The cliff cities in Yemen remind me of my trip to the Isle of Capri. Got there at sunset and by the time we got to our hotel we had no idea how high we were nor how close to the edge we were. We stayed up drinking at the bar on it's patio, sitting on its wide balcony railing for a few hours before we turned in. Upon waking we had a spectacular view of the Med... from the top of a 500' or more cliff.

Yeah, no fencing. If any of us had drunkenly leaned back too far it was AAAaaahhh  SPLAT!

This is interesting information that I wish I was receiving anywhere else but a Cracked article.

There's something similar to #6 in Cairo: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/City_of_the_Dead_%28Cairo%29

Basically, rich families buy land and build mausoleums, and the poor pay a pittance for rent to live in them before they are filled and bricked up.

That was poorly written even for Cracked.

#8 should probably be on the lookout for hobgoblin hoards.

/Just sayin'

Although it only looks strange when you drive up on it unexpectedly in Georgia.  Not the country

"Coober Pedy is one of the least accessible towns in Australia."

Well yes, if by "least accessible" you mean "have to drive a little over 5 hours from the relatively major town of Port Augusta (or under 9 from Adelaide for fark's sake) on entirely tarmac roads and driver through by every single person driving through the centre of Australia from North (Darwin) to south (Adelaide, Melbourne) and anyone going to Alice Springs or Uluru from the South".

Idiots.

/lost 5th gear and reverse at Uluru and had to drive back to Alice Springs to have a "new" gearbox fitted in my 20 year old Mitsubishi L300 before we could then backtrack down to Coober Pedy for some light fossicking

Coober Pedy was featured in an issue of National Geographic World magazine that I had as a kid.  Thought it was neat then, still do.
