(The New Yorker)   After the tragedy in Boston and the new detente with New York, will Yankees fans ever learn to hate the Red Sox again? Probably   (newyorker.com) divider line 122

Sometimes, I think back a few years and remember a clumsy fat old man seeking attention running out to the mound to attack Pedro Garcia and then actually bouncing when he hit the ground. And I laugh and laugh.....

Yanks_RSJ: Maestro1701: There are 2 distinct eras in Red Sox/Yankees rivalry: pre-2004, and the Modern Era. The 2004 ALCS gave the Yankees something the Sox had for 86 years.

BAGGAGE.

2004 also gave a sense of parity to the rivalry. Yankees fans can crow about 27 World Series victories all they want...all a Boston fan has to say is "2004" and the tonal shift in the conversation is staggering...

Yes, a "sense" of parity is the right way to put that.  But the scale is still tipped heavily in our favor, and let's be honest, if the Red Sox ever blew a 3-0 lead there would be 1000 books released within a week to celebrate their misery.

And I genuinely despise the "27 rings" argument.  I'll gladly point out the five celebrations I've enjoyed since my senior year in HS, though.

And we've also got the "18-1" card to play if the discussion turns to the NFL.  Plus the other time NY beat the Patriots in the Super Bowl.  So, you know, we're okay.

You can play the "18-1" card all you want. Although I'm not happy with how it ended, I'm still proud of my team for going 18-1. It was an accomplishment.

mainstreet62: Big deal. You beat us once in the playoffs. Congrats. Now try not to chant "Yankees suck!" at every single home game. All it proves is that the Yankees are forever ingrained into your psyche. With good reason.

Havent heard that around here in a long time.

It's amazing so many people think that 2004 is something special. With both teams being evenly matched and every game basically a coin flip, the odds of winning 4 in a row are an "astronomical" 1 in 16. And please don't give me the "it's never been done in history!!!" BS, because statistically speaking, the history of playoffs isn't really that long, small sample size and all that.

Awwwww...isn't he cute, folks?

You've probably heard this before, but maybe it will get you a free beer in a bar bet.
There are 3 MLB teams whose name does not end with the letter "S".
Name them.
Everyone will get the Red Sox and White Sox.
The official team name of the Angels is The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim.

Live Jeter press conference right now.  Pretty much just telling the media he is hurt.  No timeline.  Not sure what the point of this is.  Probably just feeding the media something so they stop asking Cash/Hank/Hal/Joe/Yankees about it.

Showing off his tan more than anything else, and since they're in Tampa it's an opportunity for him to meet the media while he rehabs at Yanks facilities down there.

The only thing I've gotten out of this is that he said he's 100% sure he'll play this year.

The "rivalry/hate" is manufactured to get people to go see games. If you watch the end of any Yankees/Sox game, unless it's a playoff or the World Series, you see both teams shaking hands, and laughing it up.

They're all millionaire ballplayers who go hang out at the same clubs and parties together after the games. They don't have hate for each other as someday, they may find themselves on that other team.

Bwahaha!

I missed that on first read. Maybe he got it mixed up with Karim Garcia attacking the security guard during the same game.

Yeah, the 18-1 is the new 1918. But at least we got 2001,03 and 04 to soften it.

//God, 1918 really really sucked.

Indeed.

Ehhh, again, with 01,03 and 04, it doesn't have the same impact that 1918 did.

I have to admit, since 9/11 I've felt guilty about yelling "Yankees suck, go Red Sox!" at people in Yankees hats. Thanks to the Tsarnaevs our long national nightmare is over!
