In 1982, his 7-year-old daughter Laura was kidnapped, molested and murdered. Two years later his wife slipped into a coma during child birth and later died.

Damn.

Guilty of slapping or not, that man must be made of some tough stuff.

That little snowflake can't be very popular at school right now, especially if it turns out that it was a false accusation.

I told my kids if there were ever a teacher that smacked them but had not smacked the other hundreds or thousands of kids they've ever taught.... I'm gonna want to know what they did so I could smack them too.

"After 15 minutes or something the principal spoke and said some really nice words about Mr. Dunn," said Nelson.  "Then he said Mr. Dunn would want us to go back to class so in respect for Mr. Dunn we all went back to class."

Man you morons are easily manipulated

a kid at my high school got the football coach fired after he complained about something similar.  the football players were extremely displeased with the kid and he pretty much had a terrible last 2 years of high school

MrBallou: That little snowflake can't be very popular at school right now, especially if it turns out that it was a false accusation.

If these kids were really supporting Dunn, that snowflake would've walked into the office and started declaring the accusation to be false and participated in the walkout, if he knew what was good for him.  Well the kids I went to school with knew how to make that happen anyway.  The Dunn supporters are snowflakes themselves after giving in following a 15 minutes talk.

One year in HS, our principal threatened suspension for seniors skipping on the unofficial senior skip day.  All seniors participated, some decided on skipping after the threat was delivered.  The threat fell to the wayside.  The following year no threat was given.  Principals understand the concept of no students = less budget.

I knew a kid who got arrested for kneeing a teacher in the balls. Though that teacher was creepy as fark. He eventually got arrested and escorted out of the school by the state police for hitting on 7th grade girls, some of them were my friends. Once in class he cried,we weren't even being assholes.

There's not a lot of info, but one of the (few) other articles on the issue says that something definitely happened. The teacher says that he was gesturing for the student to get back in his seat, but the student happened to be standing too close. Some students claim to have witnessed it; there should at least be a class full of them.

I would have expected them to call in the Zero Tolerance storm troopers to show kids what happens when you dont follow the rules. Its what would have happened in my school.

The school likely called the cops to protect themselves.  Now it is up to the DA's office to decide further, and we all know they are about true evidence as oppose to conviction numbers.

He'll get his job back. Then on the way to work, his car will catch on fire. He'll probably narrowly escape the blaze. Then he will get hit by a bus as he tries to get away from the inferno.

How about getting Mr. Dunn to speak instead of presuming that he make that exact statement!

I remember the nuns we had in grade school. Not to be even remotely reconed with. I still have a wooden ruler I purloined from our sixth grade nun/teacher. It's mounted like a deer head on the wall.

High school.. The Monsignor was the dictator. Read about him if you wish: http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/George_Tribou

Hmmm. Well, I could never be a teacher. I don't have the patience. Maybe it was an accident.....but he had to be gesturing pretty emphatically. If the kid wasn't really hurt, and since it seems he is a rather well liked teacher, I hope he gets his job back. Maybe serve a temporary suspension. Keep him out the rest of the schoolyear. It's almost over anyways.

While sad and dramatic, those terrible events took place some 30+ years ago. I'm sure one is never quite the same after going through that, but it is still a long time in which to be able to move on and rebuild your life. Including this bit of info about the teacher makes us feel sympathy for him, but does nothing to clarify whether he actually slapped a student or why.

He was a music teacher. The class I was in there was a kid who had an aide so he never got super creepy in our class but in the other classes he would say farked up shiat about him farking his sister and all sorts of crazy shiat.

I was spanked on two different occasions by my school's principal in 1989. I was in 3 grade.

Each time was 3 swings of a paddle with air holes onto my butt. Hard. He was a large man. Pain.

What did my parents do? Spanked me some more when I got home.

And appropriate.

My dad taught junior high school for 33 years for LA Unified School District, I was told very clearly were I involved in any shenanigans at school involving physical confrontation with school personnel, my dad would find out the real story through the informal teacher network. And, were I at fault, to be ready for round 2 at the house.

But he would also pick up my daily confiscated skateboard on way home after school while meeting my PE teacher for a beer....

My 7th grade Geography teacher was creepy as fark. I was bending down to get a coke from the pop machine and I turned my head to the side....and there was his crotch. 2 inches from my face. I look up and he was grinning down at me. My not so csb.

Bleh. I've seen that look before as well. I had a creepy 9th grade teacher who used to sit on the edge of our desks or crouch down right beside us, as close as possible, to answer questions. Strangely enough, he only behaved that way with his female students.

He was sweaty, overweight and his shirts all had pit stains in them. He used to get Wendy's drive-thru for lunch every day and would just sit in his car all alone in the parking lot, watching us.

capt.hollister: Including this bit of info about the teacher makes us feel sympathy for him, but does nothing to clarify whether he actually slapped a student or why.

It's true. That information has no real bearing on the case and was clearly meant to inspire pathos for the man. And it totally worked, now I just want to give him a cookie.

You can use the same line on her grandmother, but replace "Potter" with "Morgan." You'd probably ask the mom if she'd like to see your Magic Johnson.

"It's really not fair, he deserves so much respect," said junior Hannah Gerle.

No, it isn't fair, and it really, really sucks that both those things happened to him.  But he still has to EARN respect, just like everybody else.  You can't simply give it because somebody has a good enough sob story.
