Yet again Mike Florio hits it out of the ballpark:

"If Smith doesn't return, he'll be confirming in the minds of many that he can't show grit and resolve under pressure. That he'll sink his head and slump his shoulders when the team is 14 points behind in the third quarter. That he'll pout if he's not the starter or if he gets benched. That he'll complain about the use of too many running plays when he prefers to air it out."

Moopy Mac: T-Boy: bsharitt: Lot of offensive linemen in the top 10.

Correct.  Defensive linemen also.  Anyone who understands why some teams (or college conferences) win and others don't should not be surprised by this.  Notice that no running backs were taken in the first round and only one quarterback.  The games are won and lost up front.

Except when your team is Green Bay.

The game is fought in the trenches. Without proper blocking, no one can achieve success. Someone tell this to Mike Brown, owner of the Bengals.

Shot gun boot legs, back shoulder throws, and bubble screens are done every drive in gb. You can win without dominating the trenches.

Jubeebee: I would really like to know what the world is like in Phil Emery's head. McClellin was curious last year, but at least he was rated as first round talent, even though he fits the Bears like high heels on Shaq.

But why Kyle Long? Nobody who picked after Chicago was going to take him at least until day 2, and there were better players at other positions of need on the board. I hope he works out, like I hope McClellin and Jeffery work out, but right now it looks like the Bears exchanged Angelo's tendency to draft pre-injured players for Emery's odd fascination with white guys from out west.

Another puzzling pick.  I don't have a problem with the player selected but certainly with the round he was selected in.  Seems to be quite a reach and as you said there were better players who could have also filled needs still available.  However, we can't forget that the O line has sucked for a while now, so I don't hate the pick at all.  But it was unexpected and he very well may have been there in rounds 2 or 3.

/I wanted Eifert or Arthur Brown

Yet over the last several years (including when GB won the Super Bowl), their offensive line was not even in the top half of the NFL when it comes to performance.

The Bengals probably have the best defensive line in the NFL. And their offensive line is at least top half.

Nobodyn0se: jayhawk88: CipollinaFan: Incorrigible Astronaut: abhorrent1: LMAO at Gino Smith. He's gonna be a PITA to whoever drafts him.

His body language last night was all you needed to know about why he fell. I don't remember Rodgers ever slipping into hangdog mode when he slipped.

And now he is not going to even show up tonight.
What a good way to show your potential employers how you handle adversity.

Is there any reason why he should show up tonight? They don't parade guys across stage after the first round, do they?

They go across the stage if they're actually at the RCMH, no matter what round they go in. Last year there were a couple guys who walked on stage in the second round, if I remember correctly.

It's not standard practice, as the NFL only invites certain prospects. It's not like a 7th round projected pick can go sit in that room Coby Fleener last year did it, but they were projecting him to go in the first round.

The Bengals have some talent, but the problem is Mike Brown. He literally doesn't want them in the playoffs because he has to pay the players out of his own pocket instead of using team funds to pay them, he's the cheapest owner in the league. I'm shocked they landed Harrison who is only coming to Cincy to have his career fade away.

I'm like Randy Quaid from Major League where even when my team is winning, I'm biatching like a little girl. It's from being the chew toy for Shiatsburgh and the Baltimore Lewis' for the past 20 years.

Well even when they do win, they still don't win playoff games.

That's exactly what he did when things weren't going his way during the K-State, Texas Tech, and Syracuse games. I can understand not wanting to come back, but it was the way he pouted once it hit pick 10 or so and walked off early while not giving interviews when ESPN and Fox requested it. It would've been a great opportunity to say, "Yeah, it's disappointing, but you know what? This is just making me hungrier than ever, and whoever picks me is going to get the best QB in the draft."

What he wants is for his team to do well enough to get the wild card and lose in the first round.  He's the best owner in football by every metric he uses for evaluation.

I can not believe that I didn't get selected in the first round. At this point, I'm hoping to be selected dead-last. I'll be Mr. Irrellevant. I don't care.

Some owners really want to win football games. And you can generally tell who they are because they're in the playoffs regularly. Other owners don't give a rat's ass about football, they just had the billions it took to buy in to a money factory. And you can generally tell those teams by their records.

Brown and that ass in Carolina especially -- they barely even maintain the pretense of competition with their teams. And that's A-OK by them.

Doesn't help that GB got worse when Bulaga went down, even though their false start penalties also dropped IIRC

As sad as that sounds, it's also kinda neat that he got to live his dream before the cancer got him. That's a lot better than most cancer victims.

HST's Dead Carcass: Teo is nothing special, he was riding the hype wave all year, then everything blew up in his face. The BCS National Championship showed Notre Dame to be a medicore team with a somewhat creampuff schedule, and they got lucky, really lucky. I didn't think they should be in the NC, but they got there, and an SEC team put them in their place. During the game, Teo was a non-entity on the field and a distraction off the field. He'll be this year's Tebow, but without the inflated draft pick, the entire league learned their lesson with Tebow. He'll be lucky to be a 4th rounder at this point.

Geno is a stereotypical sore winner. He's been successful and everything has been handed to him, now his draft prospect is falling and he's all but hurt about it. Yes, it can be embarrassing, but part of being a National Sports Personality is how you handle yourself in adversity. I simply point to Vince Young as proof of how NOT to act. If he doesn't get an attitude change, he'll be the next VY in the league, and believe me, we need people like VY to point and laugh at. And, that's not the worst case scenario, because we still need Ja'Marcus Russell's and Ryan Leaf's joining the league, too.

Honey Badger. Hahahaha. Undersized safety with drug, alcohol and personality isues that spent the last year out of football and finding God.... then throws a Draft Party?!?!? He's just not learning, or at least has the cognitive dissonance to not understand why this is such a bad idea. I'm merely hoping that's an internet meme and not a real thing, otherwise he may not even get an invite to workout with teams after not being drafted. Think Marcus Vick without the prototypical body or mindset. Tyrann Mathieu is a hot mess, even after spending a year getting his head right (which obviously didn't work if he's throwing a party), and should just get used to delivering Pizza's or busting suds in a kitchen somewhere because he doesn't have the personality to really achieve anything, and g ...

It's sad knowing that the only reason ND was in that position was because they were handed games by the officials, the likes of which I haven't seen since watching Hawaii receive no fewer than three FREE wins on their way to a BCS bowl game blowout.

And, really, I'd have been upset about it, but after the fiasco/embarrassment that was the 2011 college football season, I don't really care anymore.

Mike Florio is talking?

I remember when he publicly embarrassed himself by using pretty much the EXACT SAME SET OF CIRCUMSTANCES to tell us that a) Jay Cutler is treated way too harshly, and b) Aaron Rodgers is an asshole. Then, he DEFENDED that stupidity, until finally so many people jumped his shiat that he sort-of took it back.
