spinach gunk: tigerose: Spinach Gunk I think you are doing a wonderful job with Buddy. You really seem to have a good understanding of may/not be done. Follow your heart. He dwells there, and will lead you on the right path. And yes, it is all about our furry friends!

*Kisses*  Thanks tigerose.

I am working on superimposing your poem onto the photo, but may not finish it until a little later -- dog needs walking, I need a shower, and today marks 5 years of wedded bliss for me and Mr. Gunk!  We're going out to dinner!  So I will post it a little later.  :)

John Buck 41: spinach gunk: Mmm, used sweat socks....Used sweat socks, milk that's gone bad, put them all in a blender and whattaya got? Blue Cheese Dressing. The most horrid, nastiest food I can think of, and believe me the bar is pretty damn high.

Nope, not even close - try baccalà some time (not that I could ever bring myself to eat it, the smell alone is basically a combination of 16 dozen 6 month old unchanged sweat socks, year old unwashed jock straps, with a healthy dose of essence of constipated ass gas. Boiled on the stove for hours. My ex's family used to make it every Christmas Eve as it was an Italian tradition, until I refused to step foot in the house unless they abolished it).

Seriously, my eyes would actually start to water every time I got within a mile of that smell...

Diocletian's Last Cabbage: lilyspad: [i.imgur.com image 444x566]

Funny you should mention bears...

Met my parents last Thursday for dinner and help with the shopping, abd they told me about a visitor they had the other night.  Apparently, a black bear that lives near their house came over the other night and, A) took a big beer dump on the lawn in front of their living room air conditioner box and, B) took a swipe at their above-ground pool with his paw.  Wrecked the pool and flooded the backyard.  Big mess!

They used to have a golden retriever named Friday that was very protective of them.  Barked at and ran the same black bear (we think) out of their backyard years ago.  Very fearless, but she passed away a couple of years ago, so now just any bear or salesman can come up to the house.  Intolerable!

And now, off to get my haircut and drunk.

PS - OH ALIENNNNNN!  WHERE ARE UUUUUU?

You're going to get your hair drunk???  How does that even work???  :D

It was a...

It was a dark and rainy night.
My brothers and I are all alone.

Mom said she would
Go out to hunt,
But she never returned.

I miss her warmth,
Fine tongue making my
Fur behave.

She was comfort,
Food.
Security.

She is gone.

Now we huddle in this alley.
Tired,
Afraid.

Soaked through,
Filthy.
Hopeless.

Behind a trash bin we hide.
When human foot steps softly,
Invade.

Fright.

People can feed,
People can hurt.
We have seen it.

This one stops.
Speaks softly,
Reaches down.

I am.
Drawn.
Trembling.

I slink out of the shadows,
Bedraggled.
Sniff.

A warm hand sleeks my head,
A voice softly murmers.
Promises.

I accept,
And the moment,
Is caught.

For all time.

We are safe.

spinach gunk: yobbery: spinach gunk: Buddy sez Jack can share his Little Green Bunny, is nice to has a fuzzy when you don't feel so good.

How is the Budster this week?

He's OK, thanks.  He's been doing very well on the prednisone, but we've been gradually stepping down the dose to bring the trial period to a gentle close.  He's still quite all right, but is noticeably pickier about food and seems more tired with the decreased dose.  We saw the vet on Tuesday for a followup.  Says once we're done with this round of prednisone, we'll monitor him closely to see how he does, but won't put him back on it just yet.  As long as he's eating and pooping all right, we don't need to do much.  Too much pred can damage his system.

This type of cancer of the anal gland is not easy to know what to do with.  It can spread quickly, meaning that by the time the rectal tumour is large enough to be discovered, it's probably already begun to make its way elsewhere in the body.  Surgical removal of the tumour isn't a bad idea, but the chance of quick recurrence is very high, and there is a very real chance he could lose total control of his bowel movements (which I don't mind, I have no problem looking after that kind of thing, but the few times he's ever had accidents in the house he's been so mortified and upset with himself that I think daily occurrences of uncontrolled poop would break his heart).  Then he would need radiation therapy after that.  Chemotherapy is a less invasive option, but is not a cure, and is not guaranteed to improve his prognosis very much.  The cost/benefit ratio both types of treatments is frustratingly un-encouraging.

So, we are going to wait and see for a little while before deciding exactly what to do next.  I haven't totally ruled anything out.  On the outside, Buddy looks pretty good, he's nice & plump and his fur is soft & shiny.  He still enjoys walkies and treats and snuggles.  He'll go back to the vet once a month to get his anal glands expressed to keep things ...

Bestest of luck to you and little Buddy!!!  Sending good hopes!!!  :D

LMAO

The sad thing is Mrs. Buck likes it so there is always a bottle of the vile bile in our fridge. I don't even like touching the damn thing.

I've made deviled eggs using bleu cheese dressing...
It's called "We're outta mayo, we're outta ranch dressing and I HAVE to figure out something for lunches (read: IMPROVISE. FAST.)." Chopped up some onion extremely fine to add to the mix...went over very well, actually. :-)
Although if they'd had their druthers, the guys would have preferred ranch dressing (another improvisation that worked surprisingly well).
