I thought Obama already had a tattoo. Did Republican voters lie to me?

James!: Now that is devious.

Diabolical, even.  I wholeheartedly approve.  You know, Teddy Roosevelt used to say he could manage the country or his daughter Alice, but not both at the same time.  Obama seems to have it covered.

He doesn't need drones, he can just tell the guy he told Secret Service detail to stand in the guy's field of vision and draw their guns if the guy so much as tries to put his arm around her.

Threats that you won't follow up on but the person doesn't know that are the best.

A comic I read had the parents talking to the son and the son's boyfriend.

"A bag with supplies, condoms, and other items that you may find helpful will be kept on your door. Any time the bag is empty, it will be refilled, no questions asked. Just be safe."

"You realize that this has freaked us out and now we'll likely not have sex for at least two years?"

"Mission Accomplished."

As a tattooed person, I would hope my children will follow my lead: if you're going to get ink, get it somewhere that is not visible when you're wearing business casual clothing, and think long and hard about what you want the designs to be.

Well supposedly it's far more effective to humiliate your kids instead of discipline them. There's also the effect of international news which will show the image far and wide.

He must already have those girls fearing for their lives if he's capable of making that threat without it backfiring.

You have to trust that your kid isn't going to see this as an awesome way to screw with mom and dad, though.

It might dissaude them from thinking that's a good way to rebel, or it might make them think it's an amazing way to rebel and "fark you both", hah!

Wow.  That's... that's an awful plan.  If I had the power to force the President to get a tattoo of anything I want, the only thing that would slow me down would be indecision stemming from the sheer number of hilarious possibilities.

I was expecting this to be some typical family, and the teenager got back at her conservative parents by getting an Obama tattoo.

I don't know whether the actual story is better.

He's not the president to his daughters, he's their dad. My dad had no tattoos, but if he told me, "I'll get what you get" then I would have been very careful to never let him see what I had or where I got it. My dad with stars on his lower back? Published on the interwebs? Holy hell, no thanks. I am 31 and was tattooed at 20, so I cannot even imagine how mortifying it would be. My dad somewhat resembled Jesus, Howard Stern and Weird Al, so imagine that guy with a tramp stamp. I mean, really, it would be worth NOT getting ink to avoid that.

You future parents who are sitting back thinking this is a great idea, don't do it. One of the keys to being a parent is not making idle threats. Had I tried something like this I would have the words Mentally Insane tattooed across the bottom of my forearms so that when I crossed my arms you could read it. And the kid that did this was not 18 at the time, yet managed to find an artist who was willing to overlook that. It was done in the quaint little town of Los Angeles so it's not like I could just go quiz the three or four local artists to see who to press charges against. But some kids just love to buck the system. Never ever make a threat that you aren't fully prepared to back up.

2013-04-24 01:12:16 PM
"And our thinking is that might dissuade them from thinking that somehow that's a good way to rebel."

Except you know that your daughters aren't that farking stupid. They'll wait until they're over the age of 18 and no longer under your roof, and then they'll get inked up.  It's no skin off their back at that point if their zany old parents decide to copy them and embarrass themselves on the internet.
