So Oklahoma City wasn't terrorism either.  And Eric Rudolph wasn't a terrorist either.  Interesting.  Do you have a newsletter I could subscribe to?  I am curious as to what the world looks like to you.

In 1939, FDR called for the combatant nations in WWII to agree to never bomb civilians.

By the end of the war, the US had killed 500,000+ German civilians through bombing. In one raid on Tokyo, we burned to death 100,000 civilians. We used two nuclear bombs on Japan--the only use of nuclear weapons in war to date--and killed more than 250,000 civilians with them.

It's understandable that SOME people would have a problem with a country that went from saving millions from starvation in the Soviet Union to annihilating civilian populations of enemy countries. The Nazis championed that tactic from the start; we began differently.

However, as someone once said, the greatest moral failure the United States could have made in World War II was to lose the war. That we didn't do.

You mean like how we removed a democratically elected President in Cuba and installed Castro. Or how we stuck our noses into Vietnam to "stop communism". Or how we removed a democratically elected leader in Iran and installed a theocratic one. Or how we then trained and supplied Iraq to fight Iran. Or how we trained and supplied bin Laden and the Taliban to fight Russia. Or how we trained and supplied Noriega in Nicaragua. Then we trained and supplied the rebels in Nicaragua. Then we went after bin Laden, Saddam. Or how about our sabre rattling at Iran recently? Or sticking our nose in Korea, over and over. Or us sticking our nose into the Chechnyan-Russian Federation conflict and sending terrorists from Saudi Arabia to interfere.

How about Maoists in India? they're a far, far bigger problem than the jihadis. or FARC. they're pretty sad now but they've been murdering by the dozens for decades in Columbia.

Uh... Japan bombed us because we embargoed the shiat out of them and then also stationed fleets in an attempt to dissuade them from attacking us. Also, when Japan entered into the alliance with Germany and Italy, we started giving money and material to the Brits.

But really, has the U.N. ever done anything more important than strongly worded letters?  I googled U.N. success and only got links to un.org.

The pragmatic usefulness of the UN is a public and bureaucratic pressure valve. When tensions run high they can dampen the situation through public airing of the issue making it more newsworthy and this making the players think twice abut their actions. It's a form of mediation that works where a vacuum would actually be worse.

Its the old self-fulfilling prophecy - treat a group of people badly because they are bad (usually on "moral" or superiority grounds) and they will start behaving badly which justifies their initial treatment. See the various wars against the Native Americans who fought back and various official policies that kept jobs away from African Americans and encouraged crime.

I know! John Bolton was an assclown and brought shame to the organization!

And screw all those kids who learned to read or were treated for diseases under UN programs, not to mention the absolute waste spent on rebuilding impoverished countries after natural disasters. we all know the US has done far more for Haiti than the UN ever did.

And Bush I, with the First Iraq War - what a joke that he used the UN to build a coalition of over 100 nations to give legitimacy to his invasion. His son sure learned what a waste the UN was when he went in with a coalition of the willing - it turned out way better!
