Greetings to all.. TGIC.... Fat Feral Fred was fired up this evening.. waiting at the gate when I got home.. belly rubs ensued, accompanied by purrs and light drooling... tossed him the catnip bag and watched him romp all over the yard.. I think he told me to cut the damned grass... difficult to interpret sometimes... it will get done this weekend anyway... also seeding the front and side yard....
 We did get started early tonight.. this was the only entry that had a comment.. also 2 votes... I think the votes are the key....  hope sherpa and Alien join us.. also Haruko...

Yay, Caturday!
Been looking forward to this.

Need to take pictures of Lola and her new haircut. When I told the groomer at my vet office that I wanted her to have a lion cut, she took me literally. Now Lola the lion is prancing around and is now almost...social, you know, in her own fashion. She's still a neurotic mess, but at least she doesn't smell like shiat any more.

Strange Quotes about Cats & Teenagers:
For all of you with teenagers or who had teenagers, you may want to know why they really have a lot in common with cats:
1. Neither teenagers nor cats turn their heads when you call them by name.
2. No matter what you do for them, it is not enough. Indeed, all humane efforts are barely adequate to compensate for the privilege of waiting on them hand and foot.
3. You rarely see a cat walking outside of the house with an adult human being, and it can be safely said that no teenager in his or her right mind wants to be seen in public with his or her parents.
4. Cats and teenagers can lie on the living-room sofa for hours on end without moving, barely breathing.
5. Cats have nine lives. Teenagers carry on as if they did.

Puki is gone, and I don't expect to see him alive again. I opened the door to leave for work this morning, and realized I'd forgotten my phone, so I turned around...
He ran out the door, down the stairs, and across the Cat Eating Highway like he had planned it. This afternoon when I got home, I walked a half-mile up and down the hill calling him with no response.
The good news is, I didn't find him dead.
The bad news is, I didn't find him at all.

Oh no...  You never know, he may have made it to the other side but is too scared to cross the road to get home.  Fingers crossed for his safe return.  Maybe try searching for him again after dark when traffic is light enough that he can hear you shake a bag of treats.  Good luck.  And big hugs.

Unfortunately, my "neighborhood" consists of about 5 people per square mile. The coyotes are thicker. Hell, I've had bear on my yard and mountain lions spotted down the hill.
Combined with the hillbilly freeway outside my door (which I've seen kill 8 cats in 100 yards), it's just not a cat friendly environment. More so when the cat has little outdoor experience.

So sorry for your worrying time, but all may not be lost - I once had a fur buddy disappear in similar circumstances and he came back very hungry 12 days later. I don't think he even looked outside again for about a year.

Hopes & hugs.

MaudlinMutantMollusk: yobbery: MaudlinMutantMollusk: Puki is gone,

I can relate to how you feel right now, but it's too soon to give up. Keep your eye out for him and put posters up in the neighborhood if you can.

/I want to be hopeful, but I know what the realities are
//all I can do is hope he's safe and happy somewhere
///I have to or I start crying

Sending out good thoughts and vibes, also.

Go home, Puki!

So that's the conversation between me and my husband last night before I went searching for the first-aid kit. CSB TL;DR LOL OMG:

So we bought a used washer and dryer since we're a bit broke and just moved to a place that has hookups for such. The washer plugged in just fine, but the dryer had a 4-prong plug and the wall was 3-prong. So I bought a 3-prong cable, and last night pulled out the toolbox and prepared to spend hours changing them out. Surprise, it was a simple ten-minute job, and nothing caught fire, got electrocuted, or broken. Hurrah! So I sent my victory text as I pulled out the bits to hook up the exhaust vent. Well, I didn't have good light and I wasn't quite paying attention, so in trying to connect the vent tubing my hand slipped and I sorta "punched" the dryer port. The aluminum, very SHARP port. "Whoops," I thought to myself, "it doesn't go like that. Well, I'll just try- Hunh, my hand's leaking." I sent the second text and spent the next ten minutes figuring out where the hell I'd misplaced the first aid kit. Bonus: holding a pressure bandage on my hand as I wandered the aisles at the store within walking distance (luckily still open at that time at night) looking for neosporin and bandages.

I must be a bit broken, because I giggled like a doofus the entire time, especially when the hubby got home later that night and helped me apply a better dressing. It won't be a buy-me-a-beer type of scar, but it will be one that makes people go, "how did you manage that?" I got a fairly good pic of it a few minutes after it happened that has made two people cringe so far; a nifty V-shaped gouge just above the third knuckle on my right index finger that was a b*tch to bandage properly. :P

Ah well, we have a functional washer and dryer now, which makes Sassy very happy, as his favorite place to sleep is in a laundry basket full of (clean or dirty) clothes.

i60.photobucket.com

Speaking of, time to run another load. Trying to get dishes washed may be another thing, I don't think I've got any gloves under the sink. I think I'll let my husband deal with that for the next couple of days, as I'm worried about breaking a glass and slicing myself open again. :D

UPDATE: CAT WARS: RETURN OF THE PUKI
Round 1
Unable to sit still, I kept going out and walking around calling my little lost pal about every 10 minutes. Around 8:30, I spotted a movement in the brush across the road, and Puk trotted out into the road. Fortunately, there was a rare break in the traffic.
So I coaxed him across the rest of the way, and he decided to be an idiot an run around every direction but towards me. But at least I knew the little sh*tbird was still alive.
After about 5 minutes of calling and pleading, I got him to come within reach and grabbed him by the scruff of the neck and gathered him into my arms. Just then, 4 cars in a row came screaming down the hillbilly highway at about 60 MPH (this is 10 feet away from me) and sent him into full cat-sh*t panic. I tried to endure the pain of my ripped flesh, but I failed. Torn from elbow to fingertip, and wearing a newly shredded t-shirt, I had to let go, and he was gone again in an instant.
End of round 1.
Round 2.
I knew the little bastard was still close by, so I kept going out and walking around calling. Once again, I heard his familiar plaintive mew, and spotted him at the neighbors door looking at me and crying. Now, why that dumbass cat goes to the wrong door and then cries to me next door is a complete other mystery, but I digress...
After another 10 minutes of coaxing, cajoling, and generally making myself sound like a complete idiot to anyone listening, I managed to get hold of him again, and before anything else sent him into hysterics, get him back in the house.
End of round 2.

So... to recap...

Puki is safe at home again for the nonce.
I'm having a drink and trying to staunch the bleeding. Right hand got the worst of it, but both hands and arms sustained serious damage.
I discovered that I need to pick up some bandaids tomorrow.

/thank you all for your good wishes and thoughts; I have to admit I was pretty upset over that dumbass cat
//now... anyone want to donate blood?

Hello everybodeee!

 ^-^

MaudlinMutantMollusk: Puki goes walkabout :-(
/I think my little buddy is gone forever
//I has a really serious sad right now

Puki...turn your furry little arse around, look BOTH ways, ask your mother's (Bast) blessing, and GET HOME!
~~~~~
I don't think my neighbor's cats are getting enough to eat. They look OK, but the way Abbey hit some scraps I'd tossed out into the yard for birds made me wonder. Then there's my lot; so pampered and catered-to that they can afford to have preferences with their gushyfud treats (the 'delicate' sauce is favorite, and the 'savory' sauce is a waste of time).
I wish there was something I could do so D'Artagnan would be a happier kitty...stay home a bit more, and get along better with his clowdermates. I bend over backwards for him to let him know he's loved and wanted; attention on HIS terms when he's home, his own treats (he gets sauteed chicken breast because he doesn't like gushyfud), catnip...I don't know what to do. It's like I have 3.5 cats...he comes home about once a day or so, eats, drinks, picks up his messages and is gone again. He wants nothing to do with his clowder mates, and rarely anything to do with me.
It's easier to love someone when they're THERE, you know?
...aaannnnd onto page 2...
Get some Butterfly bandages, they work great for cuts like that. Short of stitches that's your best bet for a gouge.
Hope it heals clean and WOOT!! for getting a washer/dryer, that's a really good feeling to not have to drag clothes to the laundromat (I'd rather spend time on the wrong end of an artillery range than go to another laundromat in this lifetime).
ArmednHammered: Get some Butterfly bandages, they work great for cuts like that. Short of stitches that's your best bet for a gouge.
The hubby said the same thing, and I very nearly needed stitches. It wouldn't be a bad idea, but it wasn't deep/long enough, and I opened up my hand at 10:30 last night, so I didn't think that it was serious enough to warrant me trying to drive around with half a hand looking for an ER or something. With my luck I'd end up in the ER because some chucklehead would run into me, necessitating an ambulance run. I was totally channeling Tim the Toolman Taylor last night. :-\
Hope it heals clean and WOOT!! for getting a washer/dryer, that's a really good feeling to not have to drag clothes to the laundromat (I'd rather spend time on the wrong end of an artillery range than go to another laundromat in this lifetime).
Ick. I always feel bad for dogs who are good-natured and energetic but have terrible owners who can't teach them basic discipline and outdoors social skills. :(
Thank you so much. :)
Almost... I genuinely considered using superglue, but we didn't have any, and IIRC, it's a bad thing to put in an open wound. Though I HAVE stapled myself once before. I am such a hazard to my own health.
MaudlinMutantMollusk: UPDATE: CAT WARS: RETURN OF THE PUKI
Round 1
Unable to sit still, I kept going out and walking around calling my little lost pal about every 10 minutes. Around 8:30, I spotted a movement in the brush across the road, and Puk trotted out into the road. Fortunately, there was a rare break in the traffic.
So I coaxed him across the rest of the way, and he decided to be an idiot an run around every direction but towards me. But at least I knew the little sh*tbird was still alive.
After about 5 minutes of calling and pleading, I got him to come within reach and grabbed him by the scruff of the neck and gathered him into my arms. Just then, 4 cars in a row came screaming down the hillbilly highway at about 60 MPH (this is 10 feet away from me) and sent him into full cat-sh*t panic. I tried to endure the pain of my ripped flesh, but I failed. Torn from elbow to fingertip, and wearing a newly shredded t-shirt, I had to let go, and he was gone again in an instant.
End of round 1.
Round 2.
I knew the little bastard was still close by, so I kept going out and walking around calling. Once again, I heard his familiar plaintive mew, and spotted him at the neighbors door looking at me and crying. Now, why that dumbass cat goes to the wrong door and then cries to me next door is a complete other mystery, but I digress...
After another 10 minutes of coaxing, cajoling, and generally making myself sound like a complete idiot to anyone listening, I managed to get hold of him again, and before anything else sent him into hysterics, get him back in the house.
End of round 2.
So... to recap...
Puki is safe at home again for the nonce.
I'm having a drink and trying to staunch the bleeding. Right hand got the worst of it, but both hands and arms sustained serious damage.
I discovered that I need to pick up some bandaids tomorrow.
/thank you all for your good wishes and thoughts; I have to admit I was pretty upset over that dumbass cat
//now... anyone want to donate blood?
Happy Caturday, everyone!
Target went to the vet for her first visit on Monday. She definitely had something going on in her eye, but some antibiotic ointment took care of it in short order. The vet also thinks that she's maybe 5-6 weeks old, not 6-8 weeks. Either way, she's doing just fine. She has, however, chewed through the cord of my earbuds. I'm thinking that the best way to get rich is to invent cat-proof earbuds. :D
And now, it's time to play Spot the Cat!i81.photobucket.com
My little girl cat, Tola, is at the vet today for a dental cleaning. Apparently her little heart beat is racing though, and they're doing a thyroid test before continuing to put her under for the cleaning. She was so scared to go this morning, huddled as small as can be and yowling her head off. Hard to believe a six pound cat can be so loud! So now I'm just worried at work! Hope my baby girl is okay.
Riktor had his teeth cleaned last year...after all the stuff I've read here (and I THANK YOU for sharing it!), I figured we could head a LOT of health issues off at the pass by doing so.
They did blood work beforehand, just to make certain he could tolerate the sedation (he was 10 at the time)...he came through with flying colors. Forgave me the minute we got home, too.
You're doing a Good Thing for Tola...even if she has her doubts about it...
She's had to have several teeth removed, so its a once a year thing now. She's been much happier since some of those bad, painful teeth are gone. Haven't heard any news, but I'm assuming no news is good news and she's getting her teeth cleaned now with no thyroid problems! Also make sure that you are current with your Tetanus shots.  They supposedly last 10 years, but if it has been 7 or 8 years or more since your last one it might be an excellent idea to get another one!  I heard about  a fellow who came down with Tetanus even though his last immunization was 8 or 9 years earlier.  (This was from a credible source -- a Veterinarian friend)
Advice please.  It's 22:12 here so too late to call the vet, but my boy Henry has a lump on his back, right between his shoulder blades.  I've just noticed it while giving scritches.  It's about 1.5" round, about 0.5" high, right under the surface of the skin but doesn't seem to be attached to anything underneath.  He's not concerned by it and not in pain. Anyone else seen this on their furbuddy?  Insect bite of some kind?
Sounds like it could be a cyst. I wouldn't worry to much about it for now but it would be good idea to make a vet appt. tomorrow to get it checked out if it's still bothering you.
Not to be scary, but where does Henry usually get his vaccinations?  It could be a cyst, but you also want to be sure that it isn't VAS (vaccine associated sarcoma)  It is very important to be sure that when your cat receives a vaccination it is given in the leg, not the scruff of the neck.  It has be the accepted protocol for vets for over 15 years, but not everyone follows the protocol because it is so much easier to give the injection in the scruff.
So it looks like Tola may have hyper thyroidism. We're sending her blood work out to get a definitive answer. I see pills are an option, but both of my cats hate their mouths being touched, and she's a bit skittish already. Has anyone done the surgery or radioactive iodine treatment, or know about them? I know its early yet, but more information never hurts from first hand experiences.
Cysts may or may not be painful. Is he an only cat? Occasionally my two have fought where a tooth or claw broke the skin of the other and an abscess formed. A couple were sore but some were not, especially if it was almost healed by the time I felt it.
Spiralmonkey: Advice please.  It's 22:12 here so too late to call the vet, but my boy Henry has a lump on his back, right between his shoulder blades.  I've just noticed it while giving scritches.  It's about 1.5" round, about 0.5" high, right under the surface of the skin but doesn't seem to be attached to anything underneath.  He's not concerned by it and not in pain. Anyone else seen this on their furbuddy?  Insect bite of some kind?
Is that where they give his shots? Could be reaction to it. Might also be a fat deposit but is sounds almost too big for that. Not emergency but would call vet office when they're open and find out where they give shots.
RadicalEd: So it looks like Tola may have hyper thyroidism. We're sending her blood work out to get a definitive answer. I see pills are an option, but both of my cats hate their mouths being touched, and she's a bit skittish already. Has anyone done the surgery or radioactive iodine treatment, or know about them? I know its early yet, but more information never hurts from first hand experiences.
Sherpa is a big help with hyperthyroidism.
My cat is hyperthyroid (Dx 2 months ago). She is on methiamazole and I actually dilute it in a tad bit of water and mix it in with her canned food. No issues :)
Should be dissolve (brain fried). Doesn't take a whole lot. I have a 3 cc oral syringe, usually put about 1/2 cc in and put the pill in :)
Just in from a very nice horseback ride. I used the outdoor arena today. Wet, but nice. Mmm...vitamin D!
spiralmonkeysounds like a cyst to me. After your vet trip, let us know, ok? I have had indoor/outdoor cats get those after a fight.
I think we have a winner. He got his shots last week. He's never had a reaction before so maybe the vet used a different manufacturer or something. I'm going to get him an appointment anyway just to be on the safe side.
MaudlinMutantMollusk: UPDATE: CAT WARS: RETURN OF THE PUKI
Round 1
Unable to sit still, I kept going out and walking around calling my little lost pal about every 10 minutes. Around 8:30, I spotted a movement in the brush across the road, and Puk trotted out into the road. Fortunately, there was a rare break in the traffic.
So I coaxed him across the rest of the way, and he decided to be an idiot an run around every direction but towards me. But at least I knew the little sh*tbird was still alive.
After about 5 minutes of calling and pleading, I got him to come within reach and grabbed him by the scruff of the neck and gathered him into my arms. Just then, 4 cars in a row came screaming down the hillbilly highway at about 60 MPH (this is 10 feet away from me) and sent him into full cat-sh*t panic. I tried to endure the pain of my ripped flesh, but I failed. Torn from elbow to fingertip, and wearing a newly shredded t-shirt, I had to let go, and he was gone again in an instant.
End of round 1.
Round 2.
I knew the little bastard was still close by, so I kept going out and walking around calling. Once again, I heard his familiar plaintive mew, and spotted him at the neighbors door looking at me and crying. Now, why that dumbass cat goes to the wrong door and then cries to me next door is a complete other mystery, but I digress...
After another 10 minutes of coaxing, cajoling, and generally making myself sound like a complete idiot to anyone listening, I managed to get hold of him again, and before anything else sent him into hysterics, get him back in the house.
End of round 2.
So... to recap...
Puki is safe at home again for the nonce.
I'm having a drink and trying to staunch the bleeding. Right hand got the worst of it, but both hands and arms sustained serious damage.
I discovered that I need to pick up some bandaids tomorrow.
/thank you all for your good wishes and thoughts; I have to admit I was pretty upset over that dumbass cat
//now... anyone want to donate blood?
That is good to hear! Remember to get some neosporin, too!
A couple of days ago I was squeezing some lemons, Suzy was right there to help (as she always is when I'm in the kitchen).
I lowered my hand so she could get a good sniff and she decided to give the lemon a little try. After a few seconds of smacking her lips and thinking it was not too bad, she gave my hand a big ol slurp.
I wish I was able to get her reaction on video. She was clearly shocked and not amused. I however, was highly amused.
What a not amused Suzy might look like.
Cysts, rampant hyperthyroid & mistaken linkie to another cat thread.  This one's about 5 down from top on main pg at moment: "911, what's your emergency?" "The neighbor's kittens are doing it in my yard." Just in time for Caturday?  37 comments there, ought not to have been the one.  Was another yesterday before I was able to find real  Caturday, that's no longer there.  Don't even recall now what the point of it was.
Had hoped Those In Charge of the local amateur radio club'd give me that number I wish to drop in. But it's Fri eve so they're out enjoying themselves, or working some exotic foreign contact it'll take 3 years to get the QSL card back from --
I need that.  Three.  was a not so fun day today.
I had a call from a coworker in Seattle.  he tells me that he had dinner with the client and she commented about me.  Seems she heard that one of her employees was talking to me and he told her that 'she had 3 glasses of wine'.    well, excuse me.  I am AT HOME....it is my house, it is my free time, I will have a glass of wine on MY TIME.  I don't give a rats ass if you call me or not, it is MY FREE TIME.
I was not happy to hear the condescending tone in coworker's voice, he knew it.  I am beyond ticked.
My VP (of my group) is in town next week.  She will be in the office on the 30th.  convenient.  May be layoffs.  I am fully expecting it.
Yeah, I am ticked.  I'm going to wallow tonight, get up in the morning and go for a 2.5 mile walk (at least) and start to work on ME.
Boys got their Barkbox this week. Dyson (who hurt his leg last week) is doing better.
L33t Squirrel: ... as I wandered the aisles at the store within walking distance (luckily still open at that time at night) looking for neosporin and bandages. I must be a bit broken, because I giggled like a doofus the entire time...
I guess I must be broken too, since your story made me laugh like a loon. And reminded me of the time I was washing one of the ex's martini glasses and somehow the base snapped off and the stem of the glass lodged in the back of my hand ... and just stood there. The ex walked in and I turned to her and held out my hand like a butler and asked if she would like to try a bloody martini instead of a dirty one. I will never forget the look I got for that comment...still have a perfect circular scar from that.
Sorry for your 'pissy" day...I agree with you on theat home business.  Last I heard, alcohol was legal to consume in your own home, as long as it doesn't affect your work...who gives a shiat????
