Dude climbed up a volcano alone with 60 pounds of equipment and waited out a snowstorm to get the shots? Crazy photographers.

Crazy photog mayhap, but he knew what he had to do to get those shots. Oughta be able to flog 'em for some Not All That Filthy Lucre.
Only half way so; found again recently some stamps bought Ago bearing aurorae (only 2 designs, shown below if don't get blocked).  Volcano stamps either foreign or buyable from places like Zazzle.

As a photographer, it's just what you do.  It's all part of the pursuit of perfection.

I once spent a good 4 days waiting out in a dumpster, covered by things I'd rather not think about, all to get that one photo of the hot girl down the street in her shower.  But, when there's only that one angle where you can see in through the gap when her window is ajar, and the dumpster is the only vantage point facing it, you damn well make that sacrifice.

And photographers hate it when people take credit of stolen work. I hate using watermark signatures, but it's gotta be done sometimes.

Wow.

Usually you need a lot of unsafe psychedelic drugs for that kind of view.

When asked how he was capable of getting such amazing images on a consistent basis, Arthur "Weegee" Fellig replied "Simple. f/8 and be there."

So often, this advice is true.  Being in the right place at the right time is far more important than worrying about camera settings and being a gearhead.

This shot is another example of this.

Skywolf the Scribbler: Don't know if I could ever make some pennies, but I really want to get into photography now

It's a lot of fun, and you can start with something as simple as an iPhone.

I've always based my camera purchases on "gee I wish I could _____ but I need a _____ to do it."

Where are the unicorns?

Srsly, that picture is phenomenal.  I'm definitely favoriting this.
