mat catastrophe: Harbinger of the Doomed Rat: mat catastrophe: Dark Dungeons May Be The Reefer Madness For A New Generation

Whoever wrote that headline is a complete farking idiot. "A New Generation"? That tract is at least 30 years old. fark. It barely covers *my* generation, much less the dribbling young shiats who probably put this on kickstarter in the first place.

Except that the movie would be made now, meaning the movie would in fact be for a current generation.

/Linear time, how does it farking work?

Humbug. Unless they make it about Twilight, no one's going to care. Hell, even thirty years ago the audience for something like this would be marginal. It's just another waste of time, money, and brains.

Wonder if Jackie boy has made a tract about Twilight being satanic. I think I'd actually agree with him on that.

It's funny... When I got this comic as a kid in the early 1980s, they had cassettes on the cover.
I guess they felt the need to update the message to be "hip" and appeal to the young folks.

The scene is a record producer's party...

Yes, kids. Everything BUT the cross is evil.

Yes, Stonehenge is evil, too.

I KNEW IT! The Beatles are secretly druids turning kids to Satan!!!

"How did they find out what we've been doing?" is just hilarious.
Incidentally, I used to take a witch language class, but I dropped it to take up goblin-speak.

And you thought McCartney and Lennon did all their own work.

SO DON'T BE FOOLED!!!!

Oh, so now we look like Nazis.  GOOD JOB, GOD. THANKS A LOT!

Thanks for posting these. Brings back some bad memories from a very repressed household, but it's both funny yet stupefying to read now.

Yes, there are indeed people that read this stuff without any sense of irony or critical thought.

How was he?

I always LOVED the ones with the little girl whose Grandpa had an eye patch and a hook for a hand. WTF is up with that?

Tatsuma: I'm sorry but it already happened, and it's called the Veronica Mars movie kickstarter.

Unless we get a Firefly series out of kickstarter, or an isometric Fallout from it, ain't gonna be topped.

You are wrong

ZeroCorpse: Oh, you want screwed up? The Chick tracts are nothing compared to The Crusaders comic books.

I was given a full collection of them as a kid, and they messed with my head something fierce.

What sick cult did you guys belong to?

I remember one house when I was a kid handing out these tracts at Halloween. The parents (of Catholic, mainstream Protestant, even Evangelical faiths, to say nothing of the Hindu families) were so enraged, that family was actively banned from all neighborhood events immediately and we were told not to play with their children. They moved not long after.

My grandfather was a sort of free-form Shaker/Quaker. Most of my aunts were fundamentalists or evangelicals. I was given a stack of these comics by one of my aunts who also taught in a Christian school. This was their way of reaching out to children. I guess the idea is to SCARE THE CRAP OUT OF THEM and make them run screaming to Jesus for protection.

That's what you get with the Hellfire & Brimstone branch of Christianity. They don't worship Jesus out of love, but out of pants-pissing fear of Satan and Hell.

I spent a bored afternoon reading them all, it's simply epic.

They are so messed up even my hardcore Christian parents think he's insane.

Growing in in north Texas, there was no shortage of fundie propaganda being thrown around to scare Christians and I wonder if these people realized that these tactics often had the opposite effect. During my teenage years, my friends and I would look through the more sensational "rock music is a tool of Satan" books or listen to Bob Larson to discover more music. In searching underground music scenes to find bands that scared their audience, these authors were giving exposure to bands whose music wouldn't get played on the radio or MTV. Of course, the lazier authors were sometimes more amusing and ridiculous, like Jeff Godwin claiming that Amy Grant was a closet Satanist.

Actually Dallas' story is sad, he had severe mental health issues and took his life. His Mother blamed D&D for his suicide and launched a completely misinformed campaign against D&D, which the fundamentalist Christians took to like a duck to water.
