... it's not indie to realize that Michael Jackson was the King of Pop, because he was Michael farking Jackson, and that's who the farking King of Pop was.

Phoenix is French? Damn, I knew there was a reason I couldn't quite abide their music.

/Daft Punk does not count, they are from Earth, not France

Indie?  You missed a chance to throw "hipster" into the headline, subby.

Good.

JolobinSmokin: WTF is an indie dance band?

A group of musicians that play music with a particular rhythmic styling that you can move your body to that is not represented by a major label.

JolobinSmokin: WTF is an indie dance band?

It's a band who makes dance music and is signed on an independent label. Thus 'indie dance band'.

We will just have to agree to disagree. But really, I don't listen to that Yeasayer album much anymore...too poppy.

I was just posting for reference.

!!! has some of the best live shows I've ever been to. First one I saw them at 930 club in DC and ended up on stage for the final song with some 50-odd other people. Then I saw them at Black Cat (also in DC) where I got to sing on the mic with the lead singer and then he kissed my forehead. Later on he had a dance off with this hot chick who was way better than I expected her to be.  Saw them at a festival and they had the entire ground into a huge dance party. Hopefully going to see them when they come to Chicago. Guaranteed fun time.

They are playing with White Arrows in Portland June 3.  At Bunk Bar (teensy tiny venue).  $15 a ticket.  Should be fun.

Yeah, but your opinion is correct:  that song is dumb as shiat.  And the only thing dumber is that cutsie video.

He sold a lot of records, and had some great songs, but when it comes to 80s pop, Prince is most near and dear to my heart. There is something perfect and timeless about Purple Rain, while MJ's catalog just seems dated to my ears.

I dig that song, I just get annoyed by the fact that the song is in a TV commercial now (along with "Take a Walk". Taco Bell, seriously??). Seems like selling out doesn't carry the same stigma it used to.

He 'was' the coolest guy who ever lived.  The man defined it for a few years there.  Just like James Dean, Dean Martin, Sam Jackson, Barry White.

It's amusing to me that this title was submitted sincerely.  Or maybe in a double-blind twist of irony.  Is it Hipster-cool to faux-pretend not to know that Michael Jackson was the epitome of cool?

I saw Michael Jackson's "Bad" concert in L.A. when I was a small child. The man sitting next to us enjoyed my "dancing" so much I got to watch the actual performance of the song "Bad" on his shoulders. That man was Magic Johnson, but I had no idea, so I thanked "Mr. T".

I am told he found it hilarious.
