I am still not used to having a man in the Whitehouse who can spell 'science', let alone want to host a
science fair.

Maybe there is hope for this country after all.

I remember when my science fair assignment was something along the lines of "OK class, go come up with something sciencey."  I hope things have generally improved.

The White House science fair is a nifty idea that will only last until the next time we have a Republican in the White House.

Like when Reagan was elected and tore down the solar panels that Carter had installed.  The party is actively hostile to science.

I'm not an Obama fan (as some people here probably know), but I'm all for promoting science.

Not really.  Science fair at my sons school was very boring except for the three experiments that were obviously built by their parents that should have been thrown out, but weren't due to PTA politics.  Hates the PTA, and their rotten crotch fruit.

The scourge of science fairs everywhere.  Well, that, and the kids who get to work in their parents'/family friend's university research lab and whose projects consequently blow everything else out of the water.

Nothing like reminding all the other kids that no matter how hard you try, your dad's a plumber and you don't have access to a PCR machine, so science isn't for you.

Our third-grade science teacher was an attractive young Japanese-American woman who would swear at us under her breath - she had a dislike for children that I have never seen before or since in an educator. Her teaching style was mostly simple neglect, her classes generally a free-for-all. For the science fair, three of the boys decided try making a light bulb from a half-gallon glass milk bottle. They had the bottle, a piece of lamp cord with a plug...I'm not sure what they were trying to use for a filament, possibly just a strand of the lamp wire. Unsupervised in a corner of the classroom, they actually got to the point of plugging it in, with the lucky result of a Pop! "Whoah!" and maybe the lights flickered, but no broken glass.

I guess my question is, which of you farkers were there?

I... never had a science fair, or a science project, when I was in school.

...ever.

I feel like I missed out.
