Whenever an elected official complains about the length of a bill what they're really saying is that they're too lazy to do their goddamned job.

Ted Cruz is the congressional version of a Fark politics tab poster. He doesn't read the article because he doesn't like where it comes from but precedes to discuss it like an expert.

I must have missed the part of the article where Napolitano said anything about the bill beyond her having read it. I didn't notice any mention of a question or answer regarding tracking the Boston bombers. There was a placemarker for [video:1], but even disabling my noScript didn't put a video there.

He's not actually. He's smart as hell with an ivy league education. He knows exactly what he's doing, knows exactly what crowd he's playing for and knows exactly which buttons he's pushing and why. He's morally bankrupt and he's ginning up the teatards because that's how you win elections and raise money as a Republican these days.

He's dangerous and should be treated as such.

He is dangerous as long as he's in the Senate. He was also born in Canada, so at least we don't have to worry about him as president. Yay for small favors.

"Maybe it's in the bill, maybe it's not.  I haven't read it.  Have you?"

"Heck no!  Who's got time for that? Out here in Real America, we have real jobs."

"The point is, we shouldn't have to read a bill that's eight thousand pages long just so we can feel safe from terrorist immigrants.  Something is seriously wrong inside the Beltway if that's standard operating procedure."

"Good point. I mean... I mean, if you're a cop trying to keep the public safe from terrorist immigrants, are we going to expect them to read and memorize all of the provisions in an eight thousand page bill or manual every time they try to arrest somebody like the Boston Bombers?  Why are we burdening law enforcement like this?"

"And with all that fuss about reading that Islamic terrorist his Miranda rights... is Obama and the liberals, are they now going to insist we have to read immigrant terrorists an eight thousand page bill of rights if they're under suspicion?  Won't that impede terror investigations enormously?"

"Maybe that's intentional, Steve.  Maybe that's the plan."

"A sobering thought.  Up next, after this break, Kim Kardashian speaks out on her recent divorce. Should her ex be charged with domestic terrorism?  Stay right here for more Fox and Friends, after these messages."

For a piece of literature of that length, it would be more easily digestable if it was a story about 4 midget Mexicans crossing into Americador to fight Cruz-ron using one rake that rules them all.

I suspect Ted Cruz has absolutely no decency and no capability for sensing remorse or embarrassment.

Absolute, self-enforced oblivion is the only rational explanation for how a person can maintain a habit of making such a complete and absolute ass out of himself in such highly public ways as often as that man does.

This

For the love of god, only 844 pages? The mistborn trilogy has over twice that many (total), and it took my 7th grade cousin a single weekend to burn through all three. Yes, there is a difference between high fantasy and legal documents, but for fark's sake, it's your farking job to read that shiat. You get to devote all day to it and get paid 6 figures to do so. You even get interns that can read and summarize sections of it that aren't vitally important to read yourself.

To act as if this is some great, horrible thing for you is to admit that you haven't held a real job in your entire farking life. Hell, I get paid barely over minimum wage (as an intern) and am expected to pick up a book and learn an entirely new programming language/system/set of regulations/software suite on a weekly basis so that I can teach it to others. If I don't, I lose my job.

I read the New York Times piece on this hearing, and they didn't even mention Ted Cruz. It was also way more informative. Shocking, I know, but CNS isn't exactly a standard-bearer.

Of course, when you read what Napolitano actually says, she dodges the issue. She says she knows parts really well, so she "skimmed" it, but never comes right out and says she read the whole thing. She "reviewed" it. Or, in Washingtonspeak, one of her aides read it and gave her an executive summary, except for whatever few parts she read completely.

The article does not, in any way, suggest that the bill would have "tracked the Boston bombers."

Mostly because it wouldn't have.

The decisions these people make can effect millions. It's their farking job. If they can't do it they should step aside and let someone competent do it.
