Now, is it an actual "glow in the dark" effect, or is it "glows under UV light"?

'cuz UV light is still *light*.

You could always RTFA and see that it's phosphorescent.

/Or wait for a commenter to tell you, I guess.

When will they create a way to make mr winky glow in the dark?  Think how incredibly cool that would be. Or perhaps to make chicks holes glow in the dark.  Easy to find.

Nah, the Welsh are more renowned for sheep-worrying of the two-legged kind.

Out of interest, anyone know if wolves and the like can "see" glow-in-the-dark light wave thingies more easily?  If they can, isn't this the equivalent of the goats in Jurassic Park?

It was invented years ago. Here's a 2002 article, and here's a more recent video example.

A short story set in the Androids Dream universe, Judge Sn Goes Golfing. It's damn good and you can get it in the Kindle store at Amazon.

Proof of concept. It's easy to verify your gene insertion technique works if the end result glows.

Except that the headline was wrong and the sheep are fluorescent, not phosphorescent, so no the sheep don't glow in the dark, they only glow under UV light.

"The scientists used a gene from a jellyfish, allowing them to produce a green fluorescent protein "

FTA: Montevideo, Uruguay - Scientists in Uruguay have announced the world's first genetically-modified phosphorescent sheep.

Nine sheep were born in October of 2012 at Uruguay's Institute of Animal Reproduction, an experiment conducted in conjunction with the Institut Pasteur.

The scientists used a gene from a jellyfish, allowing them to produce a green fluorescent protein.

Well, the article says they're both phosphorescent AND fluorescent. So take your pick, I guess?

I thought we cured most cancer last year (based on articles in the geek tab).  Aren't we just waiting on a bit more testing/development and FDA approval?
