Between this and seeing Conway Twitty in the grips of Alzheimer's, I need a drink. In honor of George, maybe several.
/At least we still have Merle and Willie.

This.  Thank you.

They should just display an open coffin with nobody in it for when people come for the showing.
This way No Show Jones can die as he lived and miss one last performance.

FirstNationalBastard: ravenlore: log_jammin: He stopped loving her today.

This should have been the headline.

And yet people complain about all the headlines being copy and paste, or hacky.

I'm a hack? When someone says George Jones that's the very first thing that comes to my mind. I imagine its the first song that comes to other people's minds as well. I don't know how that makes it "hacky" or copypasta.

Just wanted the original video for "Who's gonna fill their shoes" which I probably had not seen in 20-odd years.. and it amazes me that I remember every single bit of it like I had just seen it yesterday.

/damn it's dusty in here.

RIP George.

So, why has this thread disapeared from the main page?

Sad day. RIP Mr. Jones.

2013-04-26 02:04:36 PM
I wonder if he'll be cremated.  It could take hours for his liver to go out.

A really interesting read if you get the chance.  It's a miracle he lived past 35, for sure, but he sounds like he was a hell of a lot of fun to hang out with (in small doses) back in the day.  Some crazy stories there.

I actually didn't care much for country growing up. My mom listened to the old stuff and I thought it sucked.  As I've gotten older I've gained an appreciation for virtually all genres of music.  I had a chance to see Johnny Cash at Toad's Place in New Haven CT in 1990 and didn't go - I've always regretted it.  For that reason I try to see these legendary types when I can.  I saw both Dolly Parton and Loretta Lynn and though they are not what I listen to even semi-regularly they put on fantastic shows and I can say that I enjoyed them live.

inner ted: a real country music singer is gone

take notes kids, cause the 'new country' ear barf is a shallow husk of what true country music used to be

/not sure if the possum was a 'good guy' or not, but he sang some damn fine tunes

Real country music isn't gone.  It's not found in Nashville.  You can find it all throughout Texas.  It's now called red dirt country.  Bands like Kyle Park, Casey Donahew, Jackson Taylor, Eleven Hundred Springs, Dallas Moore, Phil Hamilton, 32 Below, Matt Mason, Spur 503, Scooter Brown and Jarrod Birmingham.

I think most call it "red dirt music" rather than "red dirt country".  And yes, I much prefer it to what's called "country" these days.

Your original account isn't missing. You just forgot the punctuation (a question mark at the end).

I'd give you the url to the profile, but that meddling question mark causes problems with the link.

So was it the drinking or her memory that killed him?

The coroner's report states that with the blood from Jones's body, he could start his own still.

steamingpile: FlashHarry: i'm amazed he lived that long.

I think everyone was, sad since we had tickets for his concert at the Fox in Atlanta the day after he checked into the hospital, thought it was routine and he would be fine for the May 5th show, was going with my mother and step father, he is really upset about it.

You... you are among the last people to be No-Showed. You have tickets to the Final No-Show. Frame them.

And to everyone bemoaning the loss of country music, look up KNBT. To give you an idea of what they're about, they play a full hour of Willie every Sunday at noon. They call it "Americana". I call it Good.

Pumpernickel bread: I am not really a country music fan, but this guy was legendary.   Amazing booming voice and my father's all-time favorite artist..  Once on the infamous Carnvival Triumph I watched a small Asian guy that could do a pretty good impersonation of Jones.  Probably the only reason that dude wasn't a big-time country star was because a small Asian dude.  Were he born a big redneck, he would have been famous, not playing behind a bar on a cruise ship.

You gotta watch out for guys doing impressions of George Jones.

I'd've bet almost anything this would be the headline. Too obvious, I guess.

I've given up trying to figure out Fark headlines.

CSB. He did a show in my town about 5 years ago. I was still on-air at the time and naturally got free passes. Mrs. Buck fell asleep during his set. To be fair he was just coming off a really bad cold/pneumonia.

//always liked Haggard and Waylon better (Gosdin too, for that matter) but I appreciate his contributions.

I met "Johnny Preston" when I lived in Holland.  He married a Dutch girl and was running a bar called "The Godfather's".  I ended up being a regular there, became a friend, and he gave me a signed copy of his 45 "Running Bear".  Damn, I wish I still had that thing!

Not sure its worth it, I missed the initial announcement and had to buy some off stubhub and wound up getting some in row EEE but cost $400, sad but I think I would rather have the money back.

This describes country music the past 10 years, sad that the last I heard he quit making country because hes pissed at curb being douchebags.

As far as the 'real country music/who's gonna fill their shoes' debate goes---music evolves. That said (assuming you don't believe it) there ARE alternatives to RascalAntebellum/TaylorUnderwood/CarrieSwift
