Nina_Hartley's_Ass: When does the impeachment start?

Well, first, the offenses were committed by aides, not the senators themselves.
Second, if the senators are implicated, they would not be "impeached", but rather (possibly) expelled by the Wisconsin senate.
Third, such expulsion is unlikely, given that the GOP are in majority once more.

However, while it seems unlikely they would, this sounds like a level of shenanigans where the Federal DOJ should be stepping in.

Well, then provide a link to the original article that is on madison.com.

State lawmakers in Wisconsin are required to redraw district boundaries for the Legislature and Congress every 10 years based on the latest census figures. Whichever party is in the majority can design districts beneficial to its members so long as voters' rights aren't violated.

A group of legislative Democrats plus Sen. Dale Schultz, R-Richland Center, wants to take redistricting out of the hands of the Legislature and give it to the nonpartisan Legislative Reference Bureau.

Arizona did this in 2000 and all hell broke loose when it was done in 2010. From the GOP. Regardless, Redistricting should be nonpartisan.

The Supreme Court ruled in League of United Latin American Voters v Perry that gerrymandering for political purposes isn't illegal so long protected classes are respected. In other words, drawing districts to benefit the Republican or Democratic parties isn't illegal.

What's interesting is that, in Hunter v Underwood, the Court ruled that laws that on their face do not have a racist intention, but that can be shown to have the effect of disenfranchising racial minorities are illegal. Specifically, an Alabama statute that disenfranchised persons convicted of crimes of "moral turpitude" was illegal, because minorities in Alabama were disproportionately convicted of those crimes.

By that logic, wouldn't redistricting to give a Republican advantage have the effect of disenfranchising racial minorities and women, since those groups statistically tend to vote Democratic?

I guess the fact that they are so stupid as to not know that deleted files can be recovered, even from physically damaged hard drives is kind of telling.

//I wonder if they were still in the recycle bin and the data recovery company charged them accordingly.

Yup.  I was criticizing how some on the right habitually dismiss Kos, despite the fact that they generally link to several sources to back up the facts of the matter.  Sure, they also insert opinions, but it's pretty funny how many completely write off TFA with the lame excuse "it's Kos, therefore lib BS" without bothering to check it out, as if it were 100% un-sourced opinion...like a left-wing WND or something.

I'm done with you, Wisconsin.  You had the chance to take Wall-eyed Walker out and put him on the curb but you didn't so no more.  It's over.  I'm going all Taylor Swift on you at this point.  Finito.  Adios. Goodbye.

KO's covers stories that align with it's base. NRO, WND, etc. cover stories that help them craft the narrative their base believes by not only reporting, but passing off speculation, lies, and wishful thinking blended in with what it being passed off as fact.

FTFY. But of course destroying evidence is okay if you're Republican.

2013-04-23 02:43:01 PM
The fact that they're actually recovering some of these deleted files has potential, but unless a couple of them contain direct photocopied emails from the governor with the words "marginalize urbans and wetbacks" twenty times? I think it's a safe bet that nothing's going to come of this via the legal process, much less any tangible political fallout. I'd be shocked if they did more than arrest a minor aide for two days, if that.

Wisconsin has had an invisible, reality-distorting "sanctioned douchebaggery" zone around it since Scott was elected. Or, maybe just around the government offices. His whole administration has the unprosecutable job security of a cop running a red light and grazing a school bus.

/I know I know, all administrations have this
//but Walker's seems unusually strong
///being Republican alone adds at least a +2 to the distortion field

I'm not sure he's stupid; if he were, he might do a lot less damage and just be rubber stamping what the Fitzgerald brothers sent out of the Legislature instead of proposing things. He did drop out of college, but the rumor in WI is that he dropped out just before he was going to be expelled for cheating, so that goes more to #1 than #2.
