Reminds me of a saying by a busker: "A good way to draw a crowd is to light yourself on fire. A better way to draw a crowd is to only look like you're going to light yourself on fire." Apparently this idiot didn't know the difference.

What? You mean electricity can set gasoline ablaze? Who knew?

Seems to me if a cop was called because some nut was hanging out in the garden with a can of flammable liquid you'd bring a fire extinguisher before a tazer. They had two cops, One starts spraying the guy so he can't light himself on fire while the other can dive in through the cloud and tackle him. Save the day and would look funny on camera,

Wasn't there a cop a while back who tried to extinguish a human torch with a can of pepper spray? Turned out that the large red can of pepper spray looked the same as the fire extinguisher in the trunk of her cop car.

I laughed way too hard at that headline.

PapaChester: That cop should be charged with accidental manslaughter due to negligence. No question.

To protect and serve my ass.

Your ass needs protecting?

You know that it would be untrue
You know that I would be a liar
If I was to taze on you
And spark your crazy ass on fire

Nothing a bit of retraining won't fix.

Glancing Blow: Why was he tazed? If he's just flammable, but not threatening anyone then why taze? I see the problem as a function of the police being paramilitary. They get orders and must obey them immediately, so when they give one to you and you don't obey their displaced anger jumps to using force.

I'm not saying all or most, just some unquantifiable number see civilians as subordinates.

I come from a family thoroughly steeped in law enforcement and military careers. I'm related to and have known far more than my fair share of law enforcement and military officers. Trust me when I say that it is perfectly safe and perfectly reasonable to say "most". Law enforcement officers do not interact with civilians, they handle them.

While the cop was an idiot, I am also having a hard time feeling sorry for the guy that doused himself in a flammable liquid...

I saw a demonstration once where OC (pepper) spray was ignited with a stun gun. You definitely have to be careful and know what the fark you are doing.

Yup, I loved this quote ""They (officer and motorist) attempted to get the young man to roll on the ground to put out the flames," Portland Police Chief Rosie Sizer said. "He kept running away and was uncooperative." It is not clear if the man was running away because of the effects of the pepper spray.

/If I was on fire and being sprayed down with CS I would probably be "uncooperative" too

You'd think these cops would have learned from the last time this sort of thing occurred.  Or the time before that.  Or the time before that.

...but this is a really really bad attempt at trolling.

You should be doused with a flammable liquid and hit with a 50,000 volt stun gun.

If he just shot him from a short distance he may still be alive. On the bright side, it saved the cremation fee.
