Bush and his wife, Laura, granted ABC the interview ahead of Thursday's opening of the George W. Bush Presidential Center at Southern Methodist University.

Funny how they're calling it a "Center" instead of a "Library." Hmmmmm...

Despite the recent spike in Dubya's approval ratings anyone who seriously floats a Bush as a candidate for national office must have been fired from an ad agency after pitching Hindenberg Airlines, Union Carbide "Bhopal-Fresh" cologne and a reboot of E.T. directed by Joel Schumacher.

Why is Jeb Bush considered a good idea, anyhow? His brother had a pretty negative reception in his run. Is he like the good twin?

"Well, I certainly won't be as bad as my brother was! 2016" is not a very catchy campaign slogan.

Meh, they'll look at the numbers and instead prop up George P. Bush, Jeb's son.  "Heckuva Job... Brown-ie!"

The place is a living exercise in apologetics. Seriously. It has multimedia interactive displays detailing the failures of the presidency, where you can listen to the advice he was given and so forth.
The whole project is an exercise in "WELL, WHAT WOULD HAVE YOU DONE? HUH?!"
The sooner it's swallowed by a sinkhole the better.

I think you're putting a bit too much faith in the collective memory of the American electorate, and underestimating the strengths Jeb Bush would have as a national candidate: massive name recognition, a fundraising edge through his family connections, almost no connections to the Tea Party and other extremists, the backing of the GOP "elite", outreach to immigrants and Hispanics, and home-field advantage in the swingiest of swing states. He will have the "executive experience" card to play, which will stand in stark contrast to the lack of high-level executive experience in many of the purported Democrats. There will be moderates and independents who will look at him as a breath of fresh air after the insanity of the last 8 years, and if the Democratic nominee's campaign is based around "But he's a Bush!" they will be doomed to failure.

If 2004 and 2012 taught us anything, it's that a campaign needs substance; you can't just say "That guy's bad". We cannot underestimate Jeb Bush or assume that the electorate simply wouldn't elect him.

these are my thoughts as well. While I think W will continue to be a specter hanging over the heads of Republicans in 2016, I think the Democrats are under-estimating the advantages that Jeb* has. That said, I think whoever is the Republican candidate will have a similar problem Romney had in 2012 where there's a very fine line between appealing to moderates and not pissing off an increasingly extremist base.

Also, even though I'm warmer to the idea of Hillary being President than I was in 2008 (where I thought she relied too much on Bill's record instead of her own), it seems like she's the only serious contender among the Democrats whereas I can name at least a half dozen likely Republican candidates; I'm sure that'll change after the midterms, though.

*and even Chris Christie, even if he's somewhat of a pariah of the Republicans currently.

He is. That's why he didn't run for president when he could have.

Listen, I know that everyone gives W heat for being dumb, but he's not.  The majority of you are basing your opinion on his policy, but just because you disagree with that doesn't mean he's an unintelligent guy.  Bush got caught up in the fact that during his presidency we saw Twitter, and facebook, and the rice of the 24 news cycle... so all of a sudden every single gaffe he made was spread around the internet like wildfire.

John Kerry the other day got the song for the Boston Redsocks wrong, he called it "Sweet Adaline".  That doesn't mean he isn't intelligent, it just means he mis-spoke.  But if Bush did that, you all would be like, "DUR DUR DUR, HE'S RETARTDED!"

There's a saying that I've heard that NPH is the best actor out there because he's an openly gay man who has convinced the entire nation he's a womanizer as Barney on HIMYM.  Bush is a Yale and Harvard educated guy that managed to convince the entire world that he came from the same place as John Kerry, etc.  And that was AFTER we watched him grow up through his father.

I have a fervent dislike of him mainly because he was one of the gaggle of idiots who kept Terry Schiavo alive so that they could beat her like a drum for the "Pro-life" crowd. I live near that nursing home & there were near constant helicopters overhead whenever something happened in that case because for some reason an aerial shot is critical in a hospice case.

It's easy, all ya gotta do is wink and smirk and clear brush and do whatever yer VP tells ya to, and you can go on vacation like, half the time.  And you don't have to take any shiat off dad, you just tell him, daddy, I'm presidentin' now.  Oh but you gotta buy yerself a ranch, and get somethin' with good resale value, that's a lesson learned fer me.
