Stick him in a medium security facility, so he'll retain some incentive to still be cooperative, and spend the next few decades having his mental state studied.  He's pretty much the poster child for "not very bright immigrant who ends up a terrorist".  In Palestine he'd likely be the kind of guy who gets convinced blowing himself up at a checkpoint is a good idea.

They just really hated those pressure cookers?

2013-04-24 11:01:39 AM
I kind of understand the older brother's motive; being angry about the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, etc, etc, etc, but the younger brother was thoroughly Americanized from all the comments and evidence I've seen. Either he's really good at hiding his anger or his brother convinced him somehow to go along with these attacks.

/still doesn't excuse his actions

I have yet to hear anything come out of his mouth.

... All I have heard is what the corrupt government has put out. I trust them about as much as I trust my ex-wife....

FTA:

A law enforcement official said investigators believed the Tsarnaevs built their bombs after consulting a how-to guide in Inspire, an online magazine published by the Al Qaeda franchise in Yemen. In a 2010 article, the English-language magazine urged would-be terrorists to build a crude bomb using a pressure cooker, gunpowder from shotgun shells or fireworks, and other easily obtainable items.

Anyone else find that morbidly hilarious?  An English language magazine published by the Yemeni "Al Qaeda franchise".  Called "Inspire".  That has articles on bomb-making.  You really can't make this shiat up.

FTFA  "He traveled to the Russian republic of Dagestan in early 2012, but the alert was not triggered because the airline misspelled his name on the manifest".  I'm paying eleventy bajillion tax dollars for anti-terror programs, whatsits and gizmos and THIS is what I get?  I could sneak around the TSA by spelling my name "Bobb Smythe"?

No surprise that these guys are too stupid to realize that the Iraq war ended more than a year and a half ago.

This country is great because we are all innocent until proven guilty.

Why do you farkers insist on speaking about him like he has been tried and convicted?

I get it, but how the hell do you go from being angry at the government to blowing up spectators at a sporting event? What a wacko.

2013-04-24 11:04:48 AM
Certainly a valid casus believe but I'm not sure what they think a bunch of Marathon runners in Boston have to do with the decisions made in ginning up the US's wars of aggression.

Maybe they read fark and found the arguments about the government not being separate from the people convincing.

DNRTFA, but I'm sure it's more death to America, jihad jihad kill the infidel horseshiat; who cares.  What I'm interested in knowing is who got in black hat's ear, and who else that piece of shiat is talking to.  That might be the only piece of actionable intelligence that can come out of this awful mess.

After that, buckwheats.

Angry crazy violent people will be angry, crazy, and violent. They will find some justification for angry, crazy, violent behavior. Were it not Iraq/Afganistan, were he of a different background, it'd have been something else.

I was wondering about that myself.

How the hell do you get past TSA at the gate if your ID doesn't match your boarding pass to the letter.  And if you're traveling out of the country, that's even more people comparing documents to not notice the discrepancy.

So, laws to restrict fireworks and access to "dangerous" websites in 3...2...1...

After all...the politicians "have to do something" to prevent something like this happening again.

My guess is he's just a sociopath, and the thought of killing people was something that excited him.  I really don't think he had much hatred for America at all.

So AQ's request that individuals and very small groups should read Inspire magazine, learn terror techniques then execute their own attacks without any contact with AQ pretty much worked.

The days of AQ's leaders risking their lives to drones by physically bringing in recruits and training them in Afghanistan and other places are over. Now it's going to be much as it has been recently. AQ giving out information over the web and individuals training, equipping and attacking all on their own.

This is actually part of the immigration reform act and was brought up in testimony yesterday. Immigration officials read your passport, then manually type your name into the computer. They can typo it. Part of the immigration reform act means all passports will be electronically scanned.

And yes. Until he has open visitation so the public can interview this guy for themselves, I don't trust any of this stuff. Witness this week's revelations:

- failed to follow up on tip from the Russians
- declared the manhunt a failure only to have some retiree discover the fugitive minutes later
- jumped on Elvis as the ricin guy based on an online sig line he'd used for 15 years
- West? Not a peep of support for the volunteer firefighters who got killed.
