Odd. Fark usually prefers to never link to the original source, so that link of yours should have been the one greened. Maybe Gawker will remark on that one and Fark will link to that.

For better or worse, he angrily writes about topics that should cause anger. But, fiery language and bad words are a turn off for some people and are unlikely to convince non-believers. Not to say that blandly describing this stuff would help it spread. Just that, the folks who think this shiat is too outrageous to be true, see his rhetoric, think he is stretching it or has an agenda and ignore it as a conspiratorial rant.

Regardless, the guy digs deep for these stories and calling Goldman Sachs a vampire squid on the face of the world sticking it's blood funnel into anything that smells like money, is farking perfect.

I think the moral of the story is that all sides are pretty much helpless to do anything against the one side that matters. Did you get a different gist from all that?

I'm not a fan of Taibbi's writing style and political philosophy in general (I kinda fall in the category of 'corporatist' Democrat that he and his ilk love to rail against) but nonetheless this is an issue that more people need to be aware of, and I'm glad it's getting some publicity.

2013-04-26 10:30:47 PM
Is there a more condensed explanation of this article?  See, I'd love to share this with my family and some of my friends, but if you think they're going to read 4 pages worth of an article taking about an issue that they didn't realize in the first place with that level of complexity, you're nuts.

Yeah, yeah... They should be capable of reading and absorbing this.  Throw me all the insults you want, but let's be real.  (Too) Many people who should be reading this will get, at most, halfway through the second page before their eyes gloss over and they click some other link to see another "Harlem shake" vid, or their Facebook page, or a TMZ vid showing a celebrity sneeze where some snot flies our of their nose.

Jeez... I just depressed myself.  Thanks anyway for the article, subby.  It really was an incredible read, and Taibbi is a fantastic journalist.

But you are correct that a sound and sane person should be angry. Therefore, the people who are "turned off" by his rhetoric are people who are not logical enough to be helpful, or to even recognize the harm and the consequences. They really don't matter until the problem suits their less-than-rational frame of narrow manners-before-reason rhetoric.

agreed.

If anything, people aren't being angry enough and the people who are "turned off" by angry people are part of the problem instead of the solution. I hate to compare them to sheep because that's so trite, but I can't think of any other comparison that would be as apt.

But the powers that be will always tamp that down if we let them. Look how the media turned on Occupy so fast. "Rapists" "Homeless" "shiatting on police cars" and all sorts of invective hurled at them when what the were saying was "enough is enough!" when it comes to the banks. Everything has just become one scam or another that makes us shovel money at these behemoth corps and banks and until we collectively say "fark you!" to these guys, they're just going to keep at it.

We may indeed be at the point of pitchforks and torches

And nothing will come of it, because we've decided as a civilization that having enough money and influence means that you live by a different set of rules. And we dare not try to do anything about because of all the more harm it might do by rocking the boat.

Obviously these people deserve the power and influence they wield. They earned it through hard work and/or God's blessing.

We're still ruled by kings and warlords. They just learned to hide it better.
