That's not ironic; it's coincidental.

The Packers record holder for passing yards in a game can't get a starting job anywhere else. It brings me slight pleasure.

Why'd they let dhb go?

Anyways, best of luck to Flynn. He'll probably get the job this time...maybe

When did he ever have a starting spot?

2013-04-28 11:20:54 AM
Whatever.  I'm sure the probability of Tyler Wilson being as good as Russell Wilson is huge, amirite?

/have fun with Flynn starting

remarkable that he got the seattle job basically off of that what, 1-2 game relief appearance he had as a Packer in 2011.  he got really hot all of the sudden, with 4-5 TDs in a game or two and that  got him that massive Seattle contract.

Flynn is a genius.  Think how much he gets paid to hold a clipboard and not get his uniform dirty.

Even if Tyler Wilson is the QB of the future, the Raiders are better off sending Matt Flynn out there to be flattened into the turf.  Two decent O-linemen, two talented but injuryprone receivers, an all-pro always injured RB, and a good receiving FB do not make an offense work.

/4-12 is high hopes for this team.

(1) There was (and is) nothing "massive" about the contract.  Three yeas and just over $3 million guaranteed per season, which is the kind of deal plenty of middling free agents at various positions easily make.  People keep wanting to put it in the same category as Matt Cassell and Kevin Kolb.  It simply is not near that magnitude.  This is why Oakland was willing to take it on and trade something of (modest) value in the process.

(2)  Sure it was a limited sample, but that small sample produced better games than Aaron Rodgers has ever had in his career.  So that's pretty big-time.  And of course there's scouting outside of just a couple of regular season appearances; he had been extremely productive in the preseason as well, and had been receiving great reviews from Green Bay camp observers.

thanks, my bad.  i thought he signed a huge deal.  maybe i was thinking of that "Charlie Weathersby" or "Whitehurst" or whatever kid out of san diego a few years ago, that did nothing to get paid.

Only $10m guaranteed, about $3.3m per season.  And since he's spent a year on the bench, presumably he's somewhere between those numbers (I don't know what the incentives are but I would guess he gets something for making the roster and something more for accumulating various stats).

Yeah there's no chance of that.

/love that the Raiders signed Kyle Padron, who went to EWU
//hey, any time you can sign a guy who got beat out by a true freshman for his FCS job after losing his job at SMU despite having the best three WRs in the division...

Please, they have 6-10 written all over them.

//Which probably screws them out of Clowney or Bridgewater/Manziel.

LSU isn't really a QB factory.  Flynn had good games with a great team.  So did Cassel.

Not sure I see the relevance.  Baylor isn't really a QB factory, yet Robert Griffin III looks pretty good.  Thinking of the top QBs in the league today, they went to Tennessee, Michigan, Purdue... are those QB factories?  What is a QB factory nowadays?  Shouldn't we judge players on their own merits?

bhcompy: Flynn had good games with a great team.

Not just good games, but better games than Aaron Rodgers has had in his entire career with the same team.  To be fair, not against very good passing defenses, but it's not like Rodgers never played against weak opponents either.

No, just no.

Tyler is not Russell. And Tyler's not bad.

I love NFL, but honestly, I don't have an emotional stake in any team.  If Tyler Wilson gets a chance to start, I guess that gives me an arbitrary reason to root for the Raiders.  As a loyal Arkansas alum though, I'm a bit bummed to see another great player go to that black hole of a team, but maybe getting a decent QB in there can give McFadden a chance to stay healthy for a while.
