"Yellowcard - Ocean Avenue (this band is outstanding when they get a decent producer/time in the studio. One for the Kids was great, but man, it sounded like it was recorded in a shower stall.)"

Man I seen these guys open for Billy Talent in Toronto earlier this month... They were Freaking AWESOME!!! These guys could be big... real big I tell you!

I've been listening to "Rush of Blood to the head" by Coldplay, Matt Good, and "hail to the theif" in the beginning of the year.

New finger eleven has been solid.

I've even been listening to Meteora (I have no explaination - so don't ask why)

Best album of the year... In my opinion... (won't let me link)
If you can get past the first single then it's a solid record!

If you're lazy it's Billy Talent (self titled)

Over 300 posts and not a single mention of Britney. I hope this means she isn't even popular enough to ridicule anymore.

2003-12-30 06:32:19 PM
Outkast...definately Outkast nobody else did anything notable. Sorry its not an "Im cool because I know a band you dont" answer. These guys are really talented.
2003-12-30 06:42:52 PM
Radio is worthless. There is not one album I bought this year that would be played on the radio. I think I have officially reached the stage where my taste in music has become completely detached from the mainstream.
2003-12-30 06:51:01 PM
Primus' CD/DVD
2003-12-30 07:09:09 PM
Dream Theater - Train of Thought

The only relevent album of 2003.
2003-12-30 07:10:37 PM
Man there are a TON of crappy musicians mentioned in this thread.

Iron Maiden is to this thread what Lord of the Rigs is to Gigli.
2003-12-30 07:45:26 PM

Two albums that came out this year that I can't live without:
Marilyn Manson: The Golden Age of the Grotesque (I was so afraid this album would suck as bad as Holywood did, I was happy to find I was wrong and that this was a good album)
A Perfect Circle: Thirteenth Step (saw them live the 12th... farking INCREDIBLE show, the best I've ever been to)

Two albums that came out this year that are fairly decent:
Sarah McLachlan: Afterglow (Meh. Not as good as Mirrorball)
Radiohead: Hail to the Thief (we saw them live at Red Rocks, it was an incredible show and they played nothing off of amnesiac, which is by far their worst album)

Two albums that came out this year that I was severely disappointed in:
Dido: Life for Rent (*zzzzzz* Eh, sorry, i fell asleep just thinking about this album)
Underworld: The Soundtrack (One good song by Damning Well, one good cover of an APC song, and most of the rest was junk. Bah.)

Music isn't about being more indie than thou. If the music sucks, it sucks, regardless of how many listeners it has. Being indie doesn't make a band any better or worse. And being mainstream doesn't make a good song sound bad.

Fountains of Wayne is this year's most overrated band. If anyone would bother to listen to listen to their two previous albums, they would find that the current one is just a rehash of a rehash. It just happens to have a dirty little MILF song on it that all the boys seem to like. Best new band of the year my arse. Was I the only person who heard Radiation Vibe on the radio? Sheesh.
2003-12-30 10:43:21 PM
Not too many albums I've listened to this year, but here's the ones I think have been best, in no particular order:

Evanescence - Fallen (yeah, yeah, call me a mainstream whore)
2 Skinnee J's - Sexy Karate
Sum 41 - Does This Look Infected?
The White Stripes - Elephant
AFI - Sing The Sorrow

That's all that come to mind, and I'm not even sure if all of those came out this year.
2003-12-30 10:52:21 PM
desperately keeping the thread going, not like you care for my opinion or nuthin:

coldplay - way overrated, but listenable. for sleep purposes.

sarah mclachlan - disappointing, and not only because it was my first experience with a cd that wouldn't play on my computer.

johnny cash - Man comes around.
warren zevon - not yet purchased, but very haunting.
dolly parton's greatest hits -nostalgia
dido just ok, not great
elliot smith
r kelly'shiats - ignition gets under the skin...
ms dynamite - solid yet could be better.

just got jay-z and alicia keys, so we'll see....
2003-12-30 11:16:52 PM

Everybody know that music hit its peak in 1973. It's been all downhill since then!
2003-12-30 11:40:33 PM
Hm... These are the ones that didn't leave my CD player until I knew every word on the album.
Outkast - Speakerboxxx/The Love Below - Very good album.
The Ataris - So Long, Astoria - Not as good as previous albums (like End is Forever) and they kinda sold out, but I will stay loyal to them.
Linkin Park - Meteora - Guilty pleasure.
Jack Johnson - On and On - Very good. Saw him in concert too.
Pirates of the Caribbean Soundtrack - Awesome instrumentals in this. And every time I heard it I thought about Johnny Depp.

Honorable Mention
Down With Love Sountrack
Michael Buble

These probably would've made the list had I have gotten them.
AFI - Sing the Sorrow - I'm told not as good as previous, but they're still cool. And when I went to the concert Davey Havoc (sp?) talked about me.
Johnny Cash
Beatles - Let it be... naked
Inflatable Restraints (if they had released a record lol)
2003-12-30 11:49:59 PM

VEGGIEGUY: In fact, I have heard of over half of the bands on your Boobies. 14 of them even. So, you're wrong. Your elitest "I know bands you don't" is disproved.

Not elitist, I just didn't know how mainstream the tastes ran here at Fark. I was testing the waters.

These were the only CDs I recall buying this year, so they must be among the 10 best:

"My Baby Don't Tolerate"--Lyle Lovett
"The Wind"--The late great Warren Zevon
"Come Feel Me Tremble"--Paul Westerberg
"Dead Man Shake"--Grandpaboy

Old fart choices, but way too far down the list for anyone to notice anyway.
2003-12-31 01:39:30 AM
