I'm sure the kids will stop bullying him when they're all forces to have their lunches inspected every day for any sign of a nut.  That will totally solve the problem.

Williams said other area school districts have made certain buildings peanut-free if a student has a deadly form of the allergy.  She said her son is forced to eat his lunch in "an office with cinder block walls"
Sounds like they made accommodations for your son just fine you farking twat.

What about my child, who is allergic to everything in the world except nuts. I demand that the school district build an entire school out of nuts for him to attend.

Mom: My son can die if exposed to peanuts
School board president: (snicker snicker) if he's exposed to what?
Mom: Peanuts!
School board president: Ha ha ha!  Oh, I'm sorry.  Excuse me.
*chuckles from the rest of the school board*
School board president: Is that the only thing he's allergic to?
Mom: No, he gets sick if he so much as touches any nuts at all.

I just don't remember any kids in my school being allergic to peanuts. If there were, I know I would have done the following:

I double dog dare you to touch this peanut butter (after using the appropriate I dare and double dare)
Make him laugh and then fling a chunk of peanut butter in to his mouth
Here's a chocolate Space Food Stick. Ha ha! It's a peanut butter one, fluffy face!

It seems there's a story like this every week. Which is weird because it was fairly recently that this deadly peanut allergy became a thing at all.

Lets see. If a school has 500 or so students, and 50 or so employees, and ONE of them has an allergy, I'd suggest that the odd-man-out gets to accomodate the rest, not the other way around. 549 people shouldn't have to change a damn thing to make the remaining ONE person happy. Majority rule. That's the way I see it, but then again, I hate all kids, not just the ones with nut allergies...

I had to laugh when I saw articles blaming the peanut allergy explosion on vaccines.  I do not understand why people are so afraid of vaccines.  I'd rather have a peanut allergy than small pox or polio.

Want to help your kid? Stop "painting the target"! All the other kids' laser guided munitions are focused on your little snow-pile because you're shining the laser on his forehead. Teach your kid to watch out for himself so he doesn't always expect the world to accomodate his special needs.

Dumbass twunt.

Two further changes to childhood vaccines were the introduction of the influenza Hib B in 1988 that was eventually rolled into an unprecedented 5 vaccines in one needle, the PENTA. Neither parents nor family doctors questioned these changes authorized by a WHO expert committee and recommended to governments in western countries. In the documented rush to pull this formula together, it seemed to escape notice that the molecular weights of proteins in the Hib B were almost identical to those in peanut. Peanut allergy tipped quietly into epidemic between 1987 and 1994. ER records in westernized countries revealed the tip of the iceberg in the early 1990s - 90% of all admissions for allergy were for peanut. The allergy hit critical mass around 1998. The tipping point came when the first massive wave of food allergic children entered the public school systems at ages 4 and 5.
Pre-school and kindergarten teachers and principals were taken by surprise5 at the sudden appearance of not one but several food allergic kids in each school, hundreds in each school board, thousands across the US, the UK, Canada and other western countries.
Allergy researchers frantic for an answer to this deadly phenomenon questioned the role skin creams with poorly refined peanut oil, levels of peanut consumption, methods of peanut preparation. They examined long-shot risk factors such as birth month, blood type, gender and race. None pointed to vaccination, a common childhood event with a proven history of creating mass anaphylaxis.
It is not without irony that in virtually every medical article on the allergy mice are made anaphylactic to peanut by injection. If vaccination is the functional mechanism by which millions of children have been sensitized to peanut why isn't every child allergic? One researcher pointed out in 2004 that "Adjuvant 65 offers the advantage over mineral oil used in [other adjuvants] that it can be metabolized".
"Metabolized" means that the body can break down and eliminate the waste vaccine. This ability to detoxify varies between individuals and is today an enormous challenge for western children increasingly weakened by digestive imbalance. And even if one does not accept the Injection Hypothesis, the balance between fear of disease and risk of side effects has clearly shifted. Educated parents for whom official rationalizations now ring hollow are beginning to refuse vaccination.

Of course, here's the "valid citation".  LOL.  http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-chat/2365460/posts

If your kid is THAT susceptible to allergic reactions from something as common as peanuts they they'll DIE if they come in contact with them, then you're doing a shiatty job as a parent putting them in a situation like this.

She said her son is forced to eat his lunch in "an office with cinder block walls"

You'd prefer what must seem like a death sentence of sending him to the cafeteria?  Why did you force him into the situation in the first place?  Take some farking responsibility and figure out how to get the kid homeschooled, or sent to one of the other schools that makes accomodations for such allergies that you mentioned in the article.

Yes, this. Remember the survival of the fittest? We're spending billions of dollars to keep the sickly going. I'm not saying it's wrong, or that anyone should die, but it's like Bubble Boy. Sometimes there's NO amount of accommodation that can help you.

Can someone answer this for me seriously? Honest question. Why are there so many peanut allergies these days? Is it the helicopter parenting and the trendy avoidance of anything that resembles a potential threat?

All these books are coming out telling me I shouldn't eat allergens while pregnant because they can kill my unborn child, and I'm going... Um, it seems kind of backwards. Kids NEED TO EAT DIRT and PLAY OUTSIDE to gain immunity. Shouldn't it be the same? I'm being told if I breastfeed that I can't eat all kinds of stuff until I wean off because ALLERGIES. I just feel like avoidance would only make the immune system weaker rather than getting it used to stuff. I don't want to raise a weak kid.

Thoughts? Looking for helpful opinions- maybe someone on Fark is an allergy specialist or a pediatrician.

goatleggedfellow: Beaten up and medicine stolen

You know what. As someone with a chronic medical condition that could get out of hand right quick, I say that the solution is to prosecute the kids that are stealing the epi-pens for attempted murder (or at a minimum reckless endangerment). A couple of kids go to juvie, and the rest will get the message right quick. Problem solved.
