(YouTube)   A Canadian cult, a Canadian drunk, and a Canadian teenager factor in to The Final Sacrifice, one of MST3K's best episodes. Mike, Servo, and Crow give us a solid episode. "Rowsdower, could you please put out my head?"   (youtube.com) divider line 39

I'll be honest, I know everyone LOVES TFS and it's probably in a lot of fans' Top 5 episodes, but I don't quite get it. Yes, it's from Canada and it's low budget and has memorable characters and quotes, but the pacing is terribly slow and what little story there is is difficult to follow.

The riffs are the only thing keeping this stinker afloat. They did top notch work with this episode but I agree that the film itself is so ponderously slow and dull that I have a hard time watching this episode despite the amazing riffs.

People usually rate MST3K episodes based on the quality of the riffing, host segments, etc. The whole point of the show is that the movies are terrible.

I'm not a crazy MST3Ker, but I enjoy them, and frequently avail myself of the Saturday posting. One thing I've noticed of late: Just about every week is "one of the best episodes!" I know for a fact that not every single episode was "one of the best ever!" And while I've been around long enough to have seen episodes repeated, we're certainly not getting the same 10 or 20 over and over. Logically, then, every week can't possibly be "one of the best." I understand that there's a bit of salesmanship involved, and no one would click on a link that said "overall, this episode was pretty mediocre." But could we find descriptions other than "best?"

Yeah, but you're still having to watch the movie. I love MST3K, but some episodes are more painful than others. TFS is hard to get through. Love the Canada song though.

You think THAT'S hard to get through?  You haven't watched Hamlet, Manos:The Hands of Fate, Monster-A-Go-Go, or The Incredibly Strange Creatures Who Stopped Living and Became Mixed-Up Zombies, have you?  The Final Sacrifice breezes by compared to those films.

Having watched the recent re-riffing of that movie, I was amazed to learn that the movie I was familiar with was actually EDITED FOR TIME.

Well, gosh darn it, Subby.  I was about to watch the Sunday morning political talk shows on TV, out of some lingering sense of civic duty and obligation, but now I'll have to watch this shiat, instead.  Gee, thanks.

The thing that makes this episode a favorite for me is that when I was a kid we watched as a family on Saturday nights, and my mom was absolutely CONVINCED that the kid was "the kid that played Doogie Howser." Nothing we could say could convince her otherwise.
