I think the iggles will look to defense, specifically a LB for the 2nd round and later rounds for a corner or safety...a value RB is also an option later.

Not sure about QB's..i was a fan of Manuel in the second or third round.

They need a DB (especially safety) more than anything, I'd say.  Also, it could be interesting if any of the high-profile QBs are still around.

Redskins had better draft secondary help. And a groundskeeper.

On the Dallas trade fiasco, NFL.COM has Cowboys getting the 31st and 74th picks from SF.  BAD,

ESPN has them getting the 31st and the 93rd, SF's later 3rd round pick.

Which is right?  I'm scared mommy!!

I'm actually surprised that they didn't make a push to get Elam. (Or maybe they did, and just couldn't strike the right deal to move up.) And Scott may be the only other QB which could possibly be a fit, although at this point, I'm assuming they'll just sit tight (outside of drafting someone in like rd 6 or 7), evaluate Foles this year, and hope for a better QB class next year.

Right now the MLB, NHL, and NBA drafts are glumly sitting at a Hooters , sucking down shiatty beer and telling each other that the NFL draft is overrated, "totally gay", and just a big popularity contest.

The Niners need to get:

2nd: Damontre Moore, DE
2nd (trade up from 30 to 10 or so to get): Zach Ertz, TE
3rd: (traded to move up above)
3rd: Marcus Lattimore, RB
4th: Best Available DE
5th: Best Available WR
7th: Lawrence Okoye, Athlete
7th: Gamle on another athlete or trade up

They can't sign all their picks anyway so they might as well burn as many as they can to trade up.

They showed 74th on the screen at the stadium last night, and the NFL is the official draft tracker.

The Trade Value Chart (Pops) shows that the 49ers got a 900 value pick and the Cowboys got 820 in return. So they could have gotten more - a pick worth 80 more points of value. That puts them at SF's last pick in round 2, instead of their pick at round 3 #12 if the values were equal.

Now, one theory is that the Cowboys don't want to pay the 18 pick's expected salary considering the precipitous curve in rookie compensation, as seen here:
harvardsportsanalysis.files.wordpress.com
Perhaps the cash-strapped boys are looking to limit their salary obligations and are willing to take a step back in the draft and target players that will be available later. That might be why the Cowboys had invited the guy they ultimately drafted in spite of the fact that he wasn't in danger of being taken at 18.

I know we traded for Asomugha, and have Rogers and and Tarell Brown, but I want another CB on top of all that.  That's how bad Chris Culliver was.

I predict Arthur Brown will be the best LB that comes out of this draft...every time I watched KSU the kid was everywhere, hitting and dropping everything.

Watching Flacco hurl up a hail marry, with about an hour of hang time underneath it, after being chased to the sideline and actually CONNECT to a wide open receiver pretty much tells you everything you need to know about Culliver.

/plus he's a bigot

Connect?  I don't think Flacco was throwing to his receivers.  I think he was just chucking it up at Culliver and counting on someone to beat him.

That description of Geno Smith could be changed to Landry Jones except for the first part about waiting.

Whoever gets Landry Jones is going to get a decent QB who is a good locker room presence.

Most OU fans are glad to see him go and I keep telling everyone once they see Blake Bell throw the ball they will wish they had him back.

Just run for 3-4 yards every single down and succeed with the least exciting offense in 75 years.

Well, I don't dig on the language choice one bit, but at least from the NHL prospective: if you're not drafted top 5 in the NHL, the odds are like 10% you'll play even one season in the show.  Just not really a non-elite rookie friendly sport.

Two words -- Honey Badger.  Qualification -- if the franchise is willing to invest in paying a flying squad of bodyguards paid to keep him away 24/7 from all the kinds of shiat he can get into between practices and games.

I'm draft eligible. No, really. I submitted the paperwork to the league office before the deadline, and everything. So if anyone needs an almost-40 year old sixth-string punter with no football experience (other than watching it), and you're willing to pony up the league minimum, then I'm your guy. :) I could also be the retard that the rest of the team rallies around. Whichever your team needs. I'm pretty flexible...

Or there's this:

Old trade chart verdict: 49ers win. They received a pick worth 900 points for picks worth 820 points. Drake: "The team trading up (49ers) received excess value equal to .03 number one picks, 10 percent more value than they traded away."

Harvard chart verdict: Cowboys win. They received picks worth 331.6 for a pick worth 249.5 points. Drake: "The team trading down (Cowboys) received excess value equal to .17 number one picks, 33 percent more value than they traded away."

/everyone should be reading the NFC West blog on ESPN if they do anything involving the NFC West since he's better than the rest of 'em

The comfirmation of 74th is reassuring; the rationale for how badly Jones got pillaged on the deal, less so. Jerry has proven he can be an average GM...from 2000 - 2012 the record is 104-104.  This trade seems like a below-average effort.

If 74th can play, I'll not fret about it.  If Fredericks can play, I'll buy a fake beard and a jersey 2 sizes too small - still a L - to squeeze over my fat belly and cheer.

Very good friend of mine was drafted by The Devils back in 90 or 91. He was easily the best defenseman I'd ever played with or seen play at the highschool and college level. He lasted one season with minimal ice time.

Interesting. Either way it's not a trade-rapin' really. You can argue that the Cowboys could have gotten a ~6th pick in addition, but the value of those picks is so low by the charts.

Niners have very little cap space, so they'll trade a bunch of picks.  They had something like 12 or 13 picks this year.
