My daughter was telling me that the university here does that too. Wasn't sure if UNB or Saint Thomas University though. They share the same campus..

They get dogs, I had an oxygen bar at the community college I went to before transferring to my university.

I had two exams (calc and chemistry) yesterday and a term paper due...finals aren't until the week after next.
Could have used a dog about mid-day, I was just wandering about campus about ready to lose my shiat just because of all of the shiat piling on right at the end. I won't even get into how my partner for a final project for a management seminar I need to graduate disappeared 3 weeks ago and doesn't answer emails.

Many libraries have a Reading To Rover program, in which kids practice their reading by reading out loud to a therapy dog.  Those programs are immensely popular.
I wish they'd implement one for adults too.  You're never too old to benefit from the company of dogs and some recreational reading, and it could help the adults who are struggling with literacy or learning the English language.

I am not a university student any more, but I got to tell you that nothing makes all the stress of the world melt away like going home and petting my dog.
You cannot be unhappy while petting a dog.  There is something in the brain that stops you from being stressed out when a happy, waggy dog is in your lap and giving you kisses.

This is news? The university I went to did stuff like this.  Free massage days, puppy/kitty days, free food, etc.  Helps take the edge off during finals.  Unless you're too busy with finals to go play with the puppies.  Then it's just insult to injury.

Gunny Highway: I really hate hearing about this at the end of every semester.

I'm trying to understand the reason for this post.  Is it just to  simply say that you hate hearing about  this program, you don't like dogs and you are a librarian?  If so, thanks for sharing.  Now go back to the sports tab and complain how you don't like soccer or baseball.

If it's to say you think this program is BS.  What makes it different than any other stress reliever? You can't say science says the best stress relievers are 'x'.  It seems like a matter of preferences to me, and everyone has one.

I generally do something physical and watch a movie.  Playing with dogs works too.  I can't keep my dog on campus, so I support the presence of playful puppies.  Plus, some are bigger or smaller than my dog and it is fun to pick up the little ones or wrestle with the big 'uns.

I hate hearing this too.  Not because of any pet preference or employment bias (although I did work in a library).  It is because it is the same stupid story recycled at the same time every year.

/must be about time for Clorox to bring out the "study" that desks have more germs than toilet seats right.

The point?  Not all librarians support programs like this.  This becomes a hot topic at the end of every semester in the library community. It is a subject I have heard argued and discussed for hours on end. I don't really care either way.  It is comes down to the preference of the administration and director.

Yes, I agree with you.

Okay. Is it still okay that I hate hearing about this and don't like dogs?

Now go back to the sports tab and complain how you don't like soccer or baseball

Not exactly, it's more of a "StopLikingThingsIDon'tLike".jpeg.  If the point of your post, which I'm still not clear on, was just to say "Hey, I don't like this program or dogs"  then you are like someone popping in an MLB thread just to say you don't like baseball.  Hey man, everyone is entitled to their opinion, but I just have to wonder why someone would want to spoil something for no particular reason.

This is a stupid story. I don't really care about the program, it is the biannual coverage that is annoying. There are positives and negatives associated with the "stress dog" program.

I used the slashies to point out my own bias on the issue.

I think this is a great idea.  As long as the dogs aren't huskies.  Because then it's promoting rape culture.
