Guess I'll have to make sure to gice an appropriate flying bird salute when I drive by everyday now.

Tsarnaev will be treated with utmost respect by the system. He'll have visits from a Iman and fellow muslims to pray with and share his jihad journey. In time he'll have ghost writers visiting to tell his story.

Hell he already had a judge come and visit him at bedside.

The way this country perverts everything, next year at the Boston marathon will probably see the  Chechen flag paraded down the route.

You are confusing the fact that US citizens do have rights with some sort of pampering.

Your country is only as good as how well it treats its worse citizens.

The kid was walking around for quite some time, they will eventually find the rifle...hopefully. That, or someone has already found it and kept it. It's going to be worth a lot of money one day.

It's more likely that an overzealous cop took a couple of pop shots at him, because he is a terrorist and all.

But no one will care to know if the Boston PD has the habit of shooting unarmed suspects, particularly those involved in terrorist attacks.  It may mean that the entire judicial process is a sham, but no one will actually care.

Mob vengeance FTW.

There is an entire world beyond the borders of your country.

And FYI, the US does not rank as the top country in terms of quality of life.

nor 2nd

nor 5th.

In 2005, it ranked 13th.

Exactly. It's farking sickening to listen to the FoxNews airheads and their ilk bemoaning the fact that Tsarnaev's rights are being respected. That's the entire point of our country; it doesn't matter what you do, you will not simply be spirited away in the night, thrown in a hole and forgotten about.

Who says they're spinning it?  Who's they?  The reports that he had a weapon in the boat were debunked via statements from the police officers at the scene.  The statement was that he had shrapnel (was not described as a bullet) in his neck.

Also, just to keep you all up to date, it wasn't the brown Brown kid, it wasn't the Moroccan kid in blue, it wasn't the Tea Party and it wasn't Zooey Deschanel.  Much of the misinformation was a result of and apologized for by Reddit.

If that's what happened, I don't really blame them for shooting at someone who (or the person he was with) had already shot several cops and thrown bombs at them during the same chase.  If you shoot people while running from police, I think you forfeit your right to be assumed unarmed for the remainder of the pursuit.

I believe proper police protocol calls for the officer or officers to approach the boat deliberately and loudly while politely shouting, "Excuse me sir.  Boston Police Department here.  We're going to let bygones be bygones.  In fact, we thank you for murdering our citizens and fellow officers.  Now, would you be kind enough to indicate whether or not you are currently armed, and if at all possible would you describe the nature of your current arsenal?  Thanks in advance and have a wonderful day!"

Theaetetus: tuxq: A through-and-through bullet wound is treated the same as blunt force trauma, it's not that serious.

If it hits an organ or major artery, it's obviously more serious, but in this case, it did not.

He stuck a .223 rifle in his mouth and tried to kill himself. Little did he know, that only works if it goes into the brain. .223 isn't exactly the largest bullet (size can compensate for bad aim to some degree)

He then used a disintegrator ray to get rid of the .223 rifle before police could arrive to take him into custody. Investigators are still attempting to determine how he managed to get rid of all traces of the disintegrator ray.

if you outlaw disintegrators, only outlaws will disintegrate the wabbit.

Problem is, they shot at the boat while he was inside it.

In other words, they shot at a target they couldn't see.  That is *NEVER* OK.  Ever.  It violates every single police use of deadly force

There is no way that shooting at a completely obscured person is ever constitutional.  The police, at that point, don't have enough information to say whether the person is in fact armed, and they can't say that they have probable cause for, well, *ANYTHING*.  They couldn't even say with 100% certainty that the person in boat was Tsarnaev.  It could have been a runaway or a homeless person for all they knew at that point.

Now, had Tsarnaev been shooting at them at the time, or visibly trying to escape, or even just visibly doing something other than raising his hands in surrender, I'd give them the benefit of the doubt.

Just shooting at a boat that contains an unidentified person in it that they can't see, but they are 80% sure is the guy they are looking for, is not OK.

Ironically, I think that he actually can be rehabilitated.  He is a mostly normal person, who got caught up in his brother's antics.

But that is not how our justice system works, and he'll surely be executed, or possibly get a life sentence in Florence, Colorado.

Between this and the infrared images, this is arguable.  I'm more interested in the typical accuracy of their weapons vs. their results : 0 direct hits, though the did get the boat a few times.

Myria: Ironically, I think that he actually can be rehabilitated. He is a mostly normal person, who got caught up in his brother's antics.

That is just wishful thinking on your( and a lot of other people's) part. His brother may have been the one to go all fanatical, but this is a kid who didn't even try to hide his face as he placed a bomb next to some children. He then went out and partied with his friends like nothing happened before carjacking someone and then lobbing more bombs. His brother's actions at least seem to show some inner turmoil over the actions that he was taking( outbursts in mosque, trying to hide his face, moodiness etc).
He is a sociopath and no one wants to believe it because he's an innocent looking kid.

I'm not talking about this particular case, which is clearly a national story, but stuff like "AMWG" stories (Attractive Missing White Girl), or some relatively minor case of violence that gets blown out of proportion because there is an angle that the news media can work.

That's why everyone is so convinced that the world is such a more dangerous and violent place these days than it ever used to be, when the reality of the situation is that violence has been going down steadily...

dittybopper: PunGent: omnibus_necanda_sunt: Wow, that sure was a fast recovery from a bullet to the neck.

Is that normal, or was there even more media bullshiat out there we'll spend years debunking?

Also, it occurs to me, if he DID shoot himself in the neck, there's a chance a handgun (not a rifle, of course) could still be IN the boat, if the kid dropped it.

I've got a big-ass screwdriver in the bilge of my 25 footer where I dropped it a couple years ago...you'd have to cut the hull apart to get it out, or put a big magnet on something like a plumber's snake...

I'm sure they've either taken that boat apart, or are still in the process of doing so.  If there was a gun there, they would have found it, whether it was in the bilges or not.

You would think so...but never underestimate landlubbers.

Lots of cops around here fish, though, so I bet they thought of it.

dittybopper: PunGent:
Heh, my Dad processed through Devens back in the 50's...he and his squad got housed in barracks that had been condemned as unsafe to hold prisoners from WWII...

Yeah, I bet those were the old wooden "T" barracks we used to do some training in (and by the looks of it on GE, have been torn down).

Back in the mid-80's, when I was there, they still seemed in decent enough condition to temporarily house soldiers, so long as you did traditional stuff like keep a fire watch.  Not that I'd want to live there for any length of time, but it would have been OK for a week or so.

As for holding prisoners?  No, they wouldn't have been secure enough.

Btw, the other thread closed out, I was gonna say, your arrowheads looked pretty good.
A buddy used to know an anthropologist down in RI who knapped arrowheads out of ceramics like old TV magnets, etc...razor sharp.

When ever my wife breaks one of our Pfaltzgraff dishes (Yorktowne pattern, if you must know), I scavenge up the bigger pieces to knap with.  Best material for that, though, is either obsidian, or glass:  They knap the easiest, and they make the sharpest edge, much more sharp than any steel blade.

If you want to start, practice with the bottoms of beer bottles.  Cheap and available material, attractive color (green or brown), and it knaps easier than flint, chert, or dacite.  Busted up porcelain from old toilets is supposed to be another good source.

/sorry for the thread jack.

The toilets, I hear, you've GOT to make sure they're VERY clean, AND wear gloves while you work; good way to catch something nasty.  Never tried it myself.

Well, you've got to wear good thick leather gloves, or use a thick leather pad anyway, because otherwise you will cut your hand to shreds.

You have no idea how easily you can be cut, and if you knap, you will get cut.

They said that lead poisoning might have caused the super high murder rates.

Also people robbing and stealing and screwing people over so they could get money for illegal abortions were a major contributor.
