a real country music singer is gone

take notes kids, cause the 'new country' ear barf is a shallow husk of what true country music used to be

/not sure if the possum was a 'good guy' or not, but he sang some damn fine tunes

Nashville has a sad.

...which explains why they shuffled him off to the side for untalented American Idol winners, 18-year-old titties, and Jesus and Mama loving empty hats 20 years ago?

He stopped living here today.

Seriously though, possibly the greatest country song ever written.

Its a good one, but You Never Even Called Me By My Name by David Allan Coe (aka I was drunk the day my momma got out of prison) is probably the most country song EVAR.

As far as the 'real country music/who's gonna fill their shoes' debate goes---music evolves. That said (assuming you don't believe it) there ARE alternatives to RascalAntebellum/TaylorUnderwood/CarrieSwift

If you ever hear the old Johnny Preston song,"Running Bear".......Check out the cheesy back ground vocals.that is a very young George Jones and J.P."Big Bopper" Richardson...That song was recorded in a Port Arthur Texas studio...George was from Vidor,Tx.(yes..that Vidor!) and hung around the studio daily..trying to catch a break...Richardson was a Beaumont DJ..

steamingpile: FlashHarry: i'm amazed he lived that long.

I think everyone was, sad since we had tickets for his concert at the Fox in Atlanta the day after he checked into the hospital, thought it was routine and he would be fine for the May 5th show, was going with my mother and step father, he is really upset about it.

You... you are among the last people to be No-Showed. You have tickets to the Final No-Show. Frame them.

And to everyone bemoaning the loss of country music, look up KNBT. To give you an idea of what they're about, they play a full hour of Willie every Sunday at noon. They call it "Americana". I call it Good.

There are probably a lot of people who have greatly influenced the lives of millions... and you have no idea who they are... So, ya know... shut up.

/Its important to me damnit.

This should have been the headline.

And yet people complain about all the headlines being copy and paste, or hacky.

I'm a hack? When someone says George Jones that's the very first thing that comes to my mind. I imagine its the first song that comes to other people's minds as well. I don't know how that makes it "hacky" or copypasta.

They should just display an open coffin with nobody in it for when people come for the showing.
This way No Show Jones can die as he lived and miss one last performance.

Okay, the stuff they play on FM Radio and gets exposure on TV?

That isn't country music. That's music played b y frustrated wannabe pop singers who couldn't make it in the big time, so they started singing with a twang and talking about mama and jesus and girl power and appealing to conservatives and mini-van driving soccer moms.

Real country (Well, it's Alt-Country now) is still out there, and fairly easy to find. But you're not going to be force fed it by big music labels, FM Radio, or CMT.

i've only heard a couple of the new guys - wayne the train & hank III -  i don't get out much - but they are ok - will still take Buck Owens / original Hank / Waylon / Willie / Faaron Young / even Dwight Yokam

but ya, when the same song can be heard on the "country" station , the soft rock station, the other soft rock station , the pop station - it's kinda hard to take it real serious. and it's terrible sounding as well.

/old, but not even that old

I won't say my dad "forced" me to listen to a lot of George...but if it was Sunday...and I was home...it was playing. He always told me I would appreciate it one day. I did not believe him, but that day did come. Still not a big ol' school country/bluegrass fan..but I can appreciate.
