(Austin Statesman)   Austin has celebrated Eeyore's birthday every year for 50 years. Yes, that Eeyore, and to make it even better it looks and sounds more similar to Woodstock than a birthday for a cartoon donkey   (statesman.com) divider line 54

For those of you who have never been to Austin, it's a wonderfully eccentric city. But be forewarned, as it is in Texas, traffic bites.

Yeah, all these out-of-towners are moving here and really ruining it.  It's a totally different city than it was 5 years ago when I moved down from Virginia.

I like Austin, but I still don't get paddle-boarding.  Or why it's so big there.   Plus I've got Buffett tickets in Austin on Thursday

/even better, tubing season starts about now, which means hot coeds in bikinis (or less) floating down the rivers.

If I was 25 instead of 36 I'd live there, with my company I can live in San Antonio or Austin (though SA is our headquarters) but as it is, most of my Austin friends live 30 minutes from downtown anyway, so I'll take the shorter commute, better traffic, cheaper housing but be close enough to drive up on a whim.   And less hipsters.   Don't get me wrong, I enjoy Austin, just about once a month or two.

I left ATX about five years ago, or four, I forget. Right after that ZOMBIES AHEAD sign thing happened, March 2009? That was directly opposite Pease Park where this Eeyore thing is, which is causing me to extrapolate wildly in favor of there obviously being zombie donkeys everywhere tonight, so I'll close the window and sleep with one eye open.

Eeyore's is fun, but since I'm not a hippie I headed over to Buda's weiner dog races, which is basically about what you'd expect when you give a bunch of rednecks small funny lookin' dogs. Fun too though.

Definitely not bringing my kid to that.  We'll play in river, thanks.

Then only good thing Austin has going for it right now is that The Dillinger Escape Plan and The Melvins are playing next month.

Also, that "Scary HEB" off Oltorf is most definitely a hot spot for hot mom's.  Not scary at all

You are definitely right about that HEB.  I go to the Oltorf/Congress one.  Seriously during the week it's eye candy, free sushi samples, and the HEB brand diapers are very good and cheaper than the brand name.  I think there is another HEB on the eastside somewhere called "HEB of Broken Dreams".  There might be a facebook page for it.

I live in "POVERTY" apparantly.

30 years ago it was a town, or small city.  This is not where I grew up now, I dont recognize it, I sure as hell do not like it.  If not for our house keeping us here we would be long gone.  But all the invading hipsters are happy, so fark us right?

You've obviously never visited Minnesota.  The skeeters down here are nothing compared to the ones in the midwest.

You are correct about the beer selection at the Far West HEB.  But there are a couple of convenience stores that have an incredible selection of bombers.

Yup, pretty much.  I enjoyed living there between about 18 and 25.  After that, it started to bug me.  The traffic, the hullabaloo, the crowds, the hipsters, all of the new development et cetera et cetera.  Three or four years ago, I never would have imagined moving to a nice property in Leander would make me so happy.  I enjoy living close enough to go in to Austin when it suits me, but I sure as hell am glad I don't live there anymore.

That's the scary one?  I always preferred that one immensely to the one that was actually nearer to me.  The Riverside HEB.  That one was a whole lot of NOPE!  Maybe it's changed since I lived on east Oltorf 4-5 years ago, I dunno.  But that was definitely the less scary one in that general area.

HEB on Palmer, its like going to disney world on the busiest day.  Parking is insane, everything is farking packed (like AUSTIN!).  Only place worse to shop is Fiesta.  I worked at fiesta, I dealt with the crime at fiesta.  I forbid my family from going anyfarkingwhere near fiesta ever.  And I live next to Rundberg so you can imagine how low my bar is set.

Parmer & I35. That one is closet to where I live now. It is a non-stop nightmare. It is funny to watch all the bloated land manatees blocking the parking lot lanes while wating for someone to leave a parking spot so they won't have to walk 40 extra feet.

When I lived near Braker & Lamar I would sometimes go to the HEB at Rundberg just to walk around and enjoy the freak show in that place.

The Rundberg HEB has improved alot, which is not saying much but it is better.  But we typically travel across town to either west braker HEB or Far West simply because we dont want to deal with the madhouse that is Palrmer or Rundberg.  I would go to Central Market more often but I hate paying 3X markup for better quality and less stress.  CM does a good job at keeping the riffraff (me) out.  I dont think I can even afford to park my car at whole foods for that matter.

Palmer/parmer.  We used to refer to Robert Mueller airport as Robert Miller.  farked up pronunciation is a old Austin tradition.  It died.
