C'mon Wings, let's get this done today!

Britney Spear's Speculum: SJ/Kings is the last game in the west, if St. Louis loses, expect their game to go into OT

I hadn't realized there was a 3-team battle for the 4th spot today too. I wish I could find a place nearby with all games on tonight.

This is so weird to say, but go Devils and Flyers! I feel really dirty for saying that, but I do *not* want the 8-seed. The Pens are the one team in the East that I can't see the Isles beating in a 7-game series under any circumstances. Even against Boston I think we have somewhat of a chance.

/can't watch today though

HAD the wild actually won last night, it still would've been possible for SJ or LA to play the ducks.

2013-04-27 12:45:14 PM
Thanks have to go out to the Wild for there performance (or lack thereof...) last night.  Had they not absolutely shiat the bed like they did today would have been much less interesting.

I think I'm just going to wait until tomorrow & it's all over instead of trying to figure out who gets in if A wins outright but not in OT.   Or if B loses in OT, that extra point will give them the tiebreaker if C wins in OT....  It will be much easier to just sit around drinking beer & enjoying the games today/tonight.  My Ducks are already in & it's going to be a good series no matter who they play.

Bring on the playoffs, it's time for the real hockey season....

/however I can't grow a playoff beard this year
//stopped shaving back in Movember & never started back up...

Getting ready to head to Columbus to watch my Blue Jackets beat the Predators. With that win and a loss for either Detroit or Minnesota we're in the playoffs after placing LAST in the league last season!  If they both lose, then we get the seventh seed, and don't have to face the Blackhawks in round 1!!!

Go Jackets!

The playoff scenarios are below. I warn you all now... it's farking ugly.

Eastern Conference

The following teams are locked into their positions:

1- Pittsburgh
3- Washington
5- Toronto

Northeast Division Title and #2 seed

Boston- 61 pts, 25 ROWs, 2 games remaining: @WSH, vs OTT
Montreal- 61 pts, 25 ROWs, 1 game remaining: @TOR

Scenarios:

If Montreal wins in regulation or OT @TOR Saturday night:
Boston wins the division by going no worse than 1-0-1
Montreal wins if BOS goes 1-1-0 or worse (Montreal owns the 2nd tiebreaker of head-to-head results, BOS win coming in a SO would give ROW tiebreak to MTL)

If MTL wins in a shootout:
Boston wins the division by going 1-1-0 with the win coming in regulation or OT (ROW tiebreaker win) or better
Montreal wins if BOS goes 0-0-2 or worse

If MTL loses in OT or SO
BOS wins by going 1-1-0 or 0-0-2 or better
MTL wins if BOS goes 0-1-1 (head-to-head tiebreak) or worse

If MTL loses in regulation
BOS requires minimum 1 OT game to win division (regardless of result)
MTL wins only if BOS goes 0-2-0

Loser in each scenario becomes #4 seed

Seeds 6, 7 and 8

Standings as of Friday night

6) NY Islanders: 55 pts, 20 ROWs, 0 games remaining
7) Ottawa: 54 pts, 20 ROWs, 2 games remaining: vs PHI, @BOS (ahead on games played aka points percentage)
8) NY Rangers: 54 pts, 21 ROWs, 1 game remaining: vs NJ (1st game of the day)

Mini table for the scenarios:

If NYR wins in regulation or OT:
OTT goes 1-0-1 or better: #6 seed OTT, #7 NYR, #8 NYI
OTT goes 1-1-0, 0-0-2 or 0-1-1: #6 NYR, #7 OTT, #8 NYI (OTT 0-1-1 would lead to head-to-head tiebreak with NYI which OTT wins)
OTT goes 0-2-0: #6 NYR, #7 NYI, #8 OTT

NYR wins in a shootout:
OTT requires minimum 1 ROW for: #6 OTT, #7 NYR, #8 NYI (OTT wins head-to-head w/NYR)
OTT 1 SOW+1 reg. loss or 2 OT losses or 0-1-1: #6 NYR, #7 OTT, #8 NYI (NYR wins ROW tiebreak)
OTT 0-2-0: #6 NYR, #7 NYI, #8 OTT

NYR loses in OT/SO:
OTT 1-1-0 or 0-0-2 or better: #6 OTT, #7 NYR, #8 NYI (NYR wins ROW tiebreak over NYI)
OTT 0-1-1: #6 NYR, #7 OTT, #8 NYI (NYR wins ROW tiebreak over OTT and NYI, OTT wins head-to-head tiebreak over NYI)
OTT 0-2-0: #6 NYR, #7 NYI, #8 OTT

NYR loses in regulation:
OTT requires minimum 1 pt for: #6 OTT, #7 NYI, #8 NYR
OTT 0-2-0: #6 NYI, #7 NYR, #8 OTT (NYR wins ROW tiebreak)

Western Conference coming up and that's not any prettier.

Western Conference now and I think I cleaned it up a bit from my 1st draft. (I blame the extra game for OTT and BOS for making the East look like shiat)

The following teams are locked into their positions:

1- Chicago (President's Trophy winner)
2- Anaheim
3- Vancouver

Seeds 4, 5 and 6

Standings as of Friday night:

4- St Louis: 58 pts, 23 ROWs
5- Los Angeles: 57 pts, 24 ROWs
6- San Jose: 57 pts, 17 ROWs

Games:
Chicago @ St Louis (8pm EDT)
SJ @ LA (10:30pm EDT)

A table for this:

STL win, LA win: #4 STL, #5 LA, #6 SJ
STL win, SJ win: #4 STL, #5 SJ, #6 LA
STL OTL, LA win: #4 LA, #5 STL, #6 SJ
STL OTL, SJ win: #4 STL, #5 SJ, #6 LA
STL loss, LA win:  #4 LA, #5 STL, #6 SJ
STL loss, SJ reg. win: #4 SJ, #5 STL, #6 LA
STL loss, ST OT/SO win: #4 SJ, #5 LA, #6 STL

The last two playoff spots:

7- Detroit: 54 pts, 21 ROWs, @DAL
8- Minnesota: 53 pts, 21 ROWs, @COL
9- Columbus: 53 pts, 18 ROWs, vs NSH

Scenarios:

For Columbus to get #7 seed and Detroit to finish #8:
CBJ win, DET & MIN lose in regulation

For #7 CBJ, #8 MIN
CBJ win, MIN OT loss, DET regulation loss

#7 DET, #8 CBJ
CBJ & DET win, MIN loses or
CBJ win, DET OTL, MIN loses or
CBJ OTL, MIN loses in regulation (DET result does not matter)

#7 DET, #8 MIN
All 3 teams have the same result or
CBJ OTL, MIN OTL, DET win or
CBJ regulation loss, DET wins, MIN OTL or win or
CBJ reg. loss, DET and MIN OTL

#7 MIN, #8 CBJ
CBJ and MIN win, DET lose in regulation

#7 MIN, #8 DET
CBJ and MIN win, DET OTL or
CBJ loss, DET loses, MIN OTL or win

All told, there are 27 total possible outcomes (I just summarized them above). Detroit is out in only 2 scenarios (both requiring a DET regulation loss). Minnesota is out in 8 scenarios. Columbus has the smallest chance of making it (10 out of 27 possibilities).

2013-04-27 03:07:08 PM
The Western conference is going to be quite the show, no matter who gets in. Pretty much any of the 8 teams could go all the way (Columbus would be the biggest surprise). The East really looks like Pittsburgh and then everyone else, but the only team I'd definitively say can't make it is the Sens.

/Go Oilers. People are going to be grumpy when they get the 1st overall again.

2013-04-27 03:08:48 PM
Here's hoping for a Columbus win and a Detroit loss in regulation, as well as Minnesota beating Colorado, which would also put the Avs in a better position for a higher draft pick.

/Seth Jones was destined to play for the Avalanche

All right, Devils, let's finish the season strong.

....awww, balls.

I try not to be a dick about being a Leafs fan (what have we had to be proud of in ages, anyway?), but I know that for every one of me, there's ten  manitobathunder's.

/Ooh, can we fill in the blank at #5 with Kerry Fraser?
//You also forgot all the glorious TV break NSFW posts

Well Hairspray(spit) retired so....
But I'll add the NSFW posts

I've always had that categorized as a Bruins image, but if you're cool with it no prob.

It's the one I always post before Bruins playoff games...but it doesn't matter.

We're all a family here, as dysfunctional as we may be.

Nothing in there about Pierre McGuire slobbering all over Crosby's nob (assuming he actually plays)?

I'm rooting for Columbus to get in just as proof that there are too many teams in the NHL playoffs.  Seriously, COLUMBUS?

The 48 game schedule allows for some lucky team to sneak in. Using the alternate systems that I've been working on all season, CBJ hovers between 9th and 10th in all of them as of now.

I'd argue that the more lucky team is San Jose. They've had 12 shootouts this year and won 8. Conversely, they've had 3 games decided in OT and lost them all. As of now, they have the 5th fewest ROWs in the West and yet, they could be a 4 seed. That's not right.

The Blues are utterly and thoroughly boring and they play an appallingly offensive brand of hockey.

I will not watch them in the Playoffs no matter who they play (yes, even if it's Vancouver). I have much better things to do with my time than watch soccer on ice. Why bother when I can just check the 1-0/2-1 (all goals off goofy deflections of course) coin flip box score the next day and not miss any hi-lights.
