We all know marijuana has miraculous medicinal properties.  But I wouldn't use "medical evidence" from the 1800s as a basis for that assertion.

Looks like it's time for the Funcooker!

"from India?"  India is not mentioned in the story.  It came from a French doctor in Guyana (Caribbean).  It was called "Indian hemp", i.e., that new world "Indians" used.  Subby did a reverse Christopher Columbus.

Someone mentions hemp and doesn't immediately go to hell?  WR Hearst wins another round on the Tilt-a Whirl.

Dropsy was usually used to mean the edema resulting from heart failure. It was treated with foxglove which contained digitalis and was more of an art than a science until the standardized pills were available. Nothing in marijuana is going to treat dropsy or for that matter eye paralysis, whatever that is. The important thing to take away from this article us that the singular form of data is datum not anecdote.

Looking up dropsy/edema in wikipedia, I came across this even more fun medical term: kwashiorkor.

Speaking as one who has been there and done that, I am a nicotine addict in recovery (6676 days today) and I can testify firsthand: The ONLY medication I have ever discovered which will take the edge off of withdrawal pangs to the point where the average person can almost tolerate them is hemp,  in doses of 250--500 mg every 2--4 hours.

Figure out how much they make off of nicotine taxes and how much they would lose on legal weed, and the evidence becomes pretty clear.

I just wish they wouldn't do it to everything.

Trying to find a good unpasteurized orange juice is damn near impossible these days, as is finding unpasteurized apple juice.  And those two things taste NASTY if they get pasteurized.
