Tatsuma: aelat: He was said to be 6 feet tall, 130 pounds, with short, dark hair.

It's possible the guy starved to death.

Yeah I'm still calling bullshiat on that one, 130 pounds at 6? That sounds physically impossible for a healthy guy.

6' and 135 here.  If I take a large shiat I can get down to 130 sometimes so its not that hard to believe.

It actually sounds about close to right for a lot of Indian guys around here.  I wouldn't blink at just under 6' and almost 150.  140 is believable.  Throw in his depression and I'd accept ~130.

2013-04-25 01:43:32 PM

Tatsuma: Esroc: You aren't the only one who got swept up in it. I was following the police scanner and as soon as they mentioned Sunil's name I jumped on the bandwagon, only to wake up a few hours later and find out it was all bullshiat.

I was listening to the scanner and I still don't know where you people got Sunil's name as a suspect. I never heard such a thing, and there is no way the police ever would have named the suspect over unprotected airwaves like that.

That's why I repeatedly told people to shut the fark up about it in the live threads, seeing as the earlier pictures of the track athlete had also been debunked.

There were a few of us in those threads that had been listening to the scanner feed all night that were telling people that at no time had they mentioned Sunil's name.  But people kept at it.  It's easy to get caught up in the crowd mentality and equally as difficult to try to step back from it to gain some clarity.  Don't beat yourself up over it - the fact that you feel bad is telling as to what kind of person you are.

Tatsuma: A Shambling Mound: I get why this sort of thing would bother you but then again, this isn't even "this sort of thing". The kid was probably dead before his picture ever got published.

Or do you just want to cry because of how easily you found yourself swept up in and participating in a torrent of disinformation and bad detective work? I can understand that I suppose.

The pain of the family is first and foremost what makes me want to cry. Being swept up in this makes me want to punch myself.

What I find really farked up is that the family had been looking for their son for a month then, and Reddit got on the case, called him a terrorist and enemy #1 of America, they ended up on the receiving end of death threats as well as having to deal with their missing son, and today they have to deal with burying him.

That family is going to be farked up for a long time now.

The only way to avoid making mistakes is to never do anything. Hell, this mistake never even killed anyone who wasn't already dead, and I'm willing to forgive quite a few mistakes that have, especially mistakes that were made because all available evidence at the time showed that more people would die if the mistake wasn't made.

/the problem is that we've become such fragile snowflakes that we can't deal with a reality that isn't as pre-scripted as a comic book
//or, for that matter, withstand the existence of mean comments on the internet

lol

That guy with the blue jacket and the backpack with the gray strap reinforcers that matched the shredded bag originally alleged to be one of the bomb-carriers... I wonder if he shiat his self? I saw his "bad hair day" picture everywhere for a day or two. I wonder if he crapped every time he saw a cop.

I also wonder if he was a casualty...

mark625: Subby FAIL.

How do you figure he was dead before the bombings, if he was seen on the morning of April 16th? He may have been dead before the online mobbing took place, which would at least absolve those who partook in that exercise in douchery from causing his death.

But still, jeez, media accuracy (or lack of it) is the topic of the day. You could at least get your headline correct! RTFA next time.

MARCH.  March 16th.  Not April.

I'm guessing he was dead within hours of leaving the "goodbye cruel world" note in his room.

That's when you go to the police and have a preemptive discussion with them.  If it had been me in the picture, I'd head to the station ASAP with an attorney in tow.

This is exactly how this crap happens everyday.  Someone mistakes a month and next thing you know you're the subject of a major terror investigation.

There's a line between "making a mistake" and "a bunch of jerk offs on the internet accusing your missing (and now dead son) of being a murderer/terrorist and making death threats against the parents.

I think the parents should hire two guys to go around and kick the ass of every person who trash talked their dead son or threatened them with violence on the internet.

How in the hell are there so many crazy coincidences surrounding this entire ordeal? The brothers just happen to stop for snacks at a convenience store that was about to get robbed? One of the two guys the internet fingered incorrectly just happened to have been lying dead in a river? It's like a Paul Thomas Anderson movie.

I never even posted his picture and I advised others to shut the fark up about blaming him in the live threads. However I did post the pictures of two other guys while they were making rounds, but even when the media said that they were persons of interests, I should have refrained. So should have everyone. I didn't even call them suspects or persons of interests until the media did, I just said that these 'sleuths' seemed to make a good case about those two.

Never again. I was swooped in by what I thought was an incredible example of crowd-sourcing but turns out i was just a good ol' pitchfork and torches witch hunt where 'if it floats like a duck, it's a witch' was the threshold of credibility for proofs. farking never again. You consistently dehumanize those you classify as enemies to your cause. Historically the Japanese have excelled at that.

Well, I'm 6 feet and half an inch tall, and last I checked I was around 135-138 with some clothing on, so... yeah. That's not hard to believe.

It's not like I starve myself, either, I just have the metabolism of a hummingbird.

Suspect doesn't mean he did it, and Reddit/4Chan are not news sites. It's a tragedy for this poor man and his family, but to imply social media sites as a whole should be ashamed or anything like that is ludicrous. I don't hear anyone shaking their finger at conspiracy websites who boast these claims all the time. The only thing that's different about this is lazy journalists picked it up as fact.

If you're elevating a "bunch of jerkoffs on the internet" to a superior status than "a mistake," then this "freedom of speech" thing just isn't for you, and you should probably move to Russia yourself, where dissent is suppressed with the very most modern psychological techniques, so efficiently you may actually think you're freer there than in a liberal democracy.

I remember telling some dipshiat here to consider cooling the fark off about this kid in one of the half million Boston threads and he got all offended about being told that maybe speculation has too much in common with other things that come out one's asshole.

Suspect he's dourly pouting over at reddit, nursing a Bud Light and insisting the real terrorists are still out there.

A private individual hiring the two Mack Daddies of New Jersey to kick the asses of individual douche bags has nothing to do with free speech, Russia, liberals, or anything else of that nature.  You don't actually know what free speech means, do you?
