Well, about the time her calf is born it might be time to rotate that tire to her rear section so that there is more even wear.

Thanks. I didn't know there would be details in treads on this still elk-ed radial.

Yeah, that sucked.

It least it's a snow tire.

But, it does create kind of a target-shape around the head...

Seems to me that the first time she put her head down to drink or graze, the tire would slide right over her head.

You'd think, eh? It looks like a pretty loose fit. OTOH, animals don't know diddly about tires. For all we know it keeps falling off and she thinks "oh look at that tasty plant right in the middle of the black round thing" and it ends up right back on there.

Elk are fairly easy to live trap. My husband volunteered for an elk population study in the Snoqualmie Valley, east of Seattle, and they easily caught elk in mesh traps to tag and take information on their condition. Their herd didn't leave the area, so they could easily be reunited. My husband even helped to build the traps. They were simple and easy, the elk could stand up in it and then when they needed to do their data collection/tagging, they could lay the trap down and the elk lays down. I have pictures of my husband with the elk that were in the newspaper even. They just have someone sit on the elk, because it doesn't realize it can get up... Funny stuff.

The calf will be born with a fan belt around its neck.

Sorry, bad pun. I couldn't resist.

And a reminder to city-born and raised farkers that calfing season is almost upon us (for elk, moose, etc). So if you do go camping or for a walk in the woods be careful.

The wheel on the elk goes round and round,

Why worry about it?  Spend a little doe, put her up on a rack, and get it done.

Christ. I don't know anything about elk, but I do know a little about roads and cars. and if I'm getting the scale right in that picture, you could damn near drive a Miata under that thing without touching.

"Look at this moose!  they call him "Sir".

By the length of his beard and the grey legs, I figure he must be over 10 years old. He looks to be well over 8 feet at the top of the shoulder hump, and with his head up the height to the top of his antler must be about 12 feet .This guy is king of the forest, no bear or pack of wolves would dare come after him when he has this rack......Considering that a dirt road can fit 1 1/2 cars across ... this fellow is HUGE ...THIS IS ONE BIG BOY! THE PICTURE WAS TAKEN  IN ELLIOT LAKE ( Elliot Lake is near Sault Ste. Marie. MI in Michigan 's Upper Peninsula )
Yes it is a regular size dirt road."
