I can't stand Eli Roth. I was listening to the commentary on Cabin Fever and he actually called his mom. The whole conversation was creepy. You could picture his mom wiping his ass all the way through film school and was still grasping for acceptance. He was the definition of snow flake.

I like Eli Roth. I think he's got talent. He should direct more, though. Three movies in ten years for a young director is pretty ridiculous.

As a person he seems like an inestimable douchebag, no question, but he's a decent director given the normal standards of the horror genre. Outside of that genre he would likely struggle, but as long as he sticks to it, he's fine.

Of course, the truth is that lots of people in Hollywood are like that.

You have Netflix streaming? They have a new exclusive show called Hemlock Grove, based on a novel. Roth directed the pilot and was an executive producer. You might like it. It's like a blend of Twin Peaks, X-Files, Buffy, Supernatural, Lost Boys, and a ton of other influences. Nothing ground breaking, but enjoyable if you like quirky supernatural light horror that doesn't take itself too seriously.

An analogy: it's a masterfully blended whiskey, not an awesome and unique single malt.

Just last night I noticed it and decided to give it a go without knowing anything other than it being a "dark" Netflix original... once I saw his name in the credits and realized the plot was TP-esque I got really interested and actually turned it off because I want to be able to give it my full attention.

All octopuses are poisonous.  It's just that certain types like the blue-ringed octopus have venom strong enough to kill a human.  And with the blue-ringed octopus, you probably won't know you've been bitten or that it was even there, that is, until you die of respiratory failure in a few minutes.  But you still won't feel anything as its venom contains tetrodotoxin, the same stuff in pufferfish poison.

And Eli Roth's attempts to try to show that there's some social commentary to the Hostel movies and they aren't torture porn movies made for scumbags to get off of on the suffering of others are just pathetic.

Octopuses can be hostel, too.

Back in the late 70s I saw a Blue-Ringed octopus for sale in a aquarium store.  Couldn't believe they would sell something like that.

Wow.  That's interesting.  I wonder if anyone found out if they were poisonous and bought them as gifts for "special people" in their lives.

The "Thanksgiving" trailer in Grindhouse was pretty stellar. Beyond that, yeah, he's utterly unremarkable.

According to the article, an unfunny Jew was attacked by non-kosher food, and then was rescued by a Catholic.

Reading your statement, I can only assume that you haven't seen the last two episodes.

Spoiler:  they're laughably bad.  Like... worse than the acting in the show bad.   Which is a shame, because the show starts off pretty well, and then drowns in its own derp.

In fact, the only remotely redeeming qualities of the show were the transformation scene, and watching Kaniehtiio Horn get naked.

While the gift for that certain person in your life is an interesting idea, if I had an octopus I simply would never have the urge to pick it up in my hand in the first place. It would get to live out its life in its tank completely unmolested, and I'd be in no danger. They are pretty, interesting creatures but hardly the sort of pet you'd want to cuddle. Unless you are Japanese I guess.
