As someone who is so old I can remember the launch of MTV and also every single milestone in its decline, this pleases me.  It's fitting it has ended up as nothing more than a clearinghouse for reality TV shows that need to be marketed to stupid children.  The Networks have cornered the market on reality shows for stupid adults.

Is Kurt Loder still pretending he's an important journalist?  That was sad when he started, and even sadder when he continued.

Look MTV, we know that music videos aren't your M.O. anymore, but would it hurt you to bring us another season of Beavis & Butthead?

It's easy to be fun.  Be fun.
Leave drama, social commentary, smart comedy and everything else to people with the vision to make it work.  Just be fun.  Please like fun.

Last time I watched much MTV, Martha Quinn was there, and Peter Gabriel's 'Sledgehammer' was played every 10 minutes.

MTV used to play music videos, but now, MTV is rock 'n roll itself. They're punk. Old people hate MTV. MTV has no redeeming values. Rock music is played out, anyway. There's a good here or there, but admit it, is Arcade Fire something to get excited about? Mumford and Sons?

MTV hasn't done a damn thing right since the Maxx, and they farked that up too. One season?! C'mon!

He should have played a Vulcan in Star Trek. Dat superior smarmy eyebrow.

A Scream series could be a lot of fun on HBO or Showtime or Starz, or even AMC or FX. Unfortunately it's on MTV so, you know, they'll probably Teen Wolf it.

Dear Jerk: MTV used to play music videos

Yes, we know, how many more times is this dead horse going to be flogged? Let's face it, music videos aren't interesting enough to sustain a whole network forever. That's why the MTV you all wax nostalgic about was doomed to be a flash in the pan from the start, and it's amazing they got away with it for as long as they did. It was boring enough when the musicians played "real" instruments (oooh, there's a guy on a guitar, and a guy drumming, and it's all coming into my living room via a 13" screen and cheap speakers! It's exactly like I'm at a concert!!). Sure, on occasion you'd get a video like Thriller that wasn't boring because the label spent big bucks on special effects, but those were the exceptions. Any counterexample you submit is just your brain filtering the past through rose-colored lenses. Of course you only remember the good videos, it's because your brain has blocked out all the crap videos that dominated!

Then when music that used "real" instruments went away and everything became synthesized it became even more boring to watch, because now all you had were people "singing". And by "singing", of course I mean "painfully obvious lip synching with exaggerated mouth movements". What was up with that wide-mouthed style of lip synching that almost every singer did even from the beginning? It's like the directors of those videos felt that normal lip syncing was too subtle, the singer had to open his mouth like a Muppet in order to grab the viewer's attention. "Wha! I'm awake! There's a guy on TV with a Muppet mouth! I'm paying attention!" And of course these mouth movements almost never matched perfectly the studio recording that was dubbed over. What didja expect, your singer has a goddamn Muppet mouth on camera, it kinda breaks the intended illusion that I'm really watching him sing.

Blah blah blah, fast forward 30 years and now there are many more cable channels competing for a slice of the audience pie, and of course now we have the Internet where I can watch any music video I want anytime on YouTube. So why do I need a TV channel devoted to broadcasting that stuff 24 hours a day? Who really is demanding that? If you were given the choice, would you really pay extra on your cable bill to have your precious MTV of ye olden days back? Well sorry, even if you say yes you're still a tiny minority I reckon. So get over your minority status already and quit yer biatchin'.

The pilot green light is suprising, given the fact that there is no specific concept or a writer for the adaptation yet.

I think a TV show based on a vague, unspecified idea is sure to be a winner!

It became an embarrasing commentary on society when their Buttheads comments on MTV's current shows seemed witty compared to the old days.

Bo burnham was given a show by MTV so they're doing something right.

If you don't know who that is then go watch his special words words words which is also streaming on Netflix

They could go a lot of interesting ways with the concept.  Unfortunately it's going to be on MTV... Picture a Dawson's Creek/Harpers Island mash-up.  That said, this won't be nearly as a cool as it needs to be.

Everytime I hear about a new show on any cable network I am just a little more happy about my decision to drop cable/sat. Why would anyone actually pay good money to watch this mind rotting shiat.

I guess you could say MTV was "rock'n'roll", but since around the late '90s-early '00s it's been mostly (with a few exceptions) the 13-16 year old girl network. I was in high school during that time and remember thinking overall the channel was pretty lame. And that for maybe the first time the previous generation's music was actually cooler than the current one's. I'm not feeling too nostalgic for N'Sync and Britney Spears.

Hey, I've seen that on Netflix. That's easily the best show MTV has done in years, if EVER.

I liked it, anyway,

As a huge fan of Jersey Shore, I can't farking wait for Snooki and Jwoww's show. The Scream show sounds stupid though.

How would a Scream tv series work anyways? Would there be a different killer every season? The town Sidney is from is only so big.

That wasn't "good". It was "faptastic for 20-22 year old Jim".

All that I ever see on there now is Ridiculousness marathons.   I also watched the Buck Wild marathon, where everybody got laid by somebody else in their little group of friends except for the chubby guy that died in his truck.

Also, The Hard Times of RJ Berger is better then I though it would be on Netflix.

As long as they keep Awkward. on TV, I'm OK with MTV existing.

I tried watching that show, it's a painfully un-funny version of Tosh.0, recycled vid clips & all. That chick that's on the show makes me want to puncture my eardrums every time she laughs.

Now they're being re-regurgitated again on whatever Shaq's trying to do with that stupid Upload show.
