It was placed there. I'm betting the building has something in it that the feds can't wait for a warrant.

Police officials say the part could be difficult to remove, and may require demolition work that would destroy the two surrounding buildings.

Are they

(a) seriously proposing to destroy two buildings to recover the landing gear

(b) proposing to take advantage of planned demolition (to build a mosque)

(c) letting their lips move without engaging their brains

?

Yeah; it's been there 11 years, what would it hurt if it stayed there longer?

And, why would they need to recover it in one piece? Get a friction saw and cut it down to size.

Or they could get some lube and see if they could work it loose.

/ took them an aweful long time to find this

The Bush administration hid parts all over the area, but somehow just forgot where they hid that one. I've had that happen with easter eggs. You look around and find most of them, but sometimes you just can't find that last one. I've even had egg hunts at the same place several years in a row, and sometimes one of the kids will find an egg we lost there years ago.

People should note that this find is not unusual.  The entire debris field for one of the planes was in this area - extended out in a pie shaped wedge from the WTC impact point.   Every few months something new is found - usually something small though, not an entire wheel.

IIRC that noise originated with Rosie O'Donnell.

It has to do with the state of education at the time she went through the system,  Boys would be sent to industrial education (shop) classes.  Girls would get home economics.  Boys would be shown films on industrial processes.  Girls wouldn't have a clue.

If it was planted, they'll figure it out soon enough. Every plane part has a unique SN so they know which line number it originally came from. When they swap a part from one plane to another, the part gets recertified and listed in the log of the airframe it went on. Kinda hard to just put a random scrap yard gear door somewhere.

Not every part. Not even close. Some parts yes, but not every part. Can you imagine the paperwork nightmare that would create? Hell, not every part will have a part number on it either. I would imagine that a landing gear assembly would have some sort of serial attached to it but if this chunk of metal is a part that doesn't have that number on it then there might not be a way to tie it to a particular airplane.

There was no hijacking. The mosque used its secret tractor beam to pull those planes to their doom.  Surprise ending:  that landing gear is actually the left main gear from the Space Shuttle Columbia. The mosque used its death ray again in 2003 to get the first Israeli astronaut who was on the shuttle. The shuttle's orbit passed over New York, the damage was done, unnoticed (covered up) then the inevitable happened a few orbits later when it reentered over Texas. If you don't believe me, check out the prototype Space Shuttle Enterprise which is not coincidentally stored in New York. You can see for yourself. The left landing gear door of the Enterprise was modified for testing theories about the landing gear during the Columbia investigation. Then suddenly the investigators were ordered to ignore the landing gear and look at the leading edge of the wing. Who gave that order? Probably the same people who gave "President" Bush his orders. The same people who right now are making sure the serial numbers of that landing gear will match one of the 9/11 planes instead of the space shuttle.

I did read the article.

FTA:" The part bears a "Boeing" stamp, followed by a series of numbers, as seen in an exclusive photo obtained by NBC 4 New York."

That may or may not be a serial number and there are no claims that it is at this time by the people there and Boeing hasn't commented on it yet. Those may be part numbers (which are not unique and don't do anything but ID the type of plane it was once attached to). My main point was that not every part has a unique serial number attached to it (which was the claim I was responding to) because it would be a paperwork nightmare.

I've always felt that this is a really important component in the conspiratorial mentality - a terror of the chaos that is the reality of our universe, and a need to see it put in order. It may be a complex form of OCD.

I have pretty bad ocd myself since I was young, but I don't allow it to get in the way of trying to have common sense and logic amongst all the bullshiat and opinions on this planet that don't have proven fact and evidence to back then up

Back when up?

YoOjo: huh, why do they need to demolish anything to get that thing out of there?
If it got there it can be removed via the same path. Just need to rent a crane, hook it to the landing gear, pull it out. Check the soil for body parts and random dna, all done.

Huh, yeah.  If a hundred pounds of metal landing gear came falling down and wedged itself between two concrete buildings traveling at over 300 mph then all you would need to remove it could possibly be the same amount of energy and an appropriate place to position a large enough crane.  I'm just guessing that last part is the rub.  Especially if this is in an 18'' alley.

Well my first try would probably be a enough cribbage stacked 4x4's on top of a couple of 1" plywood sheets each (load distribution) to clear the roof edge for a footing on each roof edge and one or two 6x6's going from each footing above the debris with a come along and a choker and see if it could be tugged out that way. It may be wedged at it's widest point so just getting it to spin on the y axis might break it loose. Worse case there is some cosmetic damage to the buildings exteriors. Demolition of two whole buildings would be my very last option.

\the crane can lift the lumber up to the roofs.

To bad the government doesn't give two shiats about your opinion. The will I get that landing gear no matter what, even if it means eminent domaining those two buildings and destroying them the process and to hell with the people living there.

This.  I've shaped a lot of steel using propane fire.  Clue:  Propane/Gasoline/JetFuel can't *melt* steel, but use any of the three to heat it up to about 1800 degrees and it's soft enough to tie in a knot.

//conspiracy assholes almost as bad as extreme religious folks.
///extreme opinions rarely have good results over the course of human history

I have a friend who's all into 9/11 conspiracies, and lately, the marathon bomb 'conspiracy'.  It's interesting just asking simple questions like "Please provide evidence for your assertions" and to be met with "the evidence was removed/taken/destroyed!" and "open your eyes, can't you see how the media/whatever is manipulated?"

He also has that "smartest guy in the room" complex, where he believes he is greatly more intelligent than he actually is.  He has a day trading "system" that only loses money in the long run, but he keeps going because every once in awhile he'll have a day where he's ahead.

I don't know, it's interesting.  Somewhere the ability to see logical conclusions becomes miswired, plus a sense of grandiosity and you have a conspiracy theorist.

It's called responsibility,  that was somebody's job and they didn't do it. Im not sure where you work BUT... when I don't do my job or if the people I command do not do their job properly, we are fired.

When it involves the destruction of two 70+ story buildings due to international terrorism perhaps it is a job best done properly.

UNAUTHORIZED FINGER: Why would you need to destroy both buildings?

I have absolutely no idea. Someone probably thinks that dragging it out horizontally is the best way to go instead of simply pulling it out the way it came in and that doing so would damage a large portion of both foundations or something dumb like that.

On a side note it's starting to look like it's not a part of the landing gear but a part of the flaps mechanism (Flap lever). Look at the left hand panel of this diagram that is too large for Fark to handle.
