This survey is irrelevant without a "they all suck" option.

They're all bad.  Choosing the worst is like trying to chose the ugliest turd in the bowl.

Pelosi is nothing more than a San Francisco limousine liberal

Not all turds are created equally

I'm not sure what the point is here. If Pelosi was not gerrymandered into the minority and Reid not filibustered into oblivion would these polls show the exact opposite?

Nobody rational would say otherwise. But then again this is fark.

But they are still all shiat.

So..  Were going to argue about which top party leaders are the worst when they all score bad? (at least according to this poll).  You know because the leaders in my party of choice are only doing bad because the other party made them that way.

Nancy Peelosi is so stupid that she continues to maintain control of the minority party in the House.

Nancy Piglosi is so unpopular that she has been in the House for 20 years.

Nancy Peloser is 73 years-old and I do not find her sexually attractive.

Pulled that one out of your ass, didn't you.   Eight out of ten Americans....or 81% of those surveyed-disapprove of the job Congress is doing.

2013-04-24 11:15:53 AM
For some context: One of the GOP campaign strategies was to work very hard to make their followers hate/fear Reid and Pelosi and then campaign in house and senate races with "[Opponent's name] voted with Pelosi XX% of the time last year. Send a message to Washington we're to accepting Pelosi's extremist agenda in [Insert state here]"

Typical libs.  Always hating on those who have achieve success in life.  You know, if you libs would work hard than you might achieve as well, but you just want to tear down the EVIL rich.

I want to know what those numbers would be if they only reflected the respondent's district/state. Who do voters hate most after actually being in a position to vote for or against them?

I don't necessarily like Peloci and obviously by my comments I think all congresscritters are pretty much idiots (I know mine are), but when a person in the current GOP talk about a "polarizing" figure, it is simply double talk for "I don't believe what he/she believes."  They said it a lot about Clinton and they say it a lot about Obama too.  But oddly, when you have an administration whose entire strategy was always a Carl Rove "divide and conquer" scheme, the word doesn't get used at all.

I allllllmost clicked on a Moonie Times link....

That said, after finding an alternate legitimate source, the results hardly surprise me. The irrational and deeply deranged hatred for Pelosi and Reid by the right is well-known, so having them, Boehner and McConnell on top isn't exactly shocking information.

Most people in the House operate by fooling the majority of the constituents ALL of the time.

Something seems familiar here...

It's from a Gallup poll.  The same Gallup who said Romney was going to win on election day. And receive 8% of the black vote.

They are no longer a legitimate source - no matter which media outlet reports the results.

Oooh, please let them all be Democrats, please let them all be Democrats.....

*clicks link, then clicks source link*

Apparently this was not all of Congress, they only polled about the party leaders in each house.

Not a whole lot of point to this poll, was there?

2013-04-24 11:30:42 AM
Maybe i'm misunderstanding this, but, it singles out "leaders", arent there only 4 or 5 "leaders" in congress? I immediately assumed this was going to be Bachmann and maybe Rangel or something, until I saw "leaders", and then this list just seems to name them in order of most powerful=most hated. Or am i just missing something here?

I'm pretty sure the opposite is why most people don't like her.  People don't give Cantor as much flak because he never made a big deal out of "my tenure will change everything".  Pelosi, during her time in power, promised everyone to lasso the moon and give everyone a bag of candy and a free pony and then... nothing much changed except where Obama stepped in and did her job for her (mostly after she no longer had the majority to work with).

Really higher-profile in her complete lack of effectiveness than most.  Albeit I'm not sure why the resentment's still lingering, but eh, Americans hold grudges sometimes.

//I don't like her for unrelated reasons regarding her behavior representing her district when I lived there.  It boils down to being corrupt even for a congressman.  But she's not satan incarnate or anything, just a particularly dirty pol.

Nice. A poll of that same district's residents would probably show that only 50% could name their own representative.

It's a lot of work to drive up high levels of emotional motivation against 535 separate individuals, so the GOP took a more efficient route and focused on one member in each house and then linked local targets with Pelosi and Reid. As there were far more house races than senate races Pelosi got the most attention, which is why you get folks all across the nation with "Fire Pelosi" bumper stickers.

It's pointless because these polls are stupid.  Everybody outside of Nancy Pelosi's district can hate her guts and it doesn't matter, since she's elected by her district only.  The same goes for generic approval ratings of congress.

It doesn't mean a hill of beans when congress has a 19% approval rating since nobody votes for congress.  The post:

Rapmaster2000:
I hate Congress.  They are the worst.  Except for the guy in my district.  Everyone else needs to vote out the Dems and RINOs in their districts.

Comes into play here.

Most of my Republican coworkers have started doing the "throw them all out" thing recently.  When I point out that they all voted for the incumbent quasi-birther representative, and are therefore part of the problem that they complain about, well that's different because we couldn't let a Democrat win.

And having the Democrats more hated than the Republicans would be unsurprising if conservatives are more prone to hate their opponents than liberals are. However, I don't have longitudinal data handy for a wider test of that conjecture.

M-O-O-N.  That spells NGTRTFA.

2013-04-24 11:52:54 AM
This makes total sense for two reasons:

A) Party leaders are natural lightning rods, but Reid and Pelosi have it difficult for the added reason that members of their own party expect them to be able to overcome Republican obstructionism, which they can't seem to do.  So Republicans hate them and Democrats are disappointed in them.  By comparison, McConnell, Boehner, and Cantor can simply promise girdlock and meet their constituents' every expectation.

B) Republicans have gone to greater lengths to personify all Democrats, and every Democratic evil, real or imagined, as Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi.  How many banner ads do you see calling on people to "stop the Pelosi/Reid regime!" or something to that extent?  I think most equivalent Democratic ads focus on stopping Republican obstructionism or Republicans, generally.  The Democrats' strategy is more accurate, but probably less effective.  Attaching a single face to an issue or group will always make people feel more passionately towards that thing.  For Republicans, Pelosi and Reid are 1984's Goldstein.

Given the people OTHER than Pelosi, I pick Pelosi.

/Just because she's on my side doesn't mean I have to respect her.
