Let me be the first to congratulate Elizabeth Colbert Busch for having just won a Senate seat.

ladodger34: Karac: un4gvn666: Why did Colbert Busch only agree to one debate?

/I don't give a shiat about Mark Sanford and his retard antics

Probably because the election is in less than two weeks.  And how many debates do you really need?

The GOP primaries had, what 50? debates.  And did you learn a single thing from ANY of them that you didn't already know?

Well, we did learn that Mittens would abandon his somewhat moderate record in order to get the GOP nomination.  That has to be worth something right?  And that Newt Gingrich entered the race to sell more books.

That kind of proves my point.  Did anyone ever have any doubt about those two facts?

The right's obsession with Pelosi continues to baffle me.  She is the minority leader in a house dictated by the Boehner rule rendering her effectively powerless.

Go after a dem with some power like, I dunno, the one in charge of the executive branch.  Or go pick on the Senate majority leader.

Muta: Spasticus Autisticus: Ms. Pelosi controls a sizable war chest. But more importantly, she is an enduring "boogyman" that causes a Pavlovian response in most Republicans.

And none of them know why.

1) Woman
2) San Franciscan/Baltimoran
3) Democrat
4) seriously, she has a vagina (we think - see #2)
5) MOSTEST LIBERALEST EVAR
6) also, she's totes uggo
7) has courage in her convictions, willing to use non-derp in arguments
8) she doesn't hate the Islams or gays

...since she's currently running for the House of Representatives, that's exceptionally bold.

There was a number of illuminating moments during the debates for people who just say "both sides are bad" and otherwise tune out of the process. Seeing an entire stage of presidential contenders reject a 10:1 spending cut to revenue increase deal as "too liberal" must have been eye opening. Also the booing of gay soldiers.

un4gvn666: Why did Colbert Busch only agree to one debate?

Because it's much more effective for her campaign to have Sanford standing on the side of the street debating an image of someone not even in the race being held up by a poor staffer with nothing better to do than get heat stroke while looking like a crazy street preacher.

This stunt will convince no one to vote for Sanford who was not already planning to.  But it will convince a few people to come out to the polls so that South Carolina looks a little less stupid by not holding up a national-level jackass as a shining example of the best our state has to offer.

2013-04-24 02:50:18 PM
What would you want more than anything else in the whole world?

'I'd like to go to lunch.'

2013-04-24 02:50:40 PM

Diogenes: After the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) released a brutal ad last week that mocked Sanford's 2009 mistress scandal, the former governor took out a full page ad in Sunday's edition of the Charleston Post & Courier in which he likened himself to a soldier in the Battle of the Alamo and accused Colbert Busch and Pelosi of attempting to "buy this race."

Wait...I thought he was more like King David?

Poor guy.  On top of everything else, he's got multiple personality disorder.

For the GOP these days, playing the 'elitist librul atheist outta touch Washington insider' card can be a winning strategy. No matter how stoopid something appears to outsiders.

And I'll say it again: did anyone not know before watching a debate that a republican candidate would say they refuse ANY kind of tax increases no matter what else came with the offer or that the entire field of candidates and everyone who bothered to get a ticket to see them all in person were bigots?

After the debate he asked the poster to hike the Appalachian Trail with him.

I was wondering how much money his campaign wasted by paying a staffer to stand there and hold the picture for the duration of the "debate" instead of getting an easel.

I are serious candidate. This am serious debate.

Elizabeth Colbert Busch should challenge him to a debate held at the state park home to the Appalachian Trail.

I like that the GOP has latched on to this strategy. They are admitting that they can only argue with their own imaginations.

He is literally straw manning.

2013-04-24 03:16:11 PM
Wait, why isn't it a poster of Colbert Busch? Why do I even waste my time asking that? This guy is toast.

2013-04-24 03:16:48 PM
I debated myself the other day. The only reason I lost is because I'm so darned good at arguing a contrary viewpoint.

No I'm not.

They should've either just put it on a damn easel, or cut off the poster at the ankles, so it "looks like" Pelosi is actually standing there. No sense of style whatsoever.

Stefanie Bainum @stefaniebainum
"HolyCitySinner: So..why is this happening?" Sanford trying to make a point that Colbert Busch wont debate, so he'll debate her big donor"

But... why not debate a poster of Colbert Busch? At least Paul and Johnson were debating their "actual" opponent.

How long until the GOP decide to conduct a "debate" via the Rock Bottom method?

"So, Mr. Obama: you admit you grabbed our guns.  What do you have to say in your defense?"

1.bp.blogspot.com

"Mr. Obama, your silence will only incriminate you further. No, Mr. Obama, don't take your anger out on me.  Get back!  Get back!  Mist -- Mr. Obama -- nooo!"

2013-04-24 03:26:56 PM
The moderator was all over the place. The poster kept getting the last word. Totally unfair.

2013-04-24 03:31:24 PM

Saiga410: Am I the only one that notice the person holding up the poster has nice ankles?

I have no doubt that at least Mark Sanford was aware that she had nice ankles.

Talking to inanimate objects (and non-existent people) is a sign of schizophrenia.  For some reason, this mental illness seems to be incredibly prevalent in the Republican party.  Even worse, Republican voters don't seem to have a problem voting for people who clearly need professional help, and they actually see it as a positive quality of one's character.

Did the poster say: "Please proceed, governor."?

Mark Sanford, standing on a sidewalk in the middle of the day with a poster of Nancy Pelosi. And there isn't any crowd to be seen. And he's debating the poster.

And he'll still get at least 40% of the vote.

I applaud the tremendous amount of effort this asshole is putting into losing this race.  It's not easy to lose as a Republican in South Carolina, but I think he's up to the task.

/I particularly liked the campaign posters that look like the Argentinian flag.

Staffers can be volunteers, or already paid to be there.  You have to shell out cash to get an easel.

Confronting an effigy of your opponent is farking creepy as all hell.
Going to set it on fire and dance around the ashes next?

I'd rather not have that much insight into your tribalistic and primitive thought processes.
It's less depressing to think that you're just a vicious sociopath rather than an ignorant twat.

It would be hilarious if he didn't have a pretty good shot at winning.

2013-04-24 05:20:52 PM
Well they can't really win a debate against the "real thing" so why not debate a fabricated strawman. The sad part is at one time this would be ridiculed by the public rather than treated as something of subsatnce. That is how low the GOP has taken public discourse.

What next Republicans? Release a Benghazi report containing what you wish happened instead of what really happened?

2013-04-24 05:38:07 PM

impaler: It looks like Mark Sanford is trying to make himself look so ridiculous, Colbert will have to make fun of him, and then he can go cry to the FEC.

It's nice to know he can succeed in the areas where his true talents lie.

I...  Mother of God.  I have it.

Stephen Colbert needs to have Sanford on his program as a guest.  Before the election.
