Probably not too much of a bump, this is a pretty small scale operation, all things considered .. I think. I could be wrong, though.

DoctorCal: So, if the project sets off a massive quake in Bend- say greater than 8.5 or so, there might be millions of dollars of improvement?

Dollars inimprovements

It did over a million dollars in improvements in my area.. Tens of thousands of improvements reported

a few hundred million in improvements.

Bzzt, sorry, we were looking for "hundreds of dollars inimprovements."

Tip of the clicheberg. "HOTY!!!" in 5...4...3...

Another industrial accident. Nothing a little more de-regulation and less Obama can't fix.... right?

So do these things (West, Texas and the gas barges along with this) happen all the time and they're just being reported because people are sensitive to what happened in Boston, or is this April a particularly explody month?

The two that you listed usually don't happen that often.

But refinery fires/explosions happen more often than we think.

When you drive by south on l-75, a huge bridge takes you over Refineryville. It used to have a tanker painted as a baseball, but now it looks like this:

No no. You can never blame governmental oversite - no matter how much of it or how overbearing and suffocating it is. You must always blame that non-existent whipping boy boogyman, "free enterprise."

Otherwise you make big-government liberals cry and hold their breath.

You're a bad person and should feel bad.

Alright...tell us how overbearing and suffocating government oversight caused this explosion?

I'll wait...

A spokesman for Marathon Petroleum also told reporters that no injuries resulted from the incident.

Hmm, I'll go long on my bet; It was caused by an insider who found tar sands just weren't profitable enough and blew it up for the insurance money to cover rather immediate "hookers and blow" debts.

I apologize, I was making the point that oil infrastructure related incidents seem to be rising under this administration.  Starting from the gulf of mexico to the pipeline issues across the midwest, and now refinery problems.

Now before you take me up on this argument, please note I could give one greasy shiat about the whole thing.  I was mocking stiletto for making this a political discussion.  I already expended more energy than this line of talk is worth.

Haven't a clue. The causes are lost in the details (which I don't have access to).  All I know for a fact is that we do not have anything resembling "free enterprise" in this country. Do you claim that we do? Seriously?

Something that does not exist cannot logically be blamed for an event.

Oh, right: logic is the hobgoblin of little minds....

FTFA: Each day, the Marathon Detroit Refinery processes more than 100,000 barrels of heavy crude oil from Canadian tar sands. In June 2010, the Free Press reported that the refinery is located in Michigan's most heavily polluted zip code.

Well... at least the folks at Marathon located their refinery in the right place.

Do they zone protective layers of children and senior citizens around refineries like in Texas?
