Those operating the idol(s) will be dealt with accordingly:

/seriously, I'm beginning to think Hendrick has bought off NASCAR
//and now they're eliminating threats to Johnson
///watch the Chase be filled with drivers who never run good because everybody else in the top 10 has been penalized to oblivion

Its "he who shall not be named" or else we get yelled at

Seriously if these they are going to pull Kenseth's engine, they need to go looking for Kyle Busch's engine from 2 weeks ago.

this weekend JPM will be driving the #42 Depends Chevy.

From the article:
Kenseth's car passed an initial postrace inspection, but the engine was brought back to NASCAR's Research and Development Center in Concord, N.C., for further evaluation -- as it always is with the winning car -- where it failed.

Busch's engine was either clean or they missed it at that time. Since Kyle and Matt are teammates I doubt they are hawking Kenseth but letting Rowdy slide.

So NASCAR is taking its cues from F1 and overtly fixing races now?

2013-04-24 12:05:31 PM
The Associated Press reported Wednesday that the engine failed inspection because one of the connecting rods did not meet the minimum weight requirement and NASCAR was discussing possible penalties.

Those retards. Not the people handing out penalties, the engine builders.

The car would have been slightly FASTER if that rod had been equal weight with the rest. They shaved off a quarter gram( or whatever) too much weight on one rod and hurt the balance slightly and cost them the race and probably some cash.

In other news, NASCAR announced that there will be group qualifying on the road course circuits this year for the Winston Nextel Sprint Cup this year. That's pretty cool.

Will JPM get a top 20 finish this weekend? depends.

I was thinking something similar...if one connecting rod were light, wouldn't it harm the engine's balance? Seems a bit unlikely to create an advantage.

I also wonder how much work JGR does on the engines they get from TRD.

Doesn't matter either way. Kenseth's team's going to get spanked hard, and it puts a black mark on their early-season performance. Take out the bad finishes at Daytona and Bristol, and Matt's been contending everywhere this season, even the flat tracks.

Apparently when 2 TRD engines not only fail to blow up, but actually win back to back races, folks start to get suspicious.

Confusion and repulsion will abound on Saturday if Juan's Depends-sponsored #42 car is assessed a stop-and-go penalty.

Guy can drive, but my gawd he's got to be the most boring personality in Nascar ever! I would rather watch concrete dry than to see him win a race or do a post race interview.

Penalties have been announced. Well, bring on 2014, I guess?

The winner's engine gets pulled every week.  They've done it for years.

Assuming JGR doesn't mess with those components and this "infraction" occurred because of a snafu at TRD, Toyota really needs to take a hard look at their QA process.

Damn, that's one helluva a penalty for something that creates no competitive advantage.

Jimmie Johnson reminds me of SEC football: you can get caught blatantly cheating, and it can become national news, but the ruling body will simply pretend that it didn't happen.

I think the harmonic balancer can handle one pushrod being a little lighter. Especially only a gram or so off. We didn't weigh them during a rebuild but I know for a fact that some weigh a bit more than others. Even in the same engine.

Those engines are dyno tested before they're used anyway so the techs would have caught it if there were any problems. And the lighter the rotational assembly, the high the rpm that can be achieved. Even one pushrod.

So, will NASCAR decide Matt Kenseth is responsible somehow and ban him from the Cup garage until he pays up like they did to Carl Long? (His wife was the listed car owner, IIRC.)

Why do they have a minimum weight on the rods?  Do they think that if there is no weight minimum, rods will get too light, causing engines to blow more often?

They're trying to keep things low tech. No fancy alloys for NASCAR, by gawd.
