See, these people are the reason my cheese-curd wrapped peanut snacks will never take off. Perfect snack for on the go, gives you protein, tastes good, and yet these chumps would have me locked away all for the safety of their kids. Selfish.

I feel for this lady and her kid, but that lady's attitude makes me want to spread peanut butter all over myself and buy some puppies.

Far less whiny/strident than expected.

Hope microdose therapy works for the kidlet when it comes proper time, ma'am.

My brother had a fatal nut allergy in the 70s, so before then apparently.

It certainly seemed rarer back then...  However, how much of that is level of coverage?

When our infant and child mortality rates dropped drastically?

It must be a nightmare to have a child with a potentially fatal food allergy.

And a strawberry-shrimp glaze.  Repellent?  To be sure.  But when you need one-shot coverage for the widest range of potential pests, you need it.

Yes. She's written a couple of books--Prep and American Wife (which is loosely based on Laura Bush's vehicular manslaughter incident)--so she can afford to put her damned snowflake in a bubble and stop trying to force everyone to accommodate her daughter's genetic abnormality.

Of course children who have nut allergies need to be protected.

One simple way to reduce the number of kids with nut allergies. Feed them all nuts.

It's not just that her kid will burst into flames if he hears a radio host tell a story about watching a TV show profiling Jimmy Carter.

If she's taking a kid with tree allergies to the park I think her intentions are pretty clear.

I was ready to hate the article, but I found it pretty reasonable. Trolly headline aside, she doesn't actually propose banning snacks at the playground.

FTFA:  but I understand this possibility is probably about as likely as my laundry washing itself or me having a moms' night out with Tina Fey and Amy Poehler.
I disagree, Tina Fey would love to go out with a mom named Curtis.  It's edgy; she's edgy.  Curtis your an edgitarian!

Oh. My. God.  There was an almond on the ground by the slide.  An entire farking almond amongst the wood chips or similarly colored padded play fodder.  And crushed goldfish crackers.  Sorry lady, it's nature.  Whilst goldfish crackers do not grow on bushes, they are biodegradable and prone to spillage.  You're at a playground, presumably one for children.  Children are dirty and messy.  Do you know what kids do at playgrounds?  They play and get dirty.  Some might like to snack as they play and get dirty all at the same time and that's just too bad for you.

I don't care how sad or stressed that makes  you.  I understand the impulse to try and socialize the child normally, but you should probably give up on that if grazing against an item from many of the major food groups is going to kill her. Dairy? Really?  All of it? And nuts AND...nevermind.  Perhaps there is a playgroup for children like yours in a nice sterile home.

2013-04-24 02:19:31 AM
Sorry to say but this lady will either have to accept the fact that a 2 year old does not have good enough impulse control to be allowed to wander around a playground.

Sorry lady but your kid aint gonna make it in the real world.

why hasent someone opened up a retirement home of sorts for childeren that damned allergic.

why does society have to change to suit the weakest link?
build them a nice big house and care for them as needed.

now I say this as a father myself. Your child is not anybody elses problem

I read somewhere that it is becoming more common because people are so afraid of feeding their kids any type of nut because of the slight possibility that they have an allergy, that they are actually helping their kids to develop an actual allergy to nuts by preventing their bodies to grow accustomed to them.

After I posted the reference; I thought to myself, "oh shiat; what if his brother died because of his fatal peanut allergy? That would make me look like an insensitive ass." Then I realized; while I'd probably feel bad if that was the case; I'd probably get over it.

/ sometimes, I wonder if we are doing this stuff to ourselves. What with overuse of disinfectants and all.
