By the way, as of today, it's been released in 11 countries so this is probably valid.

Don't care. RDJ is one of three people (the others being Christoph Waltz and Sam Rockwell) whom I would willing pay $12 to watch read a phone book on-screen for 120 minutes.

Okay, would you pay $1.53 to see me read a phone book off-screen for 15 minutes?

But seriously, I read a couple of articles the other day saying 3 might RDJr's last Iron Man film. I figured it was the usual speculative bs but now I'm not so sure.

Considering what has transpired in recent "Avengers'" movies, many expected that the ten rings' superpowers would play a major role in the upcoming film. Unfortunately, that is not the case. Not even close.

Um... wasn't that idea publicly busted a long time ago?

Alan Rickman and RDJ could read alternate pages. And when they get tired, Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen could take over.

Ben Kingsley isn't the big bad? Sounds good to me. I guess I have to be a fan of the comic to understand why The Mandarin is a totally awesome villain.  Does he own a 250ft. robot or something?

To be fair it's not like Iron Man 3 is going to be oscar-worthy or anything but the gall to pull that off on actual fans is sad.

This might rival Click or Solider in regards to ultimate bait and switch-ness.

Brilliant!  Make it so!  Some phone book reading would also be appreciated.

And it's not like his rings are magic, either. They're alien in origin, IIRC.

I was never a big fan of The Mandarin, though. He's kind of an outdated villain. I would prefer to see Ghost as a Stark nemesis in the movies. That guy's cool, and he fits the world today.

I don't have a problem with the fakeout (they did something similar in Batman Begins). I liked the results the last time Shane Black and RDJ worked together so I'll keep an open mind until I see it.

I'm pretty sure it's going to suck after the mediocrity that was Iron Man 2

Add Morgan Freeman and Christopher Walken to the list of phone book readers

/Or Morgan Lofting, if her voice is still good.

Ummm... good?  It sounds interesting.  If the climax of the movie actually involved Stark battling a super-muscular Chinaman in blue armor who was using magic rings to shoot lasers and open up black holes, it would suck.  I know the hipster impulse is to say "Nah, that'd be AWESOME d00d~!" but it would suck.  And you know it.

I've always liked Sam Neill's native (read:Kiwi) voice. Also, no respect for Linda Hunt? She's the reason God of War's opening sequence is so compelling.

Aren't these the guys that said the Phase 2 arc would end with Hulk being exiled to Planet Hulk which would then be the focus of Phase 3.

You know, the bullshiat story that's been disavowed by everyone associated with the Marvel universe films?

2013-04-25 12:03:28 AM
I don't know anything about The Mandarin, so I don't really care. My only concern is that he's done well in the movie. With the Batman movies, I really knew next to nothing about Ra's al Ghul or Bane, but they were awesome in the films. Even the faux Ra's al Ghul, as referenced up top, was enjoyable.

I'm not terribly concerned with comic book consistency, which is silly and self-contradicting anyway.

Most of these sites don't pay attention to the news they themselves put out.

2013-04-25 12:17:29 AM
It bothered me when I first heard it, but then I accepted that the movies and comics are two different continuities. I don't expect The Walking Dead to be an exact copy of the comics, after all, so two different Mandarins? No problem.

2013-04-25 12:25:11 AM
Those ten rings sound stupid. How is the mandarin not the god emperor of earth with those powers? More importantly, how is he called the fracking "MANDARIN?" Was "the oriental" taken? It's 2013!

Would you believe his original origin story was as a mutant orange?
