I can appreciate that some work went into them and good for whoever did it.. but most of those arent even really that good let alone great. theres a spectrum going from hollywood cliche schlock poster to hipster high concept trash, and most of these swing too far past center into the latter's territory.

I liked the...second one I think it was. (Looked once, not going back because...meh.) But the rest were mediocre at best and trite at worst. "Even Heroes Can Be Broken?"

C'mon! Have Jon Favreau crap out a poster for you and be done with it.

Well put.

The minimalist (if you can call these as such) poster look is cool but it doesn't appeal to a mass audience. It's more just for people already fans of a work who like seeing things that are a little harder to understand for those who aren't initiated. Elitist postering.

Yeah, not so much subby... but on the other hand, I am not so sure the Red, White and Blue suit works in this situation.

The official poster I saw had lots of people looking back over their shoulder so anything's better than that.

As movie posters I would say that those don't hold up. As art/fan art, sure, some of those are pretty neat. 6 reminds me of a zombie movie + Iron Man mashup, while 7 looks like it would be a great comic cover.

As far as being an "official" movie poster this works just fine.

Comic book movies don't need avant garde or high concept movie posters.

LDM90: The official poster I saw had lots of people looking back over their shoulder so anything's better than that.

I haven't seen that in any of the "official" posters.  There is one perspective shot of Tony looking over his shoulder with all the variants of his suit in the background like he is choosing which one to wear for the evening.

The funny thing about the article, all of those shots focus on the suit (with the exception of the one that
was ripped off from an official poster)...  While the official posters go out of the way to show the characters in the film with the armor itself almost being a secondary point to the plot.

None of those are better than the real poster.  Captain America had a great fan poster but these ones for Iron Man are pretty bad.

Good thing they didn't call him Man of Iron back when the comic premiered, or the proximity to Man of Steel's release would be a bit awkward.

The amount of effort that went into these posters is nice but none of them really work as a good movie poster. None of them really convey what the movie would be about and some just look stupid.

The official movie poster I can tell exactly what the movie is about or at least a hint. Someone wants to hurt Iron Man and has destroyed his entire world/home. But he's getting back up and ready for vengeance.

Oh, look. More fanwank.  It's a heavy fanwank day, apparently.

If these didn't come from Marvel Studios, then they're just fan art, and I'm really getting sick of fan art. I like that people are artistic, but I loathe that the Internet is chock full of these artistic people wasting their talents on  other people's creations instead of their own. Fanfic, slashfic, mock trailers, mock posters, etc.

It's everywhere, and it's essentially  nerd karaoke.

/Instead of 'covering' other people's art,  make your own.

would also be acceptable.

Except the comic cover is also fan art. It's not a real cover from the 60's.

Woah! Meta. Next you're gonna tell me Iron Man is not a real superhero, but a fanfic of Batman! And then that Batman doesnt really exist, and is just fan art of Sherlock Holmes!

/gets your point, though. Damn internet is full of people making shiat up, its hard to know whats real at all. YouTube is full of "official trailers!!!" of things like Back to the Future part IV. Who makes these things and for what purpose?

The actual posters are pretty good already. Incidentally, a new official poster (and the same artists unused designs) were recently released. The new official one:
