or adversaries with similar capabilities that we feel the need to match.

By that time, we'll just have to send wave after wave of our own men at them.

"If war is reduced to weapons attacking without human beings in control, it is going to be civilians who are going to bear the brunt of warfare,"

Cause, Lord knows, human soldiers take great pains to ensure that they don't hurt civilians

But I do have to say, I do not look forward to any more jobs being lost to automation

"Jobs lost".

Fry: Damn right!
Bender: The fact is, Humans are completely harmless!
Blue Elder: We're well aware of that.

I have a degree in robotics, so I'm getting a kick....

I have developed a killer robot, looks like a T-rex, rocker launcher arms, shoots fire from the mouth, covered in machine guns, heavily armored, can launch grenades.  However, it's purpose is completely peaceful.  So don't worry.  Also, since it's peaceful, no preset kill limit.

Wow when I was 12 I bought this game. Installed it, and accidentally installed it again which corrupted my hdd lost all my families stuff. This game was so hard for me to understand at that age when I did get it installed after the first debacle I never got anywhere with it.

Im on the protected scrolls so no worries of the robot revolution.

Consider making your killer robot a company.  It gains person-hood and the right to kill as long as it is the most profitable solution.

/I'll believe companies are people when I see one get the death penalty.

You know what I hate about this post? I went to a two year tech school and one class was a dedicated AutoCad class.  I spent that semester actually using Autocad 2000 designing a killer robot.  I didn't write any code, but I designed the robot, both exterior as well as some of the smaller internal circuits and devices.

My kid is in fourth grade and used magic markers and tracing paper and drew the lasers to where they were only visible through infrared goggles. (To keep the enemy from back tracing the shots).

I went with machine guns because lasers guns like in sci-fi don't really exist, plus I really have to admire the fact that your fourth grader pointed out a flaw that no writer on Star Trek, Star Wars, or various other shows have realized.  Laser (or phaser) weapons as seen on those shows and movies would point out the shooter's location.  Plus, not showing the weapon's shot would save special effects money.

/but that's for a different discussion...

Are you saying qorkfiend or me who posts in a lot of flame wars? I didn't even take a stance on this, just commented that issues are usually easier to deal with before they become issues.

/I would be more interested in what an ethicist has to say about it than a cyberneticist or roboticist.
