Last season was borderline unwatchable in its over-the-top stupidity, and I'm giving it exactly one episode before it becomes only the second HBO series I've walked away from. The first being Luck.

I never miss Treme.

I should clarify, though, that I'm talking about their hour-long dramas. With few exceptions, I dislike most of their half-hour shows. Veep is somewhat growing on me, but I don't really care if I miss it or not.

No, no. The Tremere are from a completely different Vampire IP.

As for True Blood, I think this should be the last season, then they should end the series. I agree that it's getting a bit over-the-top.

I got sucked into Treme. The entire cast of characters is generally unlikable yet I still tuned in for the second season.

I haven't watched the show for a couple of seasons but I seem to remember all of sex scenes being blocked to where you didn't actually see anything.

the treme is great.  but, i live in new orleans, so it's really funny to see friends as extras, know people in that shot, know who the character is based on, know the restaurant/bar/band really well, etc.  that adds a dynamic that I'm not sure an outsider would recognize.

Yah, the wife and I are done with the show after last season too.  My biggest complaint is that they introduced some very fascinating characters, the Authority, especially the Christopher Meloni chacter, and then proceeded to kill every one of them throughout the season.  WTF?

My problem with True Blood, especially the last couple seasons, is that they give every single supporting character a subplot.  So the whole first third of the season is introducing plot after plot after plot, with only some of them tying into the master plot of the season.  I don't give a fark about the shapeshifter family.  And the Iraqi curse plot from last year could have been a good two or three episode B-plot arc instead of taking up as much screen time as it did.  True Blood needs to streamline and find some focus.

2013-04-29 01:38:37 PM
I was not a fan of last season...especially the end.  Billith...really?   IMHO, they've deviated too far from the books (getting away from the Sookie/Eric romance) not to mention they've written themselves into a corner where the most powerful vampire that has ever existed is now reincarnated in Bill.  This will likely be the last season.

Snapper Carr: Yet I would forgive all of that if only Deborah Ann Woll did nudity

Good point.  Seeing her naked would be worth putting up with how inane the storyline has become.

I agree to an extent. There are some secondary characters that I love too much, so I don't mind their sub-plots. But the show does bounce around a bit too much between them. The Iraqi fire demon sub plot was utterly ridiculous.

I think the secondary characters are one of the best parts of the show. I just think it's overkill to give every one of them a season long arc.

That being said, they need to kill Tara, again. And permanently.

It's a fun show to watch.   I have absurdly low expectations of it, which helps.

Now if we're talking about shows that really need to end, or are already several seasons past where they should have wrapped up, lets talk Californication.

I could not agree more.  All of the subplots would be fine if the season was longer. I'd much prefer the main arc and one, maybe two minor subplots.

THIS.

True Blood has devolved into a massive fanservice handy-J. Every character has to have something going on at all times, always, and often that stuff is just dumb. This last season got so bad it was unwatchable by the end. The season before that with the witches wasn't much better. Lafayette has always got to show up and be sassy, Tara has always got to show up and be biatchy, Hoyt has to show up and be a pathetic idiot, etc.... I used to like those characters, but they've just beat them in to the ground now.

Season 5 was so terribad I'm just not interested in season 6 whatsoever.

It was bad, but introducing a new supernatural creature could have been a main plot thing, and been interesting. Too bad they botched it like they did with some boring subplot out of 1 jillion other boring subplots.

The worst had to be the evil baby and ghost mom subplot from season 4. That business in and of itself almost made me quit the show.

They need to stick with the few main characters.  Bill, Eric, Sookie, Jason, Pam and Jessica...to a lesser extent, Sam, Tara, and Alcide.  Lesser stories to Andy, Terry and Arlene. The supporting characters should help tell the main characters stories...not have too many dedicated stories of their own.

For example, the telling more of the Pam/Eric backstory was one of the few interesting moments last season.  It isn't that I dislike the minor characters...it's just that they're better in limited doses.

That was my first thought too. There is no way they can keep a love triangle going when Bill is basically a vampire god. How do you undo that? Kind of makes me want to see the next season!

I've read a few of those books and I just don't see how the show could follow along with these next few.

Is sookie gonna date that Were-Tiger guy?  I can't really remember any of the other stuff, but it just seems it's gonna have to just make up a whole new story now.

I guess I didn't get that fair along in the books, but I never read anything about all the crazy politics and stuff anyway so I may be already really off to begin with.

I'll watch it, but I'm not super looking forward to it like GOT.

I'll watch, but my interest has been waning for the past 2-3 seasons.  I don't mind all of the characters having sub-plots.  What bothers me is that almost everybody is supernatural in some way...vampires (okay, that's what the show was supposed to be about), fairies, werewolves, shape-shifters, witches, mediums, werepanthers, fire demons, the goddess chick who had the whole town in a frenzy...it's just over the top.  I don't even find the main plot of vampires killing off all the humans to be very intriguing anymore, since it seems like there are far more powerful creatures running around.

Sookie's grandfather was on screen for a few minutes. He was played by Gary Cole, who sadly did not act like Reese Bobby OR Bill Lumbergh. I kind of hope he shows back up because I love Gary Cole, but the whole Fae apocrypha seems a little silly and at best could be an interesting endgame to the plot.

Last season was severely lacking in tits.  They'd better rectify that, because it distracts alot from the absurd plotlines and hammy acting.
