Well at least they'll have hash browns to go with those pancakes.

Those people are crazy. I know they want to rescue as many as they can from that collapsed building and I realize it's Bangledesh, but those people have no sense of safety precautions. They're not wearing the even basic protective clothing and for a collapsed building (from the first images I saw) there were too many people on that building. What if all their weight caused an additional collapse?

2013-04-28 05:23:28 PM
CNN is now reporting that a second alien craft has shot a laser at the building.....

2013-04-28 05:26:02 PM
At least they won't have to pay to be cremated?

But truly, sad times =\

This is a nation where demanding worker return to a crumbling building is considered normal and refusing to do so is insubordination and grounds for firing.

What a farking nightmare.

2013-04-28 05:28:35 PM
A bank and some shops on the first floor closed Wednesday after police ordered an evacuation, but managers of the garment factories on the upper floor told workers to continue their shifts.

Well then....

Also, the building used babies for bricks and puppies for mortar.

They died free of job-killing government building codes and regulations.

Why do you hate freedom?

If we wait another week or so, I'm sure a sinkhole will open up and just swallow it all. Then monsoon season will fill the hole. Then HEY! Free public pool!

2013-04-28 05:33:48 PM
THANKS OBAMA.

2013-04-28 05:34:53 PM
It could be a Union Carbide building.

2013-04-28 05:36:32 PM
What's next, a sinkhole opens up?

2013-04-28 05:38:28 PM
I wonder how much of the machinery can be recovered and reactivated.

Killing jobs is WAY worse than killing people.

The fire would have been limited by the extensive use of asbestos in the construction, except the "toilets" were "flushed" with dimethyl ether.

But the next building will be the strongest in the land, my lad.

2013-04-28 05:43:11 PM
Do they have any big construction cranes over there?  Why not cut each of the reinforced floors into sections the crane can handle, sling them and lift them out?  Then clear the debris underneath, recover any bodies or survivors, and repeat at the next floor?

It looks like they're tunneling through everything like ants, putting themselves at risk by removing debris that's still holding up floors, instead of just unloading the pile from the top down.

It collapsed... killing hundreds.

Saves money on the whole "searching for survivors" bit.

They need to lift that debris off from the top down, not dig into it.

Biggest slab I'm seeing is what, 15' x 15'?  Say it's half a foot thick, that's 113 cubic feet of concrete.

Say a cubic foot weighs 150 lbs.  113 * 150 = 16,950 lbs.

A fifty ton crane should be able to get at least the outside stuff safely, those picks would be nearly straight up.  Then maybe move in closer and get more.

WTF?

http://libcom.org/news/house-cards-savar-building-collapse-26042013

Rana gained planning permission in 2008 for a five storey structure which was duly built. The construction was not supervised by architects or engineers to assess its quality. 60% of the building was constructed on the site of the acquired pond which had been filled in, compromising the stability of the structure from the start.

By 2010 Rana's political career had progressed and he was now a local convenor for the Juba League, the youth wing of the ruling Awami League. With his increased political clout he then felt free to add three more floors to the Plaza - but with no planning permission or supporting walls. Workers reported that the building would sometimes shudder and jolt when generators ran. Yet at the time of the collapse the greedy Rana was even having a ninth floor added to this house of cards.
