gopher321: 26 U.S. Navy ship naming controversies. If you are going to name ships after gays, Confederates, Jesus or socialists, someone is going to have a problem with itU.S.S. Christ on a Cracker?U.S.S. Heyzoos?
ArkAngel: No problem without of them. Cesar Chavez probably wouldn't want his name on a Navy ship. Giffords probably didn't deserve one. Using Confederate names was a poor choice
FlashHarry: U.S.S. J. Edgar Hoover
Bill_Wick's_Friend: FlashHarry: U.S.S. J. Edgar HooverBad name for a ship.Too much drag.
Jubeebee: USS Jesus Tapdancing Christ - minesweeper
drjekel_mrhyde: U.S.S Microsoft Big and bloatedU.S.S Google Super spy ship that follows other ships around collecting data to sellU.S.S Apple Cost over runs, not as fast as other ships, outdated tech, but looks hella coolU.S.S Walmart Sold to China within 3 yearsSeriously how soon will they start selling naming rights to corps
another cultural observer: Wouldn't we purchase the U.S.S. Wal-mart FROM China? And it's got lead paint, and was manufactured by massed contingents of child wage slaves, etc?
Strolpol: Given all the whining and moaning in the article over naming issues, the most obvious way forward is that we simply choose names that EVERYONE will hate or otherwise dislike equally: name all new ships after My Little Pony characters./with matching paint jobs//then we'd get Congressional sessions arguing the superiority of one pony versus the other alternatives///you can't tell me it wouldn't be more work than they're getting done now
Snarfangel: another cultural observer: Wouldn't we purchase the U.S.S. Wal-mart FROM China? And it's got lead paint, and was manufactured by massed contingents of child wage slaves, etc?Great jumpin' brain-damaged barnacles, lead paint?
maxx2112: To no one's everlasting glory, there isn't a ship named Rodger Young./ yet
Snarfangel: Come on, the USS Prince of Peace is an awesome name for an aircraft carrier.
