No matter one's personal theology (or lack thereof) I think we can all agree that if there is an afterlife these snapperheads have a permanent reservation in the room by the elevator in the most disused wing of the Endless Vuvuzela & Pan Flute Orchestra covers "Nickleback" Concert building adjacent to the Never-Ceasing Rerun of "Batman & Robin" Screen next to the Lake of Burning Hobo Semen where the roving Octo-Penised Rapenocerouses always have full bottles of Cialis.

BUT PERSONAL FREEDOM WHARGARBL! (No, really. There are people who defend the practice of killing children in this manner as the religious freedom of the parents.)

I feel like things like this need to be viewed under the doctrine of "Where my nose begins is the place your right to swing stops.", so to speak. Children are not able to give informed consent, and are not able until at least the age of 10 to understand the gravity in the majority of cases of eskewing proven, life-saving medical care.

I also feel that when you want to treat your dying child using prayer, versus effective and proven therapies, it's the point where the courts and medical professionals need to step in. Letting a child die of DKA because you want to pray the sugars away is assinine.

And yeah, I'm aware this kid died of bacterial sepsis. I'm just using another case.

The amazing part is that they have 7 other children that have survived thus far without falling prey to their parent's stupidity

Well, breeding in great numbers, then having their children confiscated to be raised by someone else and stuck in jail for 10 years, so I'm not sure the social traits are going to be effectively passed on, there.

If only they had prayed harder.  Or, perhaps, they should not have pissed off their god.  Either way, the kids are probably better off.  At least now they will not be infected with Teh Stoopids.

Every group of people that becomes large enough will have their nuts.  Most Christians aren't like this.  Most of us wouldn't let a child suffer.  If you want to condemn these people, I'll be right there with you.  But don't blame Christianity because some of his followers are idiots.

I don't agree with that. Maybe they got the religion lottery correct and God actually hates medicine.

They'd be in the penthouse suite and the surgeons would be getting dino-raped.

Christian Scientists and people who follow that belief are to Christianity  what Islamofascism is to Islam. It's fundamentalism, and most people aren't that stupid that they can't seperate the two. On the other hand, this seems to be a selective argument people make when THEIR chosen favorite religious belief is under attack, and not the more popular to hate one.

At any rate, rationality and tolerance does not mean that people have to tolerate intolerance and stupidity.

FTA they could face a prison sentence as long as 10 years.

And like Job, retaining faith despite continued misery by God's hand.

From TFA:

"They have not been charged, as authorities are waiting on autopsy results, but they could face a prison sentence as long as 10 years."

10 years is bullshiat.  They killed two children and would likely kill the remaining seven if given the chance.  The correct response would be to infect them both with something horrible, then isolate them so that they can't spread it.  Wait a week or so for them to die.

Who are you talking to?  I realize fark is rich in athiests and agnostics, but almost all of us recognize that most Christians are reasonable people.  You are like 75% of the US population after all.  There would be huge problems if most of you never went to or took your kids to hospitals.

Churchy LaFemme: Let me guess: they don't believe in birth control either?

Most of these people tend to be followers of the Quiverfull movement in the modern age, mixed in with a healthy fear of the Government and belief in conspiracy theories.

They also tend to be overwhelmingly and often wilfully undereducated in sciences and humanities outside of their own narrow belief systems, which creates a "perfect storm of Derp".
