If it's tomorrow's newspaper with tonight's winning lottery numbers, I'm okay with that.

Miss Stein: shanrick: When it's not from the past, but from the future.

If it's tomorrow's newspaper with tonight's winning lottery numbers, I'm okay with that.

But what if the paper contains a virus that wiped out humanity in the future?
And now it's wiping out everyone in the present day?
And your lottery win means nothing.
But, if it wipes out everyone in present times, then people in the future won't exist.
So they couldn't have sent that paper back in the first place.
So, I'm sorry, what were you talking about?

Telephone? The church is probably still renting it from AT&T!

Do people still do time capsules? I bet Trump does it. I imagine people 100 years from puzzled by a DVD set of a season of "The Apprentice."

I like how they put newspaper in the time capsule.  They probably didn't think that a hundred years I could read that day's newspaper in my own home from California.

....and then some assclown would post a snippet of it to TFD with an annoyingly baiting headline that sounds like it's from the present.

2013-04-23 11:00:13 PM
A dress and a pair of women's shoes?  WTF?  The crap to cool ratio of that capsule was WAY too low!  Go back and do it again. And this time, don't embarrass yourself!

That was my thought! People didn't own phones then, they leased them. It's probably technically stolen property.

I buried one in the back garden in the house I grew up in 20 years ago. I've drove by the house a few times since we moved and the garden beds remain undisturbed. I hope if its ever.found that I hear about it or get contacted. It's in a 2 litre pop bottle with a hot glued on lid so it should be ok for a few decades underground. Can't remember what I put in the bottle. I was into collecting coins and treasure hunting at the time so probably a few coins minted that year and ?

I can't wait to hear about the new strain of drug-resistant cholera released from a century-old time capsule, after spending a hundred years festering among the other goods contained therein, which causes the next globe-clearing pandemic.

This place is a message... and part of a system of messages... pay attention to it!
Sending this message was important to us. We considered ourselves to be a powerful culture.
This place is not a place of honor...no highly esteemed deed is commemorated here... nothing valued is here.
What is here is dangerous and repulsive to us. This message is a warning about danger.
The danger is in a particular location... it increases toward a center... the center of danger is here... of a particular size and shape, and below us.
The danger is still present, in your time, as it was in ours.
The danger is to the body, and it can kill.
The form of the danger is an emanation of energy.
The danger is unleashed only if you substantially disturb this place physically. This place is best shunned and left uninhabited.

2013-04-23 11:40:04 PM
When there's a body in it.

Well, for some people, anyway. The rest of us just go get some sticks and have a good ol' time.

You don't believe in religion? That's insane. Religion DEFINITELY exists. There's the Bible, right there. That proves it.

The time capsule is still there, and for the former residents who go back to open it it will be the last remnant of what was once a vibrant rural mining town. Depressing.

During a natural disaster such as an earthquake, flood, hurricane or tornado?

5:00 in the morning after only two hours sleep?

While performing brain surgery?

When you just made the capsule and are putting stuff in?

While being eaten by a crocodile? Actually I guess that would be pretty awesome.

I'm not sure what you're getting at.

Are they sure digging is wise? You know, making a hole in the ground in a place where sometimes the only reason there's not a gaping chasm into the fires of hell is because the grass is holding a thin layer of dirt together?
